⁷ And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom:

⁶ Then the king referred the matter to the elders, who stood before Solomon his father while he was yet living, saying, How do you advise that I should answer this people? ⁷ And they spoke to him, saying, If you will this day be a servant to this people, and serve them, and speak to them good words, then will they be your servants continually. ⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they gave him, and consulted with the young men who were brought up with him, who stood in his presence.

⁸ For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers: ⁹ (for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:) ¹⁰ shall not these teach you, and report to you, and bring out words from their heart?

¹² In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge.

¹¹ Come, you children, hear me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. ¹² What man is there that desires life, loving to see good days?

¹ The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel: ² to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding; ³ to receive also hard sayings, and to understand true justice, and how to direct judgment; ⁴ that he might give prudence to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.

³¹ Old age is a crown of honor, but it is found in the ways of righteousness.

¹² For indeed, although you ought to be teachers by this time, again you have need for someone to teach you what are the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
