¹ And Job answered and said, ² So then you alone are men, and wisdom shall die with you? ³ But I also have a heart as well as you. ⁴ For a righteous and blameless man has become a subject for mockery. ⁵ For it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his houses should be spoiled by transgressors: let not however anyone trust that, being evil, he shall be held guiltless, ⁶ even as many as provoke the Lord, as if there were indeed to be no inquisition made of them. ⁷ But ask now the beasts, if they may speak to you, and the birds of the air, if they may declare to you. ⁸ Tell the earth, if it may speak to you, and the fish of the sea shall explain to you. ⁹ Who then has not known in all these things, that the hand of the Lord has made them? ¹⁰ Seeing that the life of all living things is in His hand, and the breath of every man. ¹¹ For the ear tries words, and the palate tastes meats. ¹² In length of time is wisdom, and in long life knowledge. ¹³ With Him are wisdom and power, with Him counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ If He should cast down, who will build up? If He should shut up against man, who shall open? ¹⁵ If He should withhold the water, He will dry the earth: and if He should let it loose, He overthrows and destroys it. ¹⁶ With Him are strength and power: He has knowledge and understanding. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away captive, and maddens the judges of the earth. ¹⁸ He seats kings upon thrones, and binds their waist with a belt. ¹⁹ He sends away priests into captivity, and overthrows the mighty ones of the earth. ²⁰ He changes the lips of the trusty, and He knows the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours dishonor upon princes, and heals the lowly. ²² Revealing deep things out of darkness: and He has brought into light the shadow of death. ²³ Causing the nations to wander, and destroying them: overthrowing the nations, and leading them away. ²⁴ Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth, and He causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, saying, ²⁵ Let them grope in darkness, and let there be no light, and let them wander as a drunken man.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will be silent: if in anything I have erred, tell me. ²⁵ But as it seems, the words of a true man are vain, because I do not ask strength of you.

⁸ For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers: ⁹ (for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:) ¹⁰ shall not these teach you, and report to you, and bring out words from their heart?

² He that speaks much, should also hear on the other side: or does the fluent speaker think himself to be righteous? Blessed is the short-lived offspring of woman.

⁶ Then shall He declare to you the power of wisdom, for it shall be double of that which is with you; and then shall you know, that a just recompense of your sins has come to you from the Lord.

¹² But man vainly buoys himself up with words, and a mortal born of woman is like a donkey in the desert.

² Will a wise man give for answer a mere breath of wisdom? And does he fill up the pain of his belly,

⁴ For You have hid their heart from wisdom, therefore You shall not exalt them.

¹⁰ How do you all strengthen yourselves and come now, for I do not find truth in you.

³ I will hear my shameful reproach, and the spirit of my understanding answers me.

⁷ And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom: ⁸ but there is a spirit in mortals, and the inspiration of the Almighty is that which teaches. ⁹ The long-lived are not wise as such, neither do the aged know judgment. ¹⁰ Wherefore I said, Hear me, and I will tell you what I know. ¹¹ Give ear to my words; for I will speak in your hearing, until you have tried the matter with words: ¹² I have paid close attention to you; and behold, not one of you convinced Job, or answered his words — ¹³ lest you should say, We have found that we have added wisdom to the Lord.

¹¹ A rich man is wise in his own conceit, but an intelligent poor man will condemn him.

²¹ Woe to them that are wise in their own conceit, and knowing in their own sight.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are despised!

⁵ I say this to your shame. So is there not among you a wise man, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brother and another? ⁶ Shall bread be eaten without salt? Or again, is there taste in empty words? ⁷ For my wrath cannot cease, for I perceive my food as the smell of a lion to be loathsome.

² And I know all that you know, too; and I have no less understanding than you. ³ Nevertheless I will speak to the Lord, and I will reason before Him, if He will. ⁴ But you are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases. ⁵ Oh that you would be silent, and it would be wisdom to you in the end.

² To whom do you attach yourself, or who are you going to assist? Is it not He that has much strength, and He who has a strong arm? ³ To whom have you given counsel? Is it not to Him who has all wisdom? Who will you follow? Is it not the One who has the greatest power? ⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you become like him.

⁵ For I consider myself in nothing to have been inferior to the most super apostles.

²¹ To our shame, I say that we were too weak for that! But in whatever anyone is bold (I speak foolishly) I am bold also. ²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I. ²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am even more: in labors far more, in beatings immeasurably, in imprisonments far more, in deaths often.

²⁹ Sit down now, and let there not be unrighteousness, and unite again with the just.

³ Be not a speaker of many words, for is there none to answer you?

^{10 (16:11)} He has attacked me with the keen glances of His eyes; with His sharp spear He has struck me down upon my knees, and they have run upon me with one accord.

² Weary I intreat; and what have I done? And strangers have stolen my goods.

⁶ But You have made me a byword among the nations, and I have become a scorn to them.

³ Raise me, and I will speak; then you shall not laugh me to scorn.

¹ But now the youngest have laughed me to scorn; now they reprove me in their turn, whose fathers I set at nought; whom I did not deem worthy to be with my shepherd dogs.

⁷ All that saw Me mocked Me; they spoke with their lips, they shook the head, saying, ⁸ He hoped in the Lord; let Him deliver Him, let Him save Him, because He takes pleasure in Him.

¹⁶ They tempted me, they sneered at me most contemptuously, they gnashed their teeth upon me.

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will hearken to him; I am with him in affliction; and I will deliver him, and glorify him.

² He that walks uprightly fears the Lord, but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonored.

³ Cry out to Me, and I will answer you, and I will declare to you great and mighty things, which you know not.

⁷ But I will look to the Lord; I will wait upon God my Savior: my God will hearken to me.

²⁹ When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

⁴⁰ And they were ridiculing Him. But after He sent out all present, He took along the father and the mother of the child, and those with Him, and He went in where the child was lying.

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and they were mocking Him.

³² But when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some were scoffing, but others said, "We will hear you again concerning this."

³⁶ Still others took a trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and of prison.

³⁵ In the day of vengeance I will recompense, whenever their foot shall be tripped up; for the day of their destruction is near to them, and the judgments at hand are close upon you.

⁵ What then? Will the wild donkey bray for nothing, if he is not seeking food? Or again, will the ox low at the manger, when he has his fodder?

⁴ I also will speak as you do — if indeed your soul were in my soul's place, ^(16:5) then would I insult you with words, and I would shake my head at you!

⁵ But the light of the ungodly shall be quenched, and their flame shall not go up.

⁵ Direct my steps in Your paths, that my steps slip not.

¹⁸ If I said, My foot has been moved;

³ Have pity upon us, O Lord, have pity upon us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Yea, our soul has been exceedingly filled with it: let the reproach be to them that are at ease, and contempt to the proud.

⁹ The righteous always have light, but the light of the ungodly is quenched. ^(13:9A) Crafty souls go astray in sins, but just men have pity, and are merciful.

²⁰ The lamp of him that reviles father or mother shall be put out, and his eyes shall see darkness.

¹⁶ Give glory to the Lord your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and you shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.

¹ Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and that trust in the mountain of Samaria; they have gathered the harvest of the heads of the nations, and they have gone in themselves. ² O house of Israel, pass by all of you, and see; and pass by from there to Hamath; and from there descend to Gath of the Philistines, the chief of all these kingdoms, see if their coasts are greater than your coasts. ³ You who are approaching the evil day, who are drawing near and adopting false sabbaths; ⁴ who sleep upon beds of ivory, and live delicately on their couches, and eat kids out of the flocks, and calves out of the midst of the stalls; ⁵ who excel in the sound of musical instruments; they have regarded them as abiding, not as fleeting pleasures; ⁶ who drink strained wine, and anoint themselves with the best ointment, and have suffered nothing on occasion of the calamity of Joseph.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." '

¹⁹ "Now there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself splendidly every day. ²⁰ But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate,

²⁴ For they are delivered into the hands of the unrighteous man: He covers the faces of the judges of the earth: but if it is not He, who else could it be?

⁷ Why do the ungodly live, and grow old even in wealth? ⁸ Their seed is according to their desire, and their children are in their sight. ⁹ Their houses are prosperous, and safe from fear, neither is the rod of the Lord upon them. ¹⁰ Their cow does not cast her calf, and their beast with young is safe, and does not miscarriage. ¹¹ And they remain as an unfailing flock, and their children play before them, taking up the psaltery and harp; ¹² and they rejoice at the voice of a song. ¹³ And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave. ¹⁴ Yet such a man says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know Your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Mighty One, that we should serve Him? And what profit is there that we should approach Him?

¹⁸ Yet He filled their houses with good things, but the counsel for the wicked is far from Him.

¹⁴ because of the enemies of Your hand. O Lord, destroy them from the earth; scatter them in their life, though their belly has been filled with Your hidden treasures; they have been satisfied with uncleanness, and have left the remnant of their possessions to their babes.

¹ A Psalm of David. Do not fret because of evildoers, neither be envious of them that do iniquity.

³⁵ I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Lebanon.

¹¹ And they said, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High? ¹² Behold, these are the sinners, and they that prosper always; they have possessed wealth.

²⁷ As a snare which has been set is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore have they grown great, and become rich.

²⁹ Ask those that go by the way, and do not disown their tokens. ³⁰ For the wicked hastens to the day of destruction: they shall be led away for the day of His vengeance.

⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard; and see, and emulate his ways, and become wiser than he.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel does not know Me, and the people have not regarded Me.

⁷ Even the stork in the heaven knows her time, also the turtledove and wild swallow; the sparrows observe the times of their coming in; but this My people knows not the judgments of the Lord.

¹⁷ Lest you should say in your heart, My strength, and the power of my own hand have worked for me this great wealth! ¹⁸ But you shall remember the Lord your God, that He gives you strength to get wealth; even that He may establish His covenant, which the Lord swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ The Lord makes poor, and makes rich; He brings low, and lifts up.

³ But I also have a heart as well as you.

²⁰ that they may see, and know, and perceive, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done these works, and the Holy One of Israel has displayed them.

⁵ I have made the earth by My great power, and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to whomsoever it shall seem good in My eyes. ⁶ I have given the earth to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to serve him, and the wild beasts of the field to labor for him.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave to your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, and majesty, and honor, and glory.

¹⁷ And now, O lord our God, hearken to the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and cause Your face to shine on Your desolate sanctuary, for Your name's sake, O Lord.

³⁵ And having quieted the crowd, the city clerk said: "Men of Ephesus, for what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image fallen from heaven?

³⁶ For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be the glory forever! Amen.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those that love Him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into court? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme the noble name by which you are called?

⁷ And God formed the man of the dust of the earth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

^{17 (6:18)} And behold, I shall bring a flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven, and whatsoever things are upon the earth shall die.

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, the God of spirits and of all flesh, if one man has sinned, shall the wrath of the Lord be upon the whole congregation?

³ verily, while my breath is yet in me, and the breath of God which remains to me is in my nostrils,

⁴ The Divine Spirit is that which formed me, and the breath of the Almighty is that which teaches me.

¹⁴ For if He would confine, and restrain His Spirit with Himself; ¹⁵ all flesh would die together, and every mortal would return to the earth, from where he was formed.

²⁹ But when You have turned away Your face, they shall be troubled; You will take away their breath, and they shall fail, and return to their dust.

³ Trust not in princes, nor in the children of men, in whom there is no safety. ⁴ His breath shall go forth, and he shall return to his earth; in that day all his thoughts shall perish.

²³ And you have exalted yourself against the Lord God of heaven; and they have brought before you the vessels of His house, and you, your nobles, your mistresses, and your concubines have drunk wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, and which hear not, and know not: and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

²⁵ nor by the hands of men is He served, as though He needed anything, for He gives to all life, and breath, with respect to all things.

²⁸ for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

³⁰ For there is no injustice in my tongue; and does not my throat meditate understanding?

³ For the ear tries words, and the mouth tastes meat.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.

¹⁰ that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, for those because of their practice have their senses trained for the distinguishing of both good and evil.

³ if indeed you tasted that the Lord is good.

⁸ For ask of the former generation, and search diligently among the race of our fathers:

¹⁰ Truly among us are both the old and very aged man, more advanced in days than your father.

⁷ And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom:

⁴ For He is wise in mind, and mighty, and great: who has hardened himself against Him and endured?

¹⁶ With Him are strength and power: He has knowledge and understanding.

²⁰ Where then is wisdom found? And of what kind is the place of understanding? ²¹ It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it. ²³ God has well ordered the way of it, and He knows the place of it. ²⁴ For He surveys the whole earth under heaven, knowing the things in the earth; ²⁵ all that He has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water. ²⁶ When He made them, thus He saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder. ²⁷ Then He saw it, and declared it: He prepared it, and traced it out. ²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

⁶ And Elihu the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, I am younger in age, and you are older, therefore I kept silent, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge. ⁷ And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom: ⁸ but there is a spirit in mortals, and the inspiration of the Almighty is that which teaches. ⁹ The long-lived are not wise as such, neither do the aged know judgment.

⁵ But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,

³⁶ And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?

⁵ Great is our Lord, and great is His strength; and His understanding is infinite.

⁶ For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His presence come knowledge and understanding, ⁷ and He treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: He will protect their way;

¹⁴ Counsel and safety are mine; prudence is mine, and strength is mine.

¹³ Who has known the mind of the Lord? And who has been His counselor, to instruct Him? ¹⁴ Or with whom has He taken counsel, and he has instructed Him? Or who has taught Him judgment, or who has taught Him the way of understanding;

¹⁰ declaring beforehand the latter events before they come to pass, and they are accomplished together; and I said, all My counsel shall stand, and I will do all things that I have planned;

¹² It is the Lord that made the earth by His strength, who set up the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding stretched out the sky,

²⁰ May the name of God be blessed from everlasting to everlasting; for wisdom and understanding are His.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict nor to withstand.

³⁴ "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has been His counselor?"

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

⁸ which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and insight,

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

³ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it shall be given to him.

⁴⁶ And the Lord shall deliver you this day into my hand, and I will kill you, and take away your head from off of you, and I will give your limbs and the limbs of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God in Israel.

^{18 (24:19)} And you have told me today what good you have done me, how the Lord shut me up into your hands today, and you did not kill me.

⁸ And Abishai said to David, The Lord has delivered your enemy into your hands this day, and now I will strike him to the earth with this spear, once for all, and I will not have to strike him again.

¹² If He would take away, who shall turn Him back? Or who shall say to Him, What have You done? ¹³ For if He has turned away His anger, the whales under heaven have stooped under Him.

¹⁰ And if He should overthrow all things, who will say to Him, What have You done?

^{11 (16:12)} For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of unrighteous men, and thrown me upon the ungodly.

¹⁰ He has torn me round about, and I am gone, and He has cut off my hope like a tree.

⁷ He seals up the hand of every man, that every man may know his own weakness.

²³ And I will make the region of Babylon a desert, so that hedgehogs shall dwell there, and it shall come to nothing; and I will make it a pit of clay for destruction.

²² And I will give him the glory of David; and he shall rule, and there shall be none to speak against him; and I will give him the key of the house of David upon his shoulder. And he shall open, and there shall be none to shut; and he shall shut, and there shall be none to open.

² For You have made cities a heap, even cities made strong that their foundations should not fall; the city of ungodly men shall not be built forever.

⁵⁸ Thus says the Lord: The wall of Babylon was made broad, but it shall be completely broken down, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall not labor in vain, nor the nations fail in their rule.

⁶⁴ and shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and not rise, because of the evils which I bring upon it.

⁴ Because one will say, Edom has been overthrown, but let us return and rebuild the desolate places; thus says the Lord Almighty, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The borders of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord has set Himself forever.

³² For God has shut up all to disobedience, that He might show mercy to all.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says the Holy One, the True One, " He who has the key of David, He that opens and no man shuts, except He that opens, and no man shall open."

^{13 (6:14)} And the Lord God said to Noah, The end of all flesh has come before Me; because the earth has been filled with iniquity by them, and behold, I shall destroy them and the earth.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of the life of Noah, in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, on this day all the fountains of the abyss were broken up, and the flood gates of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ and the Lord be angry with you, and restrain the heavens; and there shall not be rain, and the earth shall not yield its fruit, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land, which the Lord has given you.

³⁵ When the heavens are restrained, and there is no rain, because they shall sin against You, and they shall pray toward this place, and they shall make confession to Your name, and shall turn from their sins when You shall have humbled them, ³⁶ then You shall hear from heaven, and be merciful to the sins of Your servant and of Your people Israel; for You shall show them the good way to walk in it, and You shall give rain upon the earth which You have given to Your people for an inheritance.

¹ And Elijah the prophet, the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be these years dew nor rain, except by the word of my mouth.

¹⁰ Seeing that the life of all living things is in His hand, and the breath of every man.

⁷ At Your rebuke they shall flee; at the voice of Your thunder they shall be alarmed. ⁸ They go up to the mountains, and down to the plains, to the place which You founded for them. ⁹ You have set a boundary which they shall not pass, neither shall they turn again to cover the earth.

²² Is there anyone among the idols of the Gentiles that can give rain? And will the sky yield His fullness at their bidding? Are not You He? We will even wait on You, O Lord, for You have made all these things.

⁸ who makes all things, and changes them, and turns darkness into the morning, and darkens the day into night; who calls for the water of the sea, and pours it out on the face of the earth: the Lord is His name;

⁴ He threatens the sea, and dries it up, and exhausts all the rivers: the land of Bashan and Carmel are brought low, and the flourishing trees of Lebanon have come to nought.

²⁵ But I tell you truly, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine all over the land;

¹⁷ Elijah was a man of similar nature to us, and with a prayer, he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

⁶ These men have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls during the days of their prophecy; and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.

²² And the Lord said to him, In what way? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall deceive him; yea, and you shall prevail: go forth, and do so. ²³ And now, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against you.

¹³ With Him are wisdom and power, with Him counsel and understanding.

⁷ Do you not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before Him?

⁹ For it were well if He would thoroughly search you: for though doing all things in your power you should attach yourselves to Him,

⁹ And if a prophet should cause to err and should speak, I the Lord have caused that prophet to err, and I will stretch out My hand upon him, and will utterly destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

³¹ And it was reported to David, saying, Ahithophel also is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Lord my God, disconcert, I pray, the counsel of Ahithophel.

¹⁴ And Absalom, and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the Lord has purposed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, that the Lord might bring all evil upon Absalom.

²³ And Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, and he saddled his donkey, and rose and departed to his house into his city; and he gave orders to his household, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

¹⁴ with kings and counselors of the earth, who gloried in their swords;

¹² Where are your wise men now? And let them declare to you, and say, What has the Lord of hosts purposed upon Egypt? ¹³ The princes of Tanis have failed, and the princes of Memphis are lifted up with pride, and they shall cause Egypt to wander by tribes. ¹⁴ For the Lord has prepared for them a spirit of error, and they have caused Egypt to err in all their works, as one staggers who is drunken and vomits also.

¹⁴ Therefore behold, I will proceed to remove this people, and I will remove them; and I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will hide the understanding of the prudent.

¹⁹ For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the prudent I will annul." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

¹¹ And the Lord brought upon them the captains of the armies of the king of Assyria, and they took Manasseh in bonds, and bound him in fetters, and brought him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was afflicted, he sought the face of the Lord his God, and was greatly humbled before the face of the God of his fathers; ¹³ and he prayed to Him. And He hearkened to him, and listened to his cry, and brought him back to Jerusalem to his kingdom. And Manasseh knew that the Lord, He is God. ¹⁴ And afterward he built a wall outside the City of David, from the southwest southward in the valleys and at the entrance through the Fish Gate, as men go out by the gate round about, even as far as Ophel. And he raised it much, and set captains of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.

¹⁶ O Lord, I am Your servant; I am Your servant, and the son of Your handmaid; You have burst my bonds.

³¹ And it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year after that Jehoiakim king of Judah had been carried away captive, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fourth day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year in which he began to reign, raised the head of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and shaved him, and brought him out of the house where he was kept, ³² and spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the kings that were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments. And he ate bread continually before him all the days that he lived. ³⁴ And his appointed portion was given him continually by the king of Babylon from day to day, until the day that he died.

²¹ And He changes times and seasons; He appoints kings, and removes them, giving wisdom to the wise, and prudence to them that have understanding.

¹⁶ And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name having been written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

²⁴ And when they brought them out to Joshua, then Joshua called together all Israel, and the chiefs of the army that went with him, saying to them, Come forward and set your feet on their necks; and they came and set their feet on their necks.

⁴² And Joshua struck, once for all, all their kings, and their land, because the Lord God of Israel fought on the side of Israel.

⁴⁵ And David said to the Philistine, You come to me with sword, and with spear, and with shield; but I come to you in the name of the Lord God of hosts, of the army of Israel, which you have defied this day. ⁴⁶ And the Lord shall deliver you this day into my hand, and I will kill you, and take away your head from off of you, and I will give your limbs and the limbs of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God in Israel.

²² And in wrath he has overthrown the helpless; therefore when he has arisen, a man will not feel secure of his own life.

²⁸ so as to bring before Him the cry of the needy; for He will hear the cry of the poor.

⁹ They that are oppressed of a multitude will be ready to cry out; they will call for help because of the arm of many.

³⁶ And the angel of the Lord went forth, and killed out of the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand; and they arose in the morning and found all these bodies dead. ³⁷ And Sennacherib king of the Assyrians turned and departed, and dwelt in Nineveh. ³⁸ And while he was worshipping Nisroch his country's god in the house, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with swords; and they escaped into Armenia; and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

¹ Thus says the Lord God to My anointed Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, that nations might be obedient before him; and I will break through the strength of kings; I will open doors before him, and cities shall not be closed.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, and elect, and faithful."

¹⁹ And I saw the Beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, having been gathered together to make war against Him who rode on the horse and against His army. ²⁰ Then the Beast was apprehended, and with him the False Prophet who had performed the signs before him, by which he had deceived those who received the mark of the Beast and those who worshipped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were slain with the sword which proceeds from the mouth of Him who rode on the horse. And all the birds gorged themselves with their flesh.

²⁴ Perplexing the minds of the princes of the earth, and He causes them to wander in a way, they have not known, saying,

⁹ The long-lived are not wise as such, neither do the aged know judgment.

¹⁷ For God has withheld wisdom from her, and not given her a portion in understanding.

²¹ The lips of the righteous know sublime truths, but the foolish die in want.

¹⁹ True lips establish testimony, but a hasty witness has an unjust tongue.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but he that deals faithfully is accepted by Him.

¹ Behold now, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the mighty man and mighty woman, the strength of bread, and the strength of water, ² the great and mighty man, the warrior and the judge, the prophet, the counselor, and the elder, ³ the captain of fifty also, and the honorable counselor, and the wise artificer, and the intelligent hearer.

² And if you will not send them forth, behold, I afflict all your borders with frogs.

²⁴ And they left it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them; and it did not stink, neither was there a worm in it.

²³ And the Lord spoke of Jezebel, saying, The dogs shall devour her within the walls of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that is dead of Ahab in the city shall the dogs eat, and him that dies in the field of Ahab shall the birds of the sky eat.

²⁶ Surely, I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, says the Lord; and I will recompense him on this property, says the Lord. Now then, I pray, take him up and cast him into the plot of ground, according to the word of the Lord.

³⁴ And Jehu went in and ate and drank, and said, Look after this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her; but they found no more of her but the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. ³⁶ And they returned and told him. And he said, It is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by the hand of Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel. ³⁷ And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

⁴⁰ Contempt is poured upon their princes, and He causes them to wander in a desert, and in a trackless land.

²⁷ They shall not hunger nor be weary, neither shall they slumber nor sleep; neither shall they loose their sashes from their loins, neither shall their sandal straps be broken.

⁵ And He shall have His loins girded with righteousness, and His sides clothed with truth.

²¹ and I will put on him your robe, and I will grant him your crown with power, and I will give your stewardship into his hands; and he shall be as a father to them that dwell in Jerusalem, and to them that dwell in Judah.

⁹ The Lord of hosts has purposed to bring down all the pride of the glorious ones, and to disgrace every glorious thing on the earth.

²¹ And God shall bring His hand upon the host of heaven, and upon the kings of the earth. ²² And they shall gather the multitude thereof into prisons, and they shall shut them into a stronghold; after many generations they shall be visited.

And seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and He shall give it to whomever He chooses. ³³ In the same hour the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven forth from men, and he ate grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hair had grown like the hair of a lion, and his nails as birds' claws.

¹² And having been divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they withdrew into their own country by another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, and take along the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to seek the young Child to destroy Him."

²³ Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And becoming eaten by worms, he died.

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

¹² And one of his servants said, None, my Lord, O king, but Elisha the prophet that is in Israel reports to the king of Israel all the words that you speak in your bedroom.

⁵ But let darkness and the shadow of death seize it; let blackness come upon it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them all as the shadow of death, for each will be conscious of the terror of the shadow of death.

²⁰ Where then is wisdom found? And of what kind is the place of understanding? ²¹ It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky. ²² Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it. ²³ God has well ordered the way of it, and He knows the place of it.

²² Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.

²¹ for He knows the secrets of the heart.

¹² For darkness will not be darkness with You; but night will be light as day. As its darkness, so shall its light be to You.

²² He reveals deep and secret things; knowing what is in darkness, and the light is with Him.

²⁶ Therefore do not fear them. For nothing is concealed that shall not be unveiled, and secret that shall not be made known.

⁷⁹ to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

⁵ So then judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who also will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make clear the purposes of the hearts. Then each one's praise shall come from God.

⁷ And the children of Israel increased and multiplied, and became numerous and grew exceedingly strong, and the land multiplied them.

²⁰ And God did well to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very strong.

³⁸ And He blesses them, and they multiply exceedingly, and He diminishes not the number of their cattle.

³ The multitude of the people which you have brought down in your joy, they shall even rejoice before you as they that rejoice in harvest, and as they that divide the spoil.

¹⁵ bring more evils on the glorious ones of the earth.

⁶ they that are coming are the children of Jacob. Israel shall bud and blossom, and the world shall be filled with his fruit.

² Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for he was alone when I called him, and blessed him, and loved him, and multiplied him.

²² The little one shall become thousands, and the least a great nation; I the Lord will gather them in due time.

¹⁹ And there shall go forth from them singers, even the sound of men making merry, and I will multiply them, and they shall by no means be diminished.

⁸ I will make a sign to them, and gather them in; for I will redeem them, and they shall be multiplied according to their number before.

²⁰ He changes the lips of the trusty, and He knows the understanding of the elders.

⁴ They wandered in the wilderness in a dry land; they found no way to a city of habitation.

⁹ You shall hear indeed, but you shall not understand; and you shall see indeed, but you shall not perceive. ¹⁰ For the heart of this people has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹ The vision of Egypt. Behold, the Lord sits on a swift cloud, and shall come to Egypt. And the idols of Egypt shall be moved at His presence, and their hearts shall faint within them.

¹⁶ His heart shall be changed from that of a man, and the heart of a wild beast shall be given to him; and seven times shall pass over him.

³³ In the same hour the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven forth from men, and he ate grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hair had grown like the hair of a lion, and his nails as birds' claws.

¹¹ And Ephraim was as a silly dove, not having a heart: he called to Egypt, and they went to the Assyrians.

¹¹ And they struck the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, and they were wearied with seeking the door.

²⁹ And you shall grope at midday, as a blind man gropes in the darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways; and then you shall be unjustly treated, and plundered continually, and there shall be no helper.

¹⁴ In the day darkness shall come upon them, and let them grope in the noonday even as in the night.

²⁷ They are troubled, they stagger as a drunkard, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

¹⁴ For the Lord has prepared for them a spirit of error, and they have caused Egypt to err in all their works, as one staggers who is drunken and vomits also.

²⁰ It reels as a drunkard and one oppressed with wine, and the earth shall be shaken as a storehouse of fruits; for iniquity has prevailed upon it, and it shall fall, and shall not be able to rise.

¹⁰ They shall feel for the wall as blind men, and shall feel for it as if they had no eyes; and they shall feel at noonday as at midnight; they shall groan as dying men.

¹¹ And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season." And immediately a mistiness and darkness fell upon him, and going about, he sought someone to lead him by the hand.

¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
