¹ Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon Him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul. ² And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and wherefore have You thus judged me? ³ Is it good before You if I am unrighteous? For You have disowned the work of Your hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly. ⁴ Or do You see as a mortal sees? Or will You look as a man sees? ⁵ Or is Your life human, or Your years the years of a man, ⁶ that You have inquired into my iniquity, and searched out my sins? ⁷ For You know that I have not committed iniquity, but who is he that can deliver out of Your hands? ⁸ Your hands have formed me and made me; afterwards You changed Your mind, and struck me. ⁹ Remember that You have made me as clay, and You turn me again into dust. ¹⁰ Have You not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese? ¹¹ And You clothed me with skin and flesh, and framed me with bones and sinews. ¹² And You bestowed upon me life and mercy, and Your oversight has preserved my spirit. ¹³ Having these things in Yourself, I know that You can do all things; for nothing is impossible for You. ¹⁴ And if I should sin, You watch me, and You have not cleared me from iniquity. ¹⁵ Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonor. ¹⁶ For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again You have changed and are terribly destroying me; ¹⁷ renewing against me my torture: and You have dealt with me in great anger, and You have brought trials upon me. ¹⁸ Why then did You bring me out of the womb? And why did I not die, and no eye see me, ¹⁹ and I become as if I had not been? For why was I not carried from the womb to the grave? ²⁰ Is not the time of my life short? Allow me to rest a little, ²¹ before I go to where I shall not return, to a land of darkness and gloominess; ²² to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither can anyone see the life of mortals.

¹⁵ And if You do thus to me, slay me utterly, if I have found favor with You, that I may not see my affliction.

⁴ And he himself went a day's journey in the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree; and asked concerning his life that he might die, and said, Let it be enough now, O Lord, take my life from me, I pray, for I am no better than my fathers.

²⁰ For why is light given to those who are in bitterness, and life to those souls which are in grief? ²¹ Who desire death, and obtain it not, digging for it as for treasures; ²² and would be very joyful if they should gain it? ²³ Death is rest to such a man, for God has hedged him in.

¹⁵ And let them perish in war, and let the weak escape from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ And let the weak have hope, but the mouth of the unjust be stopped.

²⁰ In famine He shall deliver you from death, and in war He shall free you from the power of the sword.

² Oh that one would indeed weigh the wrath that is upon me, and take up my grief in a balance together! ³ And surely they would be heavier than the sand by the seashore: but, as it seems, my words are vain. ⁴ For the arrows of the Lord are in my body, whose violence drinks up my blood: whenever I am going to speak, they pierce me.

⁸ Oh, that He would grant my desire, and my petition might come, and the Lord would grant my hope! ⁹ Let the Lord begin to wound me, but let Him not utterly destroy me.

²⁶ Neither will your reproof cause me to cease my words, for neither will I endure the sound of your speech.

¹¹ Then neither will I refrain my mouth; I will speak being in distress; being in anguish I will disclose the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁶ For I shall not live forever, that I should patiently endure: depart from me, for my life is vain.

²¹ For even if I have sinned, I know it not in my soul: but my life is taken away.

¹⁵ Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonor. ¹⁶ For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again You have changed and are terribly destroying me;

¹³ Oh that You had kept me in the grave, and had hidden me until Your wrath should cease, and You should set me a time in which You would remember me!

^{6 (16:7)} For if I should speak, I shall not feel the pain of my wound, and if I should be silent, how shall I be wounded any less? ^{7 (16:8)} But now He has made me weary, and a worn out fool, and He has laid hold of me. ^{8 (16:9)} My falsehood has become a testimony, and has risen up against me: it has confronted me to my face. ^{9 (16:10)} In His anger He has cast me down; He has gnashed His teeth upon me: the weapons of His robbers have fallen upon me. ^{10 (16:11)} He has attacked me with the keen glances of His eyes; with His sharp spear He has struck me down upon my knees, and they have run upon me with one accord. ^{11 (16:12)} For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of unrighteous men, and thrown me upon the ungodly. ^{12 (16:13)} When I was at peace He distracted me: He took me by the hair of the head, and plucked it out: He set me up as a mark. ^{13 (16:14)} They surrounded me with spears, aiming at my reins: without sparing me they poured out my gall upon the ground. ^{14 (16:15)} They overthrew me with fall upon fall: they ran upon me in their might. ^{15 (16:16)} They sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and my strength has been spent on the ground. ^{16 (16:17)} My belly has been parched with wailing, and darkness is on my eyelids.

⁴ Surely I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) ^(19:4A) in having spoken words which it was not right to speak; and my words err, and are unreasonable.

² Listen, listen to my words, that I may not have this consolation from you. ³ Raise me, and I will speak; then you shall not laugh me to scorn. ⁴ What! Is my reproof from man? And why should I not be angry?

³ Because I kept silence, my bones waxed old, from my crying all the day. ⁴ For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; I became thoroughly miserable while a thorn was fastened in me. Pause. ⁵ I acknowledged my sin, and hid not my iniquity; I said, I will confess my iniquity to the Lord; and You forgave the ungodliness of my heart. Pause.

¹⁵ and removed the sorrow of my soul.

¹⁷ For You have chosen my soul, that it should not perish; and You have cast all my sins behind me.

³ And now, Lord God, take my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

⁸ And it came to pass at the rising of the sun, that God commanded a burning east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, and he fainted, and despaired of his life, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

⁵ But you be early in prayer to the Lord Almighty. ⁶ If you are pure and true, He will listen to your supplication, and will restore to you the habitation of righteousness.

²⁹ But since I am ungodly, why have I not died?

³¹ For there is one that says to the Mighty One, I have received blessings; I will not take a pledge: ³² I will see apart from myself — show me if I have done unrighteousness; I will not do so anymore.

² And enter not into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight shall no man living be justified.

⁴⁰ ( { π}) NUN. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our hearts with our hand to the lofty One in heaven. ⁴² We have sinned, we have transgressed; and You have not pardoned.

¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head: yea, woe to us! For we have sinned. ¹⁷ For this has grief come; our heart is sorrowful: for this our eyes are darkened.

¹ There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

³¹ For if we judge ourselves correctly, we would not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord, in order that we may not be condemned with the world.

²⁰ For the Lord will by no means reject the harmless man; but He will not receive any gift of the ungodly.

²² Wherefore I said, Wrath slays the great and mighty man.

²⁴ For they are delivered into the hands of the unrighteous man: He covers the faces of the judges of the earth: but if it is not He, who else could it be?

¹⁵ Then shall You call, and I will answer You: but do not reject the work of Your hands.

¹⁶ For their good things were in their hands, but He regards not the works of the ungodly.

¹⁸ Yet He filled their houses with good things, but the counsel for the wicked is far from Him.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous: the Lord has removed my judgment. ⁶ And He has erred in my judgment: my wound is severe without unrighteousness of mine. ⁷ What man is like Job, drinking scorning like water?

¹⁸ He is ungodly that says to a king, You are a transgressor, that says to princes, O most ungodly one. ¹⁹ Such a one as would not reverence the face of an honorable man, neither knows how to give honor to the great, so as that their persons should be respected.

⁷ He will not turn away His eyes from the righteous, but they shall be with kings on the throne, and He will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted. ⁸ But they that are bound in fetters shall be held in cords of poverty. ⁹ And He shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.

¹⁷ there is a deep gulf and a rushing stream beneath it, and your table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous, ¹⁸ but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.

^{2 (39:32)} Will anyone pervert judgment with the Mighty One? And he that reproves God, let him answer it.

^{8 (40:3)} Do not set aside My judgment: and do you think that I have dealt with you in any other way, than that you might appear to be righteous?

³³ For the Lord hears the poor, and does not despise His prisoners.

⁸ O Lord, You shall recompense them on my behalf: Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever: do not overlook the works of Your hands.

⁸ And now, O Lord, You are our Father, and we are clay, all of us the work of Your hands.

¹ Righteous are You, O Lord, that I may make my defense to You: yet I will speak to You of judgments. Why is it that the way of the ungodly prospers? And all that deal very treacherously are flourishing? ² You have planted them, and they have taken root; they have begotten children, and become fruitful; You are near to their mouth, but far from their mind. ³ But You, O Lord, know me; You have tested my heart before You; purify them for the day of their slaughter.

² He has taken me, and led me away into darkness, and not into light. ³ Nay, against me has He turned His hand all the day. ⁴ He has made old my flesh and my skin; He has broken my bones. ⁵ ( { α}) BETH. He has built against me, and compassed my head, and brought travail upon me. ⁶ He has set me in dark places, as them that have long been dead. ⁷ He has hedged me in, and I cannot come forth; He has made my bronze chain heavy. ⁸ ( { β}) GIMEL. ¹⁹ Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

⁷ But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance, nor on his stature, for I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

³² For You are not a man like me, with whom I could contend, that we might come together to judgment.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Because that which is exalted among men is an abomination before God.

¹⁴ And His head and His hair were white, and like white wool, like snow, and His eyes were like a flame of fire;

²⁶ Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know Him: the number of His years is infinite.

² Before the mountains existed, and before the earth and the world were formed, even from age to age, You are God. ³ Turn not man back to his low place, whereas You said, Return, you sons of men? ⁴ For a thousand years in Your sight are like the yesterday which is past, and as a watch in the night.

¹² But You, O Lord, endure forever, and Your memorial from generation to generation.

²⁴ Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are through all generations. ²⁵ In the beginning You, O Lord, laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but You remain; and they all shall grow old like a garment; and as a vesture shall You fold them, and they shall be changed. ²⁷ But You are the same, and Your years shall not fail.

¹² and like a cloak You will roll them up, and they shall be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail."

⁸ But in this let it not escape your notice, beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

¹⁴ And if I should sin, You watch me, and You have not cleared me from iniquity. ¹⁵ Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I cannot lift myself up, for I am full of dishonor. ¹⁶ For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again You have changed and are terribly destroying me; ¹⁷ renewing against me my torture: and You have dealt with me in great anger, and You have brought trials upon me.

¹⁶ But You have numbered my devices: and not one of my sins shall escape You.

¹⁵ Break the arm of the sinner and wicked man: his sin shall be sought for, and shall not be found.

²¹ for He knows the secrets of the heart.

³⁴ and in your hands have been found the blood of innocent souls; I have not found them in holes, but on every oak.

¹² And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will search Jerusalem with a lamp, and I will take vengeance on the men that despise the things committed to them; but they say in their hearts, The Lord will not do any good, neither will He do any evil.

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and had no need that anyone should testify concerning man, for He himself knew what was in man.

⁵ So then judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who also will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make clear the purposes of the hearts. Then each one's praise shall come from God.

³⁹ Behold I, even I, am He, and there is no God beside Me: I kill, and I will make to live: I will smite, and I will heal; and there is none who shall deliver out of My hands.

¹⁰ For He already knows my way, and He has tried me as gold.

⁶ (for I am weighed in a just balance, and the Lord knows my innocence:)

¹⁴ what then shall I do if the Lord should try me? And if also He should at all visit me, can I make an answer?

³⁵ (Oh that I had a hearer!) And if I had not feared the hand of the Lord; and as to the written charge which I had against anyone,

⁷ And it came to pass after the Lord had spoken all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, You have sinned, and your two friends, for you have not said anything true before Me, as My servant Job has.

⁶ For the Lord knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

³ O Lord my God, if I have done this; (if there is unrighteousness in my hands)

⁸ The Lord shall judge the nations: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to my innocence that is in me. ⁹ Oh let the wickedness of sinners come to an end; and then You shall direct the righteous, O God that searches the hearts and minds.

³ You has tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me as with fire, and unrighteousness has not been found in me; I am purposed that my mouth shall not speak amiss.

¹ A Psalm of David. Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in my innocence; and hoping in the Lord I shall not be moved. ² Prove me, O Lord, and try me; purify as with fire my mind and my heart. ³ For Your mercy is before my eyes; and I am well pleased with Your truth. ⁴ I have not sat with the council of vanity, and shall by no means enter in with transgressors. ⁵ I have hated the assembly of evildoers; and will not sit with the ungodly.

¹⁵ Now then, if you are ready, whenever you shall hear the sound of the trumpet, pipe, harp, sackbut, psaltery, harmony, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the golden image which I have made, fine; but if you will not worship, in the same hour you shall be cast into the burning fiery furnace; and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hand?

¹⁰ And now I will expose her uncleanness before her lovers, and no one shall by any means deliver her out of My hand.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you care for Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you care for Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I care for You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that we have conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and especially toward you.

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we were to you that believe;

^{6 (6:7)} that God took it to heart that He had made man upon the earth, and He pondered it deeply. ^{7 (6:8)} And God said, I will blot out man whom I have made from the face of the earth, even man and beast, and reptiles with flying creatures of the sky, for I am grieved that I have made them.

³ Is it good before You if I am unrighteous? For You have disowned the work of Your hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly.

⁷³ Your hands have made me, and fashioned me; instruct me, that I may learn Your commandments.

⁷ even all who are called by My name; for I have prepared him for My glory, and I have formed him, and have made him;

³ So I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was making a vessel on the stones. ⁴ And the vessel which he was making with his hands fell apart. So he made it into another vessel, as it seemed good to him. ⁵ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ⁶ O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? Behold, as the clay is in the potter'shand, so are you in My hands. ⁷ If I shall pronounce a decree upon a nation, or upon a kingdom, to cut them off, and to destroy them; ⁸ and that nation turn from all their sins, then will I relent of the disasters which I purposed to do to them. ⁹ And if I shall pronounce a decree upon a nation and kingdom, to rebuild and to plant it; ¹⁰ and they do evil before Me, so as not to heed My voice, then will I relent of the good which I spoke of, to do it to them.

⁷ And God formed the man of the dust of the earth, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

^{19 (3:20)} In the sweat of your face shall you eat your bread until you return to the ground out of which you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.

⁷ Remember then that my life is breath, and my eye shall not yet again see good.

¹⁴ I have called upon death to be my father, and corruption to be my mother and sister.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and My tongue is glued to My throat; and You have brought Me down to the dust of death.

⁶ Remember Your compassions, O Lord, and Your mercies, for they are from everlasting. ⁷ Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my sins of ignorance; remember me according to Your mercy, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord.

¹⁸ Look upon my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.

⁴⁷ Remember what my being is; for have You created all the sons of men in vain?

³ Turn not man back to his low place, whereas You said, Return, you sons of men?

⁴ Remember us, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people; visit us with Your salvation;

⁷ before the dust also return to the earth as it was, and the spirit return to God who gave it.

⁹ What excellent thing have I prepared as clay of the potter? Will the plowman plow the earth all day? Shall the clay say to the potter, What are you doing that you do not work, nor have hands? Shall the thing formed answer Him that formed it?

⁶ O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? Behold, as the clay is in the potter'shand, so are you in My hands.

²¹ Or does not the potter have authority over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and the other for dishonor?

¹⁴ I will give You thanks; for You are fearfully wondrous; wondrous are Your works; and my soul knows it well. ¹⁵ My bones, which You made in secret, were not hidden from You, nor my substance, in the lowest parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Your eyes saw my unwrought substance, and all men shall be written in Your book; they shall be formed by day, though there should for a time be no one among them.

^{17 (40:12)} He sets up his tail like a cypress, and his nerves are wrapped together. ^{18 (40:13)} His sides are sides of brass, and his backbone is as cast iron.

⁴ And He said to me, Prophesy upon these bones, and you shall say to them, You dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. ⁵ Thus says the Lord to these bones: Behold, I will bring upon you the breath of life; ⁶ and I will lay sinews upon you, and I will bring up flesh upon you, and spread skin upon you, and I will put My Spirit into you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord. ⁷ So I prophesied as the Lord commanded me. And it came to pass while I was prophesying, that behold, there was a rattling, and the bones approached each one to his joint. ⁸ And I looked, and behold, sinews and flesh grew upon them, and skin came upon them above. But there was not breath in them.

² For also in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, ³ if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.

¹⁶ from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the working of the measure of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the edification of itself in love.

¹⁹ since your servant has found mercy before you, and you have magnified your righteousness, in what you do towards me that my soul may live, — but I shall not be able to escape to the mountain, lest perhaps the calamity overtake me and I die.

⁴ The Divine Spirit is that which formed me, and the breath of the Almighty is that which teaches me.

²⁵ "Because of this I say to you, do not worry about your life--what you shall eat, or what you shall drink--nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

²⁵ nor by the hands of men is He served, as though He needed anything, for He gives to all life, and breath, with respect to all things.

²⁸ for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

⁹ When He worked on the left hand, then I observed it not: His right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it.

¹³ And if He too has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for He has both willed a thing and done it.

⁶ Because for every matter there is a time and judgment; for the knowledge of a man is great to him. ⁷ For there is no one that knows what is going to be; for who shall tell him how it shall be?

⁷ I am He that prepared light, and formed darkness; who makes peace, and creates calamity; I am the Lord God, that does all these things.

¹⁵ For you are God, yet we knew it not, the God of Israel, the Savior.

⁹ and remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is none besides Me, ¹⁰ declaring beforehand the latter events before they come to pass, and they are accomplished together; and I said, all My counsel shall stand, and I will do all things that I have planned; ¹¹ calling a bird from the east, and from a land afar off, for the things which I have planned; I have spoken, and brought him; I have created and made him; I have brought him, and prospered his way.

³⁷ Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? The Lord has not commanded it.

³³ Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and untraceable are His ways!

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which He made in Christ Jesus our Lord,

⁷ and keeping justice and mercy for thousands, taking away iniquity and unrighteousness and sins; and He will not clear the guilty; bringing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and to the children's children, to the third and fourth generation.

¹⁸ The Lord is longsuffering and merciful, and true, removing transgressions and iniquities and sins, and He shall by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.

²¹ Why have You not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? But now I shall depart to the earth, and in the morning I am no more.

²⁸ I quake in all my limbs, for I know that You will not leave me alone as innocent.

²⁶ For You have written evil things against me, and You have compassed me with the sins of my youth. ²⁷ And You have placed my foot in the stocks, and You have watched all my works, and have penetrated my heels.

³ If You, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

¹ For the end, A Psalm of David. O Lord, You have proved me, and known me.

⁷ And the Lord said to Moses, I have surely seen the affliction of My people that is in Egypt, and I have heard their cry caused by their taskmasters; for I know their affliction.

¹² If He would take away, who shall turn Him back? Or who shall say to Him, What have You done?

¹⁵ For though I am righteous, He will not listen to me: I will intreat His judgment.

²⁰ For though I should seem righteous, my mouth will be profane, and though I should seem blameless, I shall be proved perverse. ²¹ For even if I have sinned, I know it not in my soul: but my life is taken away.

⁷ For You know that I have not committed iniquity, but who is he that can deliver out of Your hands?

⁶ For even when I remember, I am alarmed, and pains seize my flesh.

^{15 (23:14)} Therefore am I troubled at Him; and when I was reproved, I thought of Him. ^(23:15) Therefore let me take good heed before Him: I will consider, and be terrified of Him.

⁷ But on the contrary, let my enemies be as the overthrow of the ungodly, and they that rise up against me as the destruction of transgressors.

¹⁷ Let sinners be driven away into Hades, even all the nations that forget God.

¹⁵³ Look upon my affliction, and rescue me; for I have not forgotten Your law.

¹¹ Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.

⁵ And I said, Woe is me, for I am pricked to the heart; for being a man, and having unclean lips, I dwell in the midst of a people having unclean lips; and I have seen with my eyes the King, the Lord of hosts.

⁵ For these blessings shall happen to them that work righteousness, and they shall remember Your ways; behold, You were angry and we have sinned; therefore we have erred, ⁶ and we have all become as unclean, and all our righteousness is as a filthy rag; and we have fallen as leaves because of our iniquities; thus the wind shall carry us away.

¹⁸ Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, and between him that serves God, and him that serves Him not.

¹⁰ So likewise you, whenever you do all the things having been commanded to you, say, 'We are unprofitable servants. We have done what we ought to do.' "

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and who disobey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, ⁹ ~ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;

²⁹ If these men shall die according to the death of all men, if also their visitation shall be according to the visitation of all men, then the Lord has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the Lord shall show by a wonder, and the earth shall open her mouth and swallow them up, and their houses, and their tents, and all that belongs to them, and they shall go down alive into Hades, then you shall know that these men have provoked the Lord.

⁵⁹ then shall the Lord magnify your plagues, and the plagues of your seed, great and wonderful plagues, and evil and abiding diseases.

⁹ who does great and untraceable things, glorious things also, and marvelous, of which there is no number:

¹³ In that day I was given up as to a lion until the morning; so has He broken all my bones; for I was so given up from day even to night.

¹⁰ He has troubled me, as a female bear lying in wait; He is to me as a lion in secret places.

⁷ And I will be to them as a panther, and as a leopard. ⁸ I will meet them by the way of the Assyrians, as a female bear excited, and I will tear open their rib cage, and the lions' cubs in the thicket shall devour them there; the wild beasts of the field shall tear them to pieces.

⁸ A lion shall roar, and who will not be alarmed? The Lord God has spoken, and who will not prophesy?

²¹ I went out full, and the Lord has brought me back empty. And why do you call me Naomi, seeing the Lord has humbled me and the Mighty One has afflicted me?

^{8 (16:9)} My falsehood has become a testimony, and has risen up against me: it has confronted me to my face.

⁶ Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, and has raised His bulwark against me. ⁷ Behold, I laugh at reproach; I will not speak: or I will cry out, but judgment is nowhere. ⁸ I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: He has set darkness before my face. ⁹ And He has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has torn me round about, and I am gone, and He has cut off my hope like a tree. ¹¹ And He has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy.

¹⁹ God shall hear, and bring them low, even He that has existed from eternity. Pause. For they suffer no recourse, and therefore they have not feared God.

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from a child, and trusted in his glory; he has not poured out his liquor from vessel to vessel, and has not gone into banishment, therefore his taste remained in him, and his smell departed not.

¹⁰ because it shut not up the gates of my mother's womb, for so it would have removed sorrow from my eyes. ¹¹ For why did I not die in the belly? And why did I not come forth from the womb and die immediately?

²⁰ But safety shall fail them, for their hope is destruction, and the eyes of the ungodly shall waste away.

¹⁰ But a man that has died is utterly gone, and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother! You have born me as some man of strife, and at variance with the whole earth. I have not helped others, nor has anyone helped me; my strength has failed among them that curse me.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day in which I was born! Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me! ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the glad tidings to my father, saying, A male child has been born to you. ¹⁶ Let that man rejoice as the cities which the Lord overthrew in wrath, and repented not: let him hear crying in the morning, and loud lamentation at noon; ¹⁷ because he slew me not in the womb, and my mother became not my tomb, and her womb always enlarged with me. ¹⁸ Why is it that I came forth from the womb to see troubles and distresses, and my days are spent in shame?

²⁴ Indeed, the Son of Man goes just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."

⁸ They shall be destroyed as melted wax; the fire has fallen, and they have not seen the sun.

⁶ And my life is lighter than a word, and has perished in vain hope. ⁷ Remember then that my life is breath, and my eye shall not yet again see good.

¹⁶ For I shall not live forever, that I should patiently endure: depart from me, for my life is vain. ¹⁷ For what is man, that You have magnified him? Or that You give heed to him? ¹⁸ Will You visit him till the morning, and judge him till the time of rest? ¹⁹ How long do You not let me alone, nor let me go, until I shall swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ If I have sinned, what shall I be able to do, O You that understand the mind of men? why have You made me as Your accuser, and why am I a burden to You? ²¹ Why have You not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? But now I shall depart to the earth, and in the morning I am no more.

⁹ (for we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our life upon the earth is a shadow:)

²⁵ But my life is swifter than a post: my days have fled away, and they knew it not. ²⁶ Or again, is there a trace of their path left by ships? Or is there one of the flying eagle as it seeks its prey?

²¹ Withhold Your hand from me, and let not Your fear terrify me.

¹ For a mortal born of a woman is short-lived, and full of wrath.

⁵ Behold, You have made my days old; and my existence is as nothing before You; indeed, every man living is altogether vanity. Pause.

¹³ Spare me, that I may be refreshed, before I depart, and be no more.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so shall he flourish. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it shall not be; and it shall know its place no more.

²³ But now it is dead, why should I fast thus? Shall I be able to bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

¹⁴ For we shall surely die, and be as water poured upon the earth, which shall not be gathered up, and God shall take the life, even as He devises to thrust forth from Him His outcast.

⁵ But let darkness and the shadow of death seize it; let blackness come upon it.

¹³ Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,

⁸ The eye of him that sees me shall not see me again: your eyes are upon me, and I am no more. ⁹ I am as a cloud that is cleared away from the sky: for if a man should go down to the grave, he shall not come up again. ¹⁰ And he shall surely not return to his own house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁰ But a man that has died is utterly gone, and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more. ¹¹ For the sea wastes in length of time, and a river fails, and is dried up. ¹² And man that has lain down in death shall certainly not rise again till the heaven be dissolved, and they shall not awake from their sleep. ¹³ Oh that You had kept me in the grave, and had hidden me until Your wrath should cease, and You should set me a time in which You would remember me! ¹⁴ For if a man should die, shall he live again, having accomplished the days of his life? I will wait till I exist again.

^{22 (16:23)} But my years are numbered and their end has come, and I shall go by the way by which I shall not return.

⁴ Yea, though I walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

⁶ They laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, and in the shadow of death.

¹¹ Shall anyone declare Your mercy in the tomb? And Your truth in destruction? ¹² Shall Your wonders be known in darkness? And Your righteousness in a forgotten land?

¹¹ I said, I shall no more see the salvation of God in the land of the living; I shall no more see the salvation of Israel on the earth; I shall no more see man.

⁶ And they said not, Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who guided us in the wilderness, in an untried and trackless land, in a land in which no man has entered, and no man has dwelt in?

²² Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.

¹⁷ And do the gates of death open to you out of fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw you?

¹⁹ For You have laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.

¹² Shall Your wonders be known in darkness? And Your righteousness in a forgotten land?

¹⁶ Give glory to the Lord your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and you shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.

²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, so that those who desire to cross over from here to you are not able, nor may those from there cross over to us.'
