⁵ Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge the Jews that have been carried away captive, whom I have sent forth out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for good.

¹⁶ who fed you with manna in the wilderness, which you knew not, and your fathers knew not; that He might afflict you, and thoroughly test you, and do you good in your latter days.

¹² Blessed is the man whom You shall chasten, O Lord, and shall teach him out of Your law; ¹³ to give him rest from evil days, until the pit is dug for the wicked. ¹⁴ For the Lord will not cast off His people, neither will He forsake His inheritance;

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted, I transgressed; therefore have I kept Your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that You have afflicted me; that I might learn Your statutes.

⁷ The Lord is good to them that wait on Him in the day of affliction; and He knows them that reverence Him.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and I will try them as silver is tried, and I will prove them as gold is proved: they shall call upon My name, and I will hear them, and say, This is My people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

¹² "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly I say to you, I do not know you.'

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

³ But if anyone loves God, this one has been known by Him.

⁹ But now, having known God, or rather, having been known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which once again you wish to be slaves?

¹⁹ Nevertheless the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His," and, "Let everyone naming the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the discipline of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are reproved; ⁶ For whom the LORD loves He disciplines, and scourges every son whom He receives." ⁷ It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we respected them. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days were disciplining us, as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, in order to partake of His holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. Be zealous therefore, and repent.
