¹⁶ Give glory to the Lord your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and you shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.

²¹ And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward heaven, and let there be darkness over the land of Egypt — darkness that may be felt.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, Give glory this day to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession; and tell me what you have done, and do not hide it from me.

⁵ According to the number of the lords of the Philistines, five golden tumors, for the plague was on you, and on your rulers, and on the people; and golden rats, the likeness of the rats that destroy your land. And you shall give glory to the Lord, that He may lighten His hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

¹⁹ For You have laid us low in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.

¹⁹ But the ways of the ungodly are like darkness; they know not how they stumble.

⁸ For even if a man should live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that comes is vanity.

¹ And remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of evil come, and the years overtake you in which you shall say, I have no pleasure in them. ² While the sun and light are not darkened, nor the moon and the stars; nor the clouds return after the rain;

³⁰ And he shall roar on account of them in that day, as the sound of the swelling sea; and they shall look to the land, and behold, there shall be thick darkness in their perplexity.

²² and they shall look on the earth below, and behold severe distress, and darkness, affliction, and anguish, and darkness so that no one can see; and he that is in anguish shall not be distressed only for a season.

⁹ Therefore has judgment departed from them, and righteousness shall not overtake them; while they waited for light, darkness came upon them; while they waited for brightness, they walked in perplexity.

² Behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and there shall be deep darkness on the nations; but the Lord shall appear upon you, and His glory shall be seen upon you.

²³ I looked upon the earth, and behold, it was not; and to the sky, and there was no light in it.

¹⁵ We assembled for peace, but there was no prosperity; for a time of healing, but there was anxiety.

¹⁹ Have You utterly rejected Judah? And has Your soul departed from Zion? Why have You stricken us, and there is no healing for us? We waited for peace, but there was no prosperity; for a time of healing, and behold trouble!

¹² Therefore let their way be slippery and dark to them, and they shall be tripped up and fall in it; for I will bring evils upon them, in the year of their visitation.

¹⁷ ( { τ}) PHE. While we yet lived our eyes failed, while we looked in vain for our help. ( { φ}) TSADE. We looked to a nation that could not save.

⁹ And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord God, that the sun shall go down at noon, and the light shall be darkened on the earth by day; ¹⁰ and I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head; and I will make them as the mourning of a beloved friend, and those with them as a day of grief.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "For yet a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

⁸ and "a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

¹⁰ He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
