⁴ For before the child shall know how to call his father or his mother, one shall take the power of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria before the king of the Assyrians.

³⁹ And every young child who this day knows not good or evil, they shall enter therein, and to them I will give it, and they shall inherit it.

²⁹ In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of the Assyrians came, and took Ijon, Abel, Beth Maachah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, even all the land of Naphtali, and carried them away to the Assyrians.

⁹ And the king of the Assyrians hearkened to him. And the king of the Assyrians went up to Damascus and took it, and removed the inhabitants, and killed King Rezin.

³ Shalmaneser king of the Assyrians came up against him; and Hoshea became his servant, and paid him tribute.

⁵ And the king of the Assyrians went up against all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it for three years. ⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of the Assyrians took Samaria, and carried Israel away to the Assyrians, and settled them in Halah and in Habor, near the River of Gozan, and in the mountains of the Medes.

⁸ But the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and yet within sixty-five years the kingdom of Ephraim shall cease from being a people. ⁹ And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria the son of Romaliah; but if you believe not, neither will you at all understand.

¹⁵ Butter and honey shall He eat, before He knows either to prefer evil or choose the good. ¹⁶ For before the child shall know good or evil, He refuses evil, to choose the good; and the land shall be forsaken which you are afraid of because of the two kings.

⁶ I will send My wrath against a sinful nation, and I will command My people to take plunder and spoil, and to trample the cities, and to make dust out of them. ⁷ But he does not mean so, neither did he devise thus in his heart; but his mind shall change, and that to destroy nations not a few. ⁸ And if they should say to him, You alone are ruler; ⁹ then shall he say, Have I not taken the country above Babylon and Chalanes, where the tower was built? And have I not taken Arabia, and Damascus, and Samaria? ¹⁰ As I have taken them, I will also take all the kingdoms; howl, you idols in Jerusalem, and in Samaria. ¹¹ For as I did to Samaria and her idols, so will I also do to Jerusalem and her idols. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when the Lord has finished doing all things on Mount Zion and Jerusalem, that I will visit upon the proud heart, even upon the ruler of the Assyrians, and upon the boastful haughtiness of his eyes. ¹³ For he said, I will act in strength, and in the wisdom of my understanding I will remove the boundaries of nations, and will spoil their strength. ¹⁴ And I will shake the inhabited cities; and I will take with My hand all the world as a nest; and I will even take them as eggs that have been left; and there is none that shall escape Me, or contradict Me.

³ And she shall no longer be a strong place for Ephraim to flee to, and there shall no longer be a kingdom in Damascus, or a remnant of Syrians; for you are no better than the children of Israel, even than their glory; thus says the Lord of hosts.

¹¹ and shall not I spare Nineveh, the great city, in which dwell more than twelve myriads of human beings, who do not know their right hand or their left hand; and also much cattle?

¹¹ for the children not yet being born, nor having done anything good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might abide, not of works but of Him who calls,
