² As I called them, so they departed from My presence; they sacrificed to Baalam, and burnt incense to graven images.

² And Moses called all the sons of Israel and said to them, You have seen all things that the Lord did in the land of Egypt before you to Pharaoh and his servants, and all his land; ³ the great temptations which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. ⁴ Yet the Lord God has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, until this day.

¹³ And they provoked the Lord, and forsook Him, and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.

⁷ And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and forgot the Lord their God, and served Baalam and the groves.

⁶ And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalam, and Ashtoreth, and the gods of Aram, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the Lord, and did not serve Him.

⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, Hear the voice of the people, in whatever they shall say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from reigning over them. ⁸ According to all their doings which they have done to Me, from the day that I brought them out of Egypt until this day, even as they have deserted Me, and served other gods, so they also do to you. ⁹ And now head their voice; only you shall solemnly testify to them, and you shall describe to them the manner of the king who shall reign over them.

³³ and went up to the altar which he made in Bethel to sacrifice to the heifers which he made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. And he went up to the altar which he had made, on the fifteenth dy in the eighth month, at the feast which he devised out of his own heart; and he made a feast to the children of Israel, and went up to the altar to sacrifice.

³¹ And it was not enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, but he took Jezabel the daughter of Ethebaal king of the Sidonians for a wife; and he went and served Baal, and worshipped him. ³² And he set up an alter to Baal, in the house of his abominations, which he built in Samaria.

¹⁹ And now send, gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the four hundred and fifty prophets of shame, and the four hundred prophets of the groves, that eat at Jezebel's table.

¹³ And the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, even by the hand of all His prophets, and of every seer, saying, Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My ordinances, and all the law which I commanded your fathers, and all that I sent to them by the hand of My servants the prophets. ¹⁴ But they hearkened not, and made their neck harder than the neck of their fathers. ¹⁵ And they kept not any of His testimonies which He charged them; and they walked after vanities, and became vain, and after the nations round about them, concerning which the Lord had charged them not to do accordingly. ¹⁶ They forsook the commandments of the Lord their God, and made themselves graven images, even two heifers, and they made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

¹⁵ And the Lord God of their fathers sent by the hand of His prophets; rising early and sending His messengers, for He had compassion on His people, and His sanctuary. ¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

³⁰ Yet You had patience with them for many years, and testified to them by Your Spirit by the hand of Your prophets: but they hearkened not; so You gave them into the hand of the nations of the land.

⁹ For the people are disobedient, false children, who would not hear the law of God; ¹⁰ who say to the prophets, Report not to us; and to them that see visions, Speak them not to us, but speak and report to us another error; ¹¹ and turn us aside from this way; remove from us this path, and remove from us the oracle of Israel.

⁷ their sins and the sins of their fathers, says the Lord, who have burned incense on the mountains, and reproached Me on the hills; I will recompense their works into their bosom.

¹⁵ For My people have forgotten Me, they have offered incense in vain, and they fail in their ways, leaving the ancient tracks, to enter upon impassable paths;

¹³ Thus says the Lord: Go, and say to the men of Judah, and to them that dwell in Jerusalem, Will you not receive correction to hearken to My words?

¹⁵ Then all the men that knew that their wives burned incense, and all the women, a great multitude, and all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, ¹⁶ As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. ¹⁷ For we will surely perform every word that shall proceed out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour drink offerings to her, as we and our fathers have done, and our kings and princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem. And so we were filled with bread, and were well, and saw no evils.

¹³ And I will recompense on her the days of Baalam, wherein she sacrificed to them, and put on her earrings, and her necklaces, and went after her lovers, and forgot Me, says the Lord.

⁷ And his people shall cleave fondly to their habitation; but God shall be angry with his precious things, and shall not at all exalt him.

¹ According to the word of Ephraim he adopted ordinances for himself in Israel; and he established them for Baal, and died. ² And now they have sinned increasingly, and have made for themselves a molten image of their silver, according to the fashion of idols, the work of artificers accomplished for them. they say, Sacrifice men, for the calves have come to an end.

⁴ And be not as your fathers, whom the prophets before charged, saying, Thus says the Lord Almighty: Turn from your evil ways, and from your evil practices: but they did not hear, nor heed Me, says the Lord.

¹¹ But they refused to attend, and madly turned their back, and made their ears heavy, so that they should not hear.

³⁴ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil.

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, you also do.

¹⁵ For we are the fragrance of Christ to God among those being saved, and among those perishing. ¹⁶ To some we are the fragrance of death leading to death, but to others the fragrance of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?
