And he gave it to the workmen in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house, ⁶ even to the carpenters, builders, and masons, and also to purchase timber and hewn stones, to repair the breaches of the house. ⁷ Only they did not call them to account for the money that was given to them, because they dealt faithfully. ⁸ And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord. Therefore, behold, I will add you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your tomb in peace, and your eyes shall not see any among all the evils which I bring upon this place.

your hand shall have no strength. ³³ A nation which you know not shall eat the produce of your land, and all your labors; and you shall be perpetually injured and crushed. ³⁴ And you shall be distracted, because of the sights of your eyes which you shall see. ³⁵ The Lord shall smite you with an evil sore, on the knees and the legs, so that you shall not be able to be healed from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head. ³⁶ The Lord shall carry away you and your princes, whom you shall set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers know; and there shall you serve other gods, of wood and stone. ³⁷ And there shall you be a wonder and a parable, and a tale, among all the nations, to which the Lord your God shall carry you away. ³⁸ You shall carry forth much seed into the field, and you shall bring in little, because the locust shall devour it. ³⁹ You shall plant a vineyard, and dress it, and shall not drink the wine, neither shall you delight yourself with it, because the worm shall devour it. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees in all your borders, and you shall not anoint you with oil, because your olive shall utterly cast its fruit. ⁴¹ You shall beget sons and daughters, and they shall not be yours, for they shall depart into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruits of your land shall the blight consume. ⁴³ The stranger that is within you shall be lifted up, and you shall be brought down very low. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him; ⁴⁷ because you did not serve the Lord your God with gladness and a good heart, because of the abundance of all things. ⁴⁸ And you shall serve your enemies, which the Lord will send forth against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the desire of all things; and you shall wear upon your neck a yoke of iron until He has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ The Lord shall bring upon you a nation from the extremity of the earth, like the swift flying of an eagle, a nation whose voice you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ a nation bold in countenance, which shall not respect the person of the aged and shall not pity the young. ⁵¹ And it shall eat up the young of your livestock, and the fruits of your land, so as not to leave to you grain, wine, oil, the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep, until it has destroyed you; ⁵² and has utterly crushed you in your cities, until the high and strong walls be destroyed in which you trusted, in all your land; and it shall afflict you in your cities, which He has given to you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, all that He has given you, in your desperate straits and your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you. ⁵⁴ He that is tender and very delicate within you shall look with an evil eye upon his brother, and the wife in his bosom, and the children that are left, which may have been left to him; ⁵⁵ so as not to give to one of them of the flesh of his children, whom he shall eat, because of his having nothing left him in your desperate straits, and in your affliction, with which your enemies shall afflict you in all your cities. ⁵⁶ And she that is tender and delicate among you, whose foot has not ventured to go upon the earth for delicacy and tenderness, shall look with an evil eye on her husband in her bosom, and her son and her daughter, ⁵⁷ and her offspring that comes out between her feet, and the child which she shall bear; for she shall eat them because of the needs of all things, secretly in your desperate straits, and in your affliction, with which your enemy shall afflict you in your cities. ⁵⁸ If you will not hearken to do all the words of this law, which have been written in this book, to fear this glorious and wonderful name, THE LORD YOUR GOD; He departed not from following the Lord God of his fathers.

¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

⁷ And they gave money to the stone masons and carpenters, and food and drink, and oil, to the Sidonians, and Tyrians, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant of Cyrus king of the Persians to them.

³ And when I heard this thing, I tore my clothes, and trembled, and plucked some of the hairs of my head and of my beard, and sat down mourning. ⁴ Then there assembled to me all that followed the word of the God of Israel, on account of the transgression of the captivity; and I remained mourning until the evening sacrifice.

¹ So when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and praying before the house of God, a very great assembly of Israel came together to him, men and women and youths; for the people wept, and wept aloud.

⁴ And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for several days, and continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

² that I gave charge to my brother, and Hanani the ruler of the palace, over Jerusalem; for he was a true man, and one that feared God beyond many.

And all the people were gathered as one man to the broad place before the Water Gate, and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord commanded Israel. ² So Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and everyone who had understanding was present to hear, on the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read in it from sunrise until midday, before the men and the women; and they understood it, and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. ⁴ And Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden stage, and there stood next to him Mattithiah, Shema, Hanani, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and at his left stood Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. ⁵ And Ezra opened the book before all the people, for he was above the people; and it came to pass when he had opened it, that all the people stood. ⁶ And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God; and all the people answered, and said, Amen, lifting up their hands. And they bowed down and worshipped the Lord with their face to the ground. ⁷ And Jeshua, Bani and Sherebiah instructed the people in the law, and the people stood in their place. ⁸ And they read in the Book of the Law of God, and Ezra taught, and instructed them distinctly in the knowledge of the Lord, and the people understood from the reading. ⁹ And Nehemiah and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites, and they that instructed the people, spoke and said to all the people, It is a holy day to the Lord our God; do not mourn, nor weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the Law.

¹⁴ And they found written in the law which the Lord commanded Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths, in the feast in the seventh month, ¹⁵ and that they should sound with trumpets in all their cities, and in Jerusalem. And Ezra said, Go forth to the mountain, and bring olive branches, and branches of cypress trees, and branches of myrtle, and branches of palm trees, and branches of every thick tree, to make booths, according to that which was written.

¹⁸ And Ezra read in the Book of the Law of God daily, from the first day even to the last day; and they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.

³ And they stood in their place, and read in the Book of the Law of the Lord their God; and they confessed their sins to the Lord, and worshipped the Lord their God.

²⁶ But they turned, and revolted from You, and cast Your law behind their backs; and they killed Your prophets, who testified against them to turn them back to You, and they worked great provocations. ²⁷ Then You gave them into the hand of them that afflicted them, and they did afflict them. And they cried to You in the time of their affliction, and You heard them from heaven, and in Your great mercy You gave them deliverers, and saved them from the hand of them that afflicted them.

¹⁹ And the porters: Akkub, Talmon, and their brothers, a hundred and seventy-two.

¹⁰ For one day in Your courts is better than thousands. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of God, than dwell in the tents of sinners.

³⁵ but were mingled with the heathen, and learned their works. ³⁶ And they served their graven images; and it became an offense to them. ³⁷ And they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was defiled with blood, ³⁹ and was polluted with their works; and they went a whoring by their own deeds. ⁴⁰ So the Lord was very angry with His people, and He abhorred His inheritance. ⁴¹ And He delivered them into the hands of their enemies; and they that hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Ands their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought down under their hands.

⁴ The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands. ⁵ They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see; ⁶ they have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses, but they cannot smell; ⁷ they have hands, but they cannot handle; they have feet, but they cannot walk; they cannot speak through their throat. ⁸ Let those that make them become like them, and all who trust in them.

¹²⁰ Penetrate my flesh with Your fear; for I am afraid of Your judgments.

¹³⁶ My eyes have been bathed in streams of water, because I kept not Your law.

⁶ In all your ways acquaint yourself with her, that she may rightly direct your paths.

²⁷ Turn not aside to the right hand, nor to the left, but turn away your foot from an evil way: ^(4:27A) for God knows the ways on the right hand, but those on the left are crooked: ^(4:27B) and He will make your ways straight, and will guide your steps in peace.

¹¹ A youth when in company with a godly man, will be restrained in his devices, and then his way will be straight.

²⁰ A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed, but the wicked shall not be unpunished.

¹⁶ Woe to you, O city, whose king is young, and your princes eat in the morning!

⁸ And the land is filled with abominations, even the works of their hands; and they have worshipped the works which their fingers made. ⁹ And the mean man bowed down, and the great man was humbled; and I will not pardon them.

⁴ And I will make youths their princes, and mockers shall have dominion over them.

¹⁰ Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us; therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion have departed; trembling shall seize the ungodly. Who will tell you that a fire is kindled? Who will tell you of the eternal place?

¹ And it came to pass, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and put on sackcloth, and went up to the house of the Lord. ² And he sent Eliakim the steward, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests clothed with sackcloth, to Isaiah the son of Amoz, the prophet. And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah, ³ Today is a day of affliction, and reproach, and rebuke, and anger; for the pangs have come upon the travailing woman, but she has not the strength to bring forth. ⁴ May the Lord your God hear the words of Rabshakeh, which the king of the Assyrians has sent, to reproach the living God, even to reproach with the words which the Lord your God has heard; therefore you shall pray to your Lord for these that are left.

¹⁷ And the rest he makes a graven god, and worships and prays, saying, Deliver me; for you are my god. ¹⁸ They have no understanding to perceive; for they have been blinded so that they should not see with their eyes, nor perceive with their heart. ¹⁹ And one has not considered in his mind, nor known in his understanding, that he has burned up half of it in the fire, and baked loaves on its coals and has roasted and eaten flesh, and of the rest of it he has made an abomination, and they worship it. ²⁰ Know that their heart is ashes, and they err, and no one is able to deliver his soul; see, you will not say, There is a lie in my right hand.

⁵ To whom have you compared Me? See and consider, you that go astray. ⁶ They that furnish gold out of a purse, and silver by weight, will weigh it in a scale, and they hire a goldsmith and make idols, and bow down, and worship them. ⁷ They bear it upon the shoulder, and go; and if they put it upon its place, it remains, it cannot move; and whosoever shall cry to it, it cannot hear; it cannot save him from trouble. ⁸ Therefore remember these things, and groan; repent, you that have gone astray, return in your heart;

¹² Hearken to Me, you senseless ones, that are far from righteousness;

¹ See how the just man has perished, and no one lays it to heart; and righteous men are taken away, and no one considers; for the righteous has been removed out of the way of injustice. ² His burial shall be in peace; he has been removed out of the way.

¹⁵ Thus says the Most High, who dwells on high forever, Holy in the holies is His name, the Most High resting in the holies, and giving patience to the faint-hearted, and giving life to the broken-hearted;

² For all these things are Mine, says the Lord; and to whom will I have respect, but to the humble and meek, and the man that trembles at My words?

⁵ Hear the words of the Lord, you that tremble at His word; speak, our brethren, to them that hate you and abominate you, that the name of the Lord may be glorified, and may appear their joy; but they shall be ashamed.

² accordingly as the word of God came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

¹¹ if the nations will change their gods, though they are not gods: but My people have changed their glory, for that from which they shall not be profited. ¹² The heaven is amazed at this, and is very exceedingly horrorstruck, says the Lord. ¹³ For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn out for themselves broken cisterns, which will not be able to hold water.

²⁷ They said to a tree, You are my father; and to a stone, You have begotten me; and they have turned their backs to Me, and not their faces. Yet in the time of their afflictions they will say, Arise, and save us. ²⁸ And where are your gods which you have made for yourself? Will they arise and save you in the time of your affliction? For according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem they sacrificed to Baal.

²⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord; Behold, My anger and wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and upon the men, and upon the cattle, and upon every tree of their field, and upon the fruits of the land; and it shall burn, and not be quenched.

¹ Who will give water to my head, and a fountain of tears to my eyes? Then would I weep for this my people day and night, even for the slain of the daughter of my people.

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, your soul shall weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes shall pour down tears, because the Lord's flock is sorely bruised. ¹⁸ Say to the king and the princes, Humble yourselves, and sit down; for your crown of glory is removed from your head.

¹⁷ And you shall speak this word to them: Let your eyes shed tears day and night, and let them not cease; for the daughter of My people has been sorely bruised, and her plague is very grievous.

¹² (And you sinned worse than your fathers — for behold, you walk everyone after the lusts of your own evil heart, so as not to listen to Me).

²⁷ But it shall come to pass, that if you will not listen to Me and sanctify the Sabbath day, to bear no burdens, nor go in with them by the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then will I kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the streets of Jerusalem, and shall not be quenched.

¹ The word that came from the Lord to Jeremiah, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashur, the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, ² Inquire of the Lord for us, for the king of Babylon has risen up against us. Perhaps the Lord will do according to all His wonderful works, and the king shall depart from us.

¹ Thus says the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and you shall speak there this word, ² and you shall say, Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, that sit on the throne of David; you, your house, your people, and those that go in at these gates.

¹⁰ Weep not for the dead, nor lament for him: weep bitterly for him that goes away; for he shall return no more, nor see his native land.

¹⁵ Shall you reign because you are provoked with your father Ahaz? They shall not eat, and they shall not drink: it is better for you to execute justice and righteousness. ¹⁶ They understood not, they judged not the cause of the afflicted, nor the cause of the poor — is not this your not knowing Me? Says the Lord.

²⁸ The prophet who has a dream, let him tell his dream; and he in whom is My word spoken to him, let him tell My word truly. What is the chaff to the wheat? So are My words, says the Lord.

⁶ then will I make this house as Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse to all the nations of all the earth.

²² And the king sent men to Egypt,

²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, to prevent his being delivered into the hands of the people, or being killed.

³ by the hand of Elasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Babylon) saying,

⁶ So you shall read this scroll in the ears of the people in the house of the Lord, on the day of fasting; and in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities, you shall read to them.

¹⁰ And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, in the house of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, in the entrance of the new gate of the house of the Lord, and in the ears of all the people. ¹¹ And Michaiah the son of Gemariah the son of Shaphan heard all the words of the Lord, out of the book. ¹² And he went down to the king's house, into the house of the scribe. And behold, there were sitting there all the princes, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Jonathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

¹⁵ And they said to him, Read it again in our ears. And Baruch read it.

²¹ And the king sent Jehudi to fetch the scroll. And he took it out of the house of Elishama, and Jehudi read the scroll in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood round the king.

²⁴ And the king and his servants that heard all these words did not seek the Lord, and did not tear their clothes.

²⁹ And you shall say, Thus says the Lord: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written in here, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come in, and destroy this land, and man and beast shall fail from off it? ³⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall not have a man to sit on the throne of David, and his carcass shall be cast out in the heat by day, and in the frost by night. ³¹ And I will visit him, and his family, and his servants; and I will bring upon him, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the land of Judah, all the evils which I spoke of to them; and they did not heed. ³² And Baruch took another scroll, and wrote upon it by the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim had burned. And there were yet more words added to it like the former.

¹⁷ Then Zedekiah sent, and called him; and the king asked him secretly, saying, Is there a word from the Lord? And he said, There is. You shall be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon.

¹⁴ and they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan. And they brought him out, and he sat in the midst of the people.

¹¹ And all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and those that were in Edom, and those that were in all the rest of the country, heard that the king of Babylon had granted a remnant to Judah, and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

² And Ishmael rose up, and the ten men that were with him, and killed Gedaliah, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land,

¹⁷ For we will surely perform every word that shall proceed out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour drink offerings to her, as we and our fathers have done, and our kings and princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem. And so we were filled with bread, and were well, and saw no evils.

²² And the Lord could no longer bear you, because of the wickedness of your doings, and because of your abominations which you wrought; and so your land became a desolation and a waste, and a curse, as it is this day.

⁷ Our fathers sinned, and are not: we have borne their iniquities.

¹¹ And seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and Jechoniah the son of Shaphan stood in their presence in the midst of them, and each one held his censer in his hand; and the smoke of the incense went up.

⁴ and said to him, Go through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that groan and that grieve for all the iniquities that are done in the midst of them.

³ Son of man, these men have conceived their devices in their hearts, and have set before their faces the punishment of their iniquities: shall I indeed answer them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: Any man of the house of Israel, who shall conceive his devices in his heart, and shall set the punishment of his iniquity before his face, and shall come to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him according to the things in which his mind is entangled,

¹⁴ And if he beget a son, and the son see all his father's sins which he has done, and fear, and not do according to them, ¹⁵ and if he has not eaten on the mountains, and has not set his eyes on the devices of the house of Israel, and has not defiled his neighbor's wife, ¹⁶ and has not oppressed a man, and has not retained the pledge, nor committed robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has clothed the naked, ¹⁷ and has turned back his hand from unrighteousness, has not received interest or usurious increase, has worked righteousness, and walked in My ordinances; he shall not die for the iniquities of his father, he shall surely live.

¹ And it came to pass in the seventh year, on the fifteenth day of the month, there came men of the elders of the house of Israel to inquire of the Lord, and they sat before me. ² And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of the house of Israel, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: Have you come to inquire of Me? As I live, I will not be inquired of by you, says the Lord.

⁴⁷ and you shall say to the forest of Negev, Hear the word of the Lord; thus says the Lord, even the Lord: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour in you every green tree, and every dry tree. The flame that is kindled shall not be quenched, and every face shall be scorched with it from the south to the north. ⁴⁸ And all flesh shall know that I the Lord have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

⁵ we have committed iniquity, we have transgressed, and we have departed and turned aside from Your commandments and from Your judgments; ⁶ we have not heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, and our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. ⁷ To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, and to us confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, to them that are near, and to them that are far off in all the earth, wherever You have scattered them, for the sin which they have committed. ⁸ In you, O Lord, is our righteousness, and to us belongs confusion of face, and to our kings, and to our princes, and to our fathers, forasmuch as we have sinned.

¹⁰ Neither have we heeded the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by the hands of His servants the prophets. ¹¹ Moreover, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and have refused to heed Your voice; so the curse has come upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him. ¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us great evils, such as have not happened under the whole heaven, according to what has happened in Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the Law of Moses, all these evils have come upon us: yet we have not sought after the Lord our God, that we might turn away from our iniquities, and have understanding in all Your truth. ¹⁴ The Lord also has watched, and brought these evils upon us: for the Lord our God is righteous in all His work which He has executed, but we have not heeded His voice.

¹³ and tear your hearts, and not your garments, and turn to the Lord your God: for He is merciful and compassionate, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy, and relenting of evil.

⁷ For the Lord God will do nothing without revealing instruction to His servants the prophets.

⁶ And the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from off his throne, and took off his robe, and put on sackcloth, and sat on ashes. ⁷ And proclamation was made, and it was commanded in Nineveh by the king and by his great men, saying, Let not men, or cattle, or oxen, or sheep, taste any thing, nor feed, nor drink water.

¹³ And I will utterly destroy your graven images, and your statues out of the midst of you; and you shall never any more worship the works of your hands.

⁴ For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, and sent before you Moses, and Aaron, and Miriam.

⁸ Has it not been told you, O man, what is good? Or what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and love mercy, and be ready to walk with the Lord your God?

⁶ Who shall stand before His anger? And who shall withstand in the anger of His wrath? His wrath brings to nought kingdoms, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.

¹ The word of the Lord which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amoriah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah.

¹⁰ And there shall be in that day, says the Lord, the sound of a cry from the gate of men slaying, and a howling from the second gate, and a great crashing from the hills.

¹⁸ And their silver and their gold shall by no means be able to rescue them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealously; for He will bring a speedy destruction on all them that inhabit the land.

¹⁶ Thus they spoke, those that feared the Lord, everyone to his neighbor: and the Lord gave heed, and listened, and He wrote a book of remembrance before him for them that feared the Lord and reverenced His name. ¹⁷ And they shall be Mine, says the Lord Almighty, in the day which I appoint for a peculiar possession; and I will make choice of them, as a man makes choice of his son that serves him.

¹⁰ Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah.

⁴¹ And Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and was observing how the crowd was putting money into the treasury. And many rich people were putting in much. ⁴² Then one poor widow came and put in two lepta, which equals a quadrans.

⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. ⁴² Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! ⁴³ And why am I favored thus, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? ⁴⁴ For behold, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby leaped for joy in my womb. ⁴⁵ And blessed is she who has believed, because there shall be a fulfillment to the things having been spoken to her from the Lord." ⁴⁶ And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, ⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. ⁴⁸ Because He looked upon the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. ⁴⁹ For He that is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. ⁵⁰ And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. ⁵¹ He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has overthrown the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly. ⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty. ⁵⁴ He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, ⁵⁵ As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever." ⁵⁶ And Mary remained with her about three months, and she returned to her house.

³⁶ Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;

¹⁰ He that is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he that is unjust in what is least is also unjust in much. ¹¹ Therefore if you were not faithful with the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you what is genuine? ¹² And if you were not faithful in what belongs to another, who will give to you what is yours?

⁴¹ And as He drew near, seeing the city, He wept over it,

⁹ Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But according to your hardness and impenitent heart you are storing up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God,

²⁰ Therefore by works of the law no flesh shall be justified in His sight, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

¹⁵ because the law produces wrath; for where there is no law neither is there transgression.

⁹ For I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, but I died.

² that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that I myself to be accursed from Christ on behalf of my brothers, my countrymen according to the flesh,

² Now furthermore what is required among the stewards, is that one be found faithful.

⁵ But every woman who prays or who prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her own head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.

²⁰ avoiding this, lest anyone should blame us in this abundance which is ministered by us; ²¹ having regard for honorable things, not only before the Lord, but also before men.

¹⁶ forbidding us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but the wrath of God has come upon them to the uttermost.

² And the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be competent to teach others also.

²² But become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ²³ Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; ²⁴ for he observed himself and has gone away, and immediately forgot what sort of man he was. ²⁵ But the one who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one shall be blessed in what he does.

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." ⁷ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. ⁸ Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ⁹ Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter change into mourning and your joy into dejection. ¹⁰ Be humbled before the Lord, and He will exalt you.

⁵ Likewise, younger people, subject yourselves to the elders. And all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, because "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." ⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

⁵ Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you work for the brothers and for the strangers,

¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come, and who shall be able to stand?"
