²³ And it came to pass after the end of the year, that the army of Syria went up against him, and came against Judah and Jerusalem. And they killed all the chiefs among the people, and all their spoils they sent to the king of Damascus.

³⁵ In the day of vengeance I will recompense, whenever their foot shall be tripped up; for the day of their destruction is near to them, and the judgments at hand are close upon you.

²² And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said, Strengthen yourself, and observe, and see what you shall do; for in the spring of the year the son of Hadad king of Syria shall come up against you.

²⁶ And it came to pass at the return of the year, that the son of Hadad reviewed Syria, and went up to Aphek to war against Israel.

¹⁷ Then went up Hazael king of Syria, and fought against Gath, and took it. And Hazael set his face to go against Jerusalem. ¹⁸ And Joash king of Judah took all the holy things which Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, and the kings of Judah had consecrated, and what he himself had dedicated, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the Lord's house and the king's house, and he sent them to Hazael king of Syria; and he went up from Jerusalem.

¹⁷ And it came to pass after the death of Jehoiada, that the princes of Judah went in, and bowed down to the king. Then the king hearkened to them. ¹⁸ And they forsook the house of the Lord God of their fathers, and served wooden images and idols. And there was wrath upon Judah and Jerusalem in that day.

¹⁰ Now therefore understand, you kings: be instructed, all you that judge the earth. ¹¹ Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice in Him with trembling.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance of the ungodly; he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner. ¹¹ And a man shall say, Verily then there is a reward for the righteous; verily there is a God that judges them in the earth.

⁶ I have said, You are gods; and all of you children of the Most High. ⁷ But you die as men, and fall as one of the princes.
