¹² Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless.

¹³ God does not restrain His anger; the helpers of Rahab cower beneath Him.

² “I have heard many things like these; miserable comforters are you all.

¹ For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. ² May He send you help from the sanctuary and sustain you from Zion. ³ May He remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Selah ⁴ May He give you the desires of your heart and make all your plans succeed. ⁵ May we shout for joy at your victory and raise a banner in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your petitions. ⁶ Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He answers him from His holy heaven with the saving power of His right hand. ⁷ Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. ⁸ They collapse and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. ⁹ O LORD, save the king. Answer us on the day we call.

³ Put not your trust in princes, in mortal man, who cannot save. ⁴ When his spirit departs, he returns to the ground; on that very day his plans perish. ⁵ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,

²² Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?

³ But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and the refuge of Egypt’s shade your disgrace. ⁴ For though their princes are at Zoan and their envoys have arrived in Hanes, ⁵ everyone will be put to shame because of a people useless to them. They cannot be of help; they are good for nothing but shame and reproach.”

³ But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD stretches out His hand, the helper will stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.

⁵ This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD. ⁶ He will be like a shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. ⁷ But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him. ⁸ He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not worry in a year of drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.

¹⁷ All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.
