¹⁹ A man is also chastened on his bed with pain and constant distress in his bones,

⁵ So know in your heart that just as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

¹⁰ Asa was angry with the seer and became so enraged over this matter that he put the man in prison. And at the same time Asa oppressed some of the people.

¹² In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his malady became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but only the physicians.

¹⁷ Blessed indeed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For He wounds, but He also binds; He strikes, but His hands also heal.

¹² Blessed is the man You discipline, O LORD, and teach from Your law,

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I keep Your word.

⁷¹ It was good for me to be afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes.

⁹ Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing.

¹² Did the gods of the nations destroyed by my fathers rescue those nations—the gods of Gozan, Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of Eden in Telassar? ¹³ Where are the kings of Hamath, Arpad, Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?’”

³² But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.
