¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in His own likeness. ² Male and female He created them, and He blessed them. And in the day they were created, He called them “man.” ³ When Adam was 130 years old, he had a son in his own likeness, after his own image; and he named him Seth. ⁴ And after he had become the father of Seth, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. ⁵ So Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. ⁶ When Seth was 105 years old, he became the father of Enosh. ⁷ And after he had become the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. ⁸ So Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died. ⁹ When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan. ¹⁰ And after he had become the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹¹ So Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died. ¹² When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel. ¹³ And after he had become the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹⁴ So Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died. ¹⁵ When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared. ¹⁶ And after he had become the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. ¹⁷ So Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died. ¹⁸ When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch. ¹⁹ And after he had become the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. ²⁰ So Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died. ²¹ When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. ²² And after he had become the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. ²³ So Enoch lived a total of 365 years. ²⁴ Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God had taken him away. ²⁵ When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech. ²⁶ And after he had become the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. ²⁷ So Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died. ²⁸ When Lamech was 182 years old, he had a son. ²⁹ And he named him Noah, saying, “May this one comfort us in the labor and toil of our hands caused by the ground that the LORD has cursed.” ³⁰ And after he had become the father of Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. ³¹ So Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died. ³² After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

²⁶ Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.” ²⁷ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

⁴ This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made them.

⁹ This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.

¹ This is the account of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, who also had sons after the flood.

¹ Adam, Seth, Enosh,

²⁹ Only this have I found: I have discovered that God made men upright, but they have sought out many schemes.”

¹ Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of adversity come and the years approach of which you will say, “I find no pleasure in them,”

¹ This is the record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:

³⁶ the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, ³⁷ the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, ³⁸ the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

¹⁸ And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

¹⁰ and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

³ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

⁹ Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not much more submit to the Father of our spirits and live?

²⁷ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

¹⁵ Then the LORD God took the man and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

²³ And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”

¹⁵ Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit? And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

⁴ Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’

⁶ However, from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’

²⁶ From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands.

²⁵ And Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another seed in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”

⁴ Who can bring out clean from unclean? No one!

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous? ¹⁵ If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes, ¹⁶ how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?

⁴ How then can a man be just before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

² The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God. ³ All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.

⁵ Surely I was brought forth in iniquity; I was sinful when my mother conceived me.

³⁵ The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

⁶ Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit.

¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

³⁹ Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.

³ All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.

²⁸ God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”

⁷ And after he had become the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters.

¹⁰ And after he had become the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters.

¹³ And after he had become the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters.

¹⁹ And after he had become the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters.

²² And after he had become the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.

²⁶ And after he had become the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters.

³⁰ And after he had become the father of Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters.

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.

⁷ But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; spread out across the earth and multiply upon it.”

¹² When Arphaxad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.

¹ Adam, Seth, Enosh, ² Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, ³ Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech.

³ Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.

¹² Then our sons will be like plants nurtured in their youth, our daughters like corner pillars carved to adorn a palace.

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground—because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

⁸ So Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

¹¹ So Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

²⁰ and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

¹⁴ For surely we will die and be like water poured out on the ground, which cannot be recovered. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises ways that the banished one may not be cast out from Him.

²³ Yes, I know that You will bring me down to death, to the place appointed for all the living.

⁷ No man can possibly redeem his brother or pay his ransom to God. ⁸ For the redemption of his soul is costly, and never can payment suffice, ⁹ that he should live on forever and not see decay. ¹⁰ For it is clear that wise men die, and the foolish and the senseless both perish and leave their wealth to others.

⁴⁸ What man can live and never see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah

¹⁰ The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty if we are strong—yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

⁵ For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, because the memory of them is forgotten.

⁸ Let your garments always be white, and never spare the oil for your head.

⁵ when men fear the heights and dangers of the road, when the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper berry shrivels—for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.

⁷ before the dust returns to the ground from which it came and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

⁴ Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned. ¹³ For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law. ¹⁴ Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.

²¹ For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. ²² For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

²⁷ Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,

²⁶ And to Seth also a son was born, and he called him Enosh. At that time men began to call upon the name of the LORD.

² Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,

³⁷ the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,

¹⁷ And Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. Then Cain built a city and named it after his son Enoch.

³ Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech.

¹⁴ Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about them: “Behold, the Lord is coming with myriads of His holy ones ¹⁵ to execute judgment on everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of every ungodly act of wickedness and every harsh word spoken against Him by ungodly sinners.”

²⁴ Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God had taken him away.

¹ When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk before Me and be blameless.

⁴⁰ And he told me, ‘The LORD, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you may take a wife for my son from my kindred and from my father’s house.

¹⁵ Then he blessed Joseph and said: “May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,

⁴ Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.

¹² I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.

³³ You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

⁴ You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.

⁹ The LORD will establish you as His holy people, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.

⁴ and so that the LORD may fulfill His promise to me: ‘If your descendants take heed to walk faithfully before Me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.’

³ “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

⁸ I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

¹¹ But I will walk with integrity; redeem me and be merciful to me.

¹³ For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

¹¹ Teach me Your way, O LORD, that I may walk in Your truth. Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.

⁹ I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

¹ A song of ascents. Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in His ways!

⁴ Take me away with you—let us hurry! May the king bring me to his chambers. We will rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. It is only right that they adore you.

⁹ Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right, and the righteous walk in them but the rebellious stumble in them.

³ Can two walk together without agreeing where to go?

⁵ Though each of the peoples may walk in the name of his god, yet we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.

⁸ He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁶ True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.

⁶ Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and decrees of the Lord.

³¹ Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experienced a time of peace. It grew in strength and numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit.

¹ Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

¹⁷ Regardless, each one should lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is what I prescribe in all the churches.

¹⁶ What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”

¹⁵ Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,

¹⁰ so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

⁵ Act wisely toward outsiders, redeeming the time.

¹² encouraging you, comforting you, and urging you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

¹ Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.

⁵ By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. ⁶ And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

⁷ But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

³⁰ returned to his brothers, and said, “The boy is gone! What am I going to do?”

³⁶ Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my sons. Joseph is gone and Simeon is no more. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”

¹ Shortly before the LORD took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal,

¹¹ As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.

¹⁵ This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

¹⁸ “A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.”

⁴³ And Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

¹⁸ Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methusael, and Methusael was the father of Lamech.

¹⁷ And to Adam He said: “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat, cursed is the ground because of you; through toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ Both thorns and thistles it will yield for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. ¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground—because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

¹¹ Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. ¹² When you till the ground, it will no longer yield its produce to you. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”

⁸ Noah, however, found favor in the eyes of the LORD. ⁹ This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God.

²³ And every living thing on the face of the earth was destroyed—man and livestock, crawling creatures and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth, and only Noah and those with him in the ark remained.

²⁴ When Noah awoke from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him,

⁹ “For to Me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you.

¹⁴ then even if these three men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in it, their righteousness could deliver only themselves, declares the Lord GOD.

²⁰ then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves.

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.

³⁶ the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

²⁶ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: ²⁷ People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

²⁰ who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water.

⁵ if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;

¹⁰ And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹³ On that very day Noah entered the ark, along with his sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and his wife, and the three wives of his sons—

¹⁸ The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. ¹⁹ These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was populated.

²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside. ²³ Then Shem and Japheth took a garment and placed it across their shoulders, and walking backward, they covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned away so that they did not see their father’s nakedness. ²⁴ When Noah awoke from his drunkenness and learned what his youngest son had done to him, ²⁵ he said, “Cursed be Canaan! A servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.” ²⁶ He also declared: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the servant of Shem. ²⁷ May God expand the territory of Japheth; may he dwell in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his servant.”

²¹ And sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth; Shem was the forefather of all the sons of Eber.

³² All these are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their generations and nations. From these the nations of the earth spread out after the flood.

⁴ The sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ⁵ The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. ⁶ The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. ⁷ And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites, and the Rodanites. ⁸ The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. ⁹ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. ¹⁰ Cush was the father of Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one on the earth. ¹¹ Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites, ¹² the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites. ¹³ And Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, ¹⁴ the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, ¹⁵ the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, ¹⁶ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. ¹⁷ The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. ¹⁸ Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber. ¹⁹ Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan. ²⁰ And Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan. ²⁴ So from Shem came Arphaxad, Shelah, ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu, ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah, ²⁷ and Abram (that is, Abraham). ²⁸ The sons of Abraham were Isaac and Ishmael.
