⁵ If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.

²⁴ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

⁷ Has any man become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man marry her.”

¹⁸ May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth:

⁹ Enjoy life with your beloved wife all the days of the fleeting life that God has given you under the sun—all your fleeting days. For this is your portion in life and in your labor under the sun.

Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

¹⁰ To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. ¹¹ But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. ¹² To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If a brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. ¹³ And if a woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his believing wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbeliever leaves, let him go. The believing brother or sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace.

²⁹ What I am saying, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none;

²⁸ In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹ Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.

⁴ In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
