16 And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go forth before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Luke 1:76-79

76 And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 to give knowledge of salvation to His people, in forgiveness of their sins, 78 through the affections of compassion of our God, in which the Sunrise will visit us from on high, 79 to shine upon those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace.”

John 1:26-36

26 John answered them saying, “I baptize with water, but in the midst of you stands One whom you do not know, 27 the One coming after me, of whom am I not worthy that I should untie the strap of His sandal.” 28 These things took place in Bethany, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 On the next day, he sees Jesus coming to him and says, “Behold the Lamb of God, the One taking away the sin of the world. 30 This is He concerning whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who has precedence over me, because He was before me.’ 31 And I did not know Him. But so that He might be revealed to Israel, because of this, I came baptizing with water.” 32 And John bore witness saying, “I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and it remained upon Him. 33 And I did not know Him; but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, ‘Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, He is the One baptizing with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.” 35 On the next day John again was standing, and two of his disciples. 36 And having looked at Jesus walking, he says, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

John 3:28-36

28 You yourselves bear witness to me that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I am sent before Him.’ 29 The one having the bride is the bridegroom; and the friend of the bridegroom, the one standing and listening for him, rejoices with joy because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore, this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30 It behooves Him to increase, but me to decrease. 31 The One coming from above is above all. The one being from the earth is from the earth, and speaks from the earth. The One coming from heaven is above all. 32 What He has seen and heard, this He testifies, but no one receives His testimony. 33 The one having received His testimony has set his seal that God is true. 34 For He whom God sent speaks the words of God, for He gives the Spirit without measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. 36 The one believing in the Son has eternal life, but the one not obeying the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
