¹⁴ But John was hindering Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”

²² And Jesus answering, said, “You do not know what you ask for. Are you able to drink the cup which I am about to drink?” They say to Him, “We are able.” ²³ He says to them, “Indeed you will drink My cup, but to sit on My right hand and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”

²³ On that day Sadducees, those saying there is no resurrection, came to Him, and they questioned Him, ²⁴ saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If anyone should die not having children, his brother will marry his wife and will raise up offspring for his brother.’ ²⁵ Now there were seven brothers among us; and the first died, and having married not having seed, he left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ Likewise also the second, and the third, unto the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all, the woman died. ²⁸ In the resurrection, therefore, of which of the seven will she be wife? For all had her.” ²⁹ And, Jesus answering said to them, “You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection, neither do they marry, nor are given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven. ³¹ And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which has been spoken to you by God, saying, ³² ‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

³¹ And when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit upon His throne of glory. ³² And all the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³ And indeed He will set the sheep on His right hand, and the goats on His left. ³⁴ Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, those being blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom having been prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ³⁵ For I hungered, and you gave Me to eat; I thirsted, and you gave Me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; ³⁶ naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungering, and fed You? Or thirsting, and gave You to drink? ³⁸ And when did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothed You? ³⁹ And when did we see You ailing or in prison, and came to You?’ ⁴⁰ And the King answering, will say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it to Me.’ ⁴¹ Then also He will say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, those being cursed, into the eternal fire, having been prepared for the devil and his angels. ⁴² For I hungered, and you gave to Me nothing to eat; and I thirsted, and You gave Me nothing to drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger, and You did not take Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ ⁴⁴ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ ⁴⁵ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, neither did you to Me.’ ⁴⁶ And these will go away into eternal punishment; but the righteous into eternal life.”

¹⁹ Therefore having gone, disciple all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

⁴ and on coming from the market, they do not eat unless they wash; and there are many other things which they received, for them to hold to—washings of cups and vessels and utensils and couches for dining.

⁸ Having neglected the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

¹⁶ The one having believed and having been baptized will be saved, but the one having disbelieved will be condemned.

¹⁶ John answered all saying, “I indeed baptize you with water, but the One mightier than I comes, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire,

³⁸ And the Pharisee, having seen, marveled that He did not wash first before the dinner.

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and how I am distressed until it should be accomplished!

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they have nothing to repay you. For it will be recompensed to you in the resurrection of the righteous.”

³³ And I did not know Him; but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, ‘Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending and abiding on Him, He is the One baptizing with the Holy Spirit.’

²⁵ Then a debate arose among the disciples of John with a certain Jew about purification. ²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have borne witness, behold He baptizes, and all are coming to Him.”

¹ Therefore when Jesus knew that Pharisees heard that Jesus makes and baptizes more disciples than John ² (although indeed Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples),

²⁹ and will come forth—those having done good to the resurrection of life, and those having done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

²⁴ Martha says to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection, in the last day.” ²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one believing in Me, even if he should die, he will live.

³⁸ And Peter says to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

⁴¹ Therefore those indeed having received his word were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.

² being distressed because of their teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection out from the dead.

⁶ whom they set before the apostles. And having prayed, they laid the hands on them.

¹² But when they believed Philip, proclaiming the gospel concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ¹³ And Simon himself also believed, and having been baptized, was steadfastly continuing with Philip. And beholding the signs and great miracles being performed, he was amazed. ¹⁴ Now the apostles in Jerusalem, having heard that Samaria had received the word of God, sent to them Peter and John, ¹⁵ who having come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶ For He was not yet fallen upon any of them, but they had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁷ Then they began laying the hands upon them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ Now of Simon having seen that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered to them money,

³⁶ And as they were going along the road they came upon some water, and the eunuch says, “Behold, water! What prevents me to be baptized?” ^{37 38} And he commanded the chariot to stop. And they both went down to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

⁴⁷ “Is anyone able to withhold the water to baptize these who have received the Holy Spirit, just as we also have?”

³ Then having fasted and having prayed and having laid the hands on them, they sent them off.

¹⁵ And when she was baptized, and her house, she begged, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, abide.” And she persuaded us.

³³ And having taken them in that hour of the night, he washed them from the wounds, and immediately he was baptized, and all his household.

¹⁸ And also some of the Epicureans and Stoics, philosophers, encountered him, and some were saying, “What may this babbler desire to say?” but others, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he was proclaiming the gospel of Jesus and the resurrection.

³¹ because He set a day in which He is about to judge the world in righteousness by a man whom He appointed, having provided a guarantee to all, having raised Him out from the dead.” ³² Now having heard of a resurrection of the dead, some indeed began to mock him, but some said, “We will hear you concerning this again also.”

² he also said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit, having believed?” And they said to him, “But not even did we hear that there is a Holy Spirit.” ³ And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” And they said, “Into the baptism of John.” ⁴ Then Paul said, “John baptized a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” ⁵ And having heard, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And of Paul having laid the hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they were speaking in tongues and prophesying.

⁶ Then Paul, having known that the one part consists of Sadducees, but the other of Pharisees, began crying out in the Council, “Men, brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; I am judged concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead.”

¹⁵ having a hope in God, which they themselves also await, that there is about to be a resurrection, both of the just and of the unjust.

²¹ other than concerning this one voice, which I cried out standing among them: ‘I am judged by you this day concerning the resurrection of the dead.’”

²⁵ And of him reasoning concerning righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix, having become frightened, answered, “Go away for the present, and having found opportunity, I will call for you.”

⁸ Why is it judged incredible by you if God raises the dead?

⁵ But because of your hardness and unrepentant heart, you are treasuring up to yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgement of God, ⁶ who “will give to each according to his works,” ⁷ to those who indeed with endurance in good work are seeking glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; ⁸ but to those of self-interest and disobeying the truth, but being persuaded about unrighteousness, wrath and anger; ⁹ tribulation and distress upon every soul of man working evil, both of Jewish first, and also of Greek; ¹⁰ but glory and honor and peace to everyone doing good, both to Jewish first, and to Greek.

¹⁶ on that day when God will judge the secrets of men according to my gospel, by Christ Jesus.

³ Or are you unaware that as many as have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised up out from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life. ⁵ For if we have become united in the likeness of His death, certainly also we will be of the resurrection,

¹² Now I mean this, that each of you says, “I indeed am of Paul,” and “I of Apollos,” and “I of Cephas,” and “I of Christ.” ¹³ Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized into the name of Paul? ¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, ¹⁵ so that no one should say that you were baptized into my name. ¹⁶ Now also I baptized the household of Stephanas; as to the rest, I do not know whether I baptized any other. ¹⁷ For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel; not in wisdom of discourse, so that the cross of the Christ should not be emptied of its power.

² And all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

¹³ For also in one Spirit we all were baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink one Spirit.

¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised. ¹⁴ And if Christ has not been raised, then also our preaching is void, and your faith is void. ¹⁵ Then also we are found false witnesses of God, because we have witnessed concerning God that He raised up Christ, whom He has not raised if then the dead are not raised. ¹⁶ For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised. ¹⁷ And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. ¹⁸ Also then those having fallen asleep in Christ have perished. ¹⁹ If only in this life we are having hope in Christ, we are more to be pitied than all men. ²⁰ But now Christ has been raised out from the dead, the firstfruit of those having fallen asleep. ²¹ For since death came by a man, so also by a man has come the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as indeed in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. ²³ But each in the own order: Christ the firstfruit, then those of Christ at His coming, ²⁴ then the end, when He shall hand over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He shall have annulled all dominion, and all authority and power. ²⁵ For it behooves Him to reign until He shall have put all the enemies under His feet. ²⁶ The last enemy to be abolished is death. ²⁷ For “He has put in subjection all things under His feet.” But when it may be said that all things have been put in subjection, it is evident that the One having put in subjection all things to Him is excepted. ²⁸ Now when all things shall have been put in subjection to Him, then also the Son Himself will be put in subjection to the One having put in subjection all things to Him, so that God may be all in all. ²⁹ Otherwise what will they do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why also are they baptized for them? ³⁰ And why are we in danger every hour? ³¹ I die every day, as surely as the boasting in you, brothers, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord. ³² If according to man I fought wild beasts in Ephesus, what is the profit to me? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and let us drink, for tomorrow we die.” ³³ Do not be misled: “Bad companionships corrupt good morals.” ³⁴ Sober up righteously and do not sin, for some have ignorance of God. I speak to your shame. ³⁵ But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what body do they come?” ³⁶ You fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. ³⁷ And what you sow is not the body that will be, but you sow a bare grain, if it may be of wheat, or of some of the rest. ³⁸ But God gives it a body as He has willed, and to each of the seeds, its own body. ³⁹ Not all flesh is the same, but indeed one flesh is of men, and another flesh is of beasts, and another flesh is of birds, and another is of fish. ⁴⁰ And there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But truly the glory of the heavenly is one kind, and that of the earthly is another. ⁴¹ There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. ⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in decay; it is raised in immortality. ⁴³ It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. ⁴⁴ It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual. ⁴⁵ So also it has been written: “The first man Adam became into a living soul;” the last Adam into a life-giving spirit. ⁴⁶ However, the spiritual was not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man was made of dust from the earth, the second man from heaven. ⁴⁸ As the one was made of dust, so also are those of the earth; and as is the heavenly one, so also are those of heaven. ⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. ⁵⁰ Now I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood is not able to inherit the kingdom of God, nor does decay inherit immortality. ⁵¹ Behold, I tell to you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— ⁵² in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³ For it behooves this, the perishable to put on the imperishable; and this, the mortal to put on immortality. ⁵⁴ Now when this the perishable shall have put on the imperishable, and this, the mortal, shall have put on immortality, then the word having been written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” ⁵⁵ “Where O death, is your victory? Where O death is your sting?” ⁵⁶ Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, the One giving us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ For we must all be revealed before the judgment seat of Christ, that each may receive back the things done through the body according to what he did, whether good or evil.

²¹ who will transform our body of humiliation, conformed to the body of His glory, according to the working enabling Him even to subdue all things to Himself.

¹² having been buried with Him in baptism, in which also you were raised with Him through the faith of the working of God, the One having raised Him out from the dead.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those having fallen asleep. ¹⁵ For this we declare to you in the word of the Lord, that we the living, remaining unto the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those having fallen asleep, ¹⁶ because the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. ¹⁷ Then we, the living remaining, will be caught away together with them in the clouds for the meeting of the Lord in the air; and so we will be always with the Lord. ¹⁸ Therefore encourage one another with these words.

¹⁸ who have gone astray concerning the truth, asserting the resurrection already to have taken place; and they are overthrowing the faith of some.

¹⁰ consisting only in foods and drinks and various washings—ordinances of the flesh being imposed until the time of reformation.

³⁵ Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not having accepted release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection.

²⁰ at one time having disobeyed, when the longsuffering of God was waiting in the days of Noah, of the ark being prepared, in which a few—that is, eight souls—were saved through water, ²¹ which also prefigures the baptism now saving you, not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the demand of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

⁷ But by the same word now the heavens and the earth exist, having been stored up for fire, being kept unto the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

¹⁴ And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied as to these, saying: “Behold, the Lord has come amidst myriads of His holy ones, ¹⁵ to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly concerning all the works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

¹⁰ And the devil, the one deceiving them, was cast into the lake of fire and of sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet also are; and they will be tormented day and night to the ages of the ages. ¹¹ And I saw a great white throne and the One sitting on it, from whose face the earth and heaven fled, and no place was found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the one of life. And the dead were judged out of the things having been written in the books, according to their deeds. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead who were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them; and each of them were judged according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵ And if anyone was not found having been written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
