²³ ἀλλὰ (But) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) καὶ (and) νῦν (now) ἐστιν (is), ὅτε (when) οἱ (the) ἀληθινοὶ (true) προσκυνηταὶ (worshipers) προσκυνήσουσιν (will worship) τῷ (the) Πατρὶ (Father) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (spirit) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (truth); καὶ (also) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) τοιούτους (such) ζητεῖ (seeks), τοὺς (who) προσκυνοῦντας (worship) αὐτόν (Him). ²⁴ Πνεῦμα (Spirit) ὁ (-) Θεός (God is), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) προσκυνοῦντας (worshiping) ‹αὐτὸν› (Him) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (spirit) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (truth) δεῖ (it behooves) προσκυνεῖν (to worship).”

⁹ μάρτυς (Witness) γάρ (for) μού (my) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ᾧ (whom) λατρεύω (I serve) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πνεύματί (spirit) μου (of me) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ὡς (how) ἀδιαλείπτως (unceasingly) μνείαν (mention) ὑμῶν (of you) ποιοῦμαι (I make),

²⁵ Περιτομὴ (Circumcision) μὲν (indeed) γὰρ (-) ὠφελεῖ (profits), ἐὰν (if) νόμον (the law) πράσσῃς (you do); ἐὰν (if) δὲ (however) παραβάτης (a transgressor) νόμου (of law) ᾖς (you are), ἡ (the) περιτομή (circumcision) σου (of you) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision) γέγονεν (has become). ²⁶ ἐὰν (If) οὖν (therefore) ἡ (the) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision), τὰ (the) δικαιώματα (requirements) τοῦ (of the) νόμου (law) φυλάσσῃ (keeps), οὐχ (not) ἡ (the) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision) αὐτοῦ (of him) εἰς (for) περιτομὴν (circumcision) λογισθήσεται (will be reckoned)? ²⁷ καὶ (And) κρινεῖ (will judge) ἡ (the) ἐκ (by) φύσεως (nature) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision), τὸν (the) νόμον (law) τελοῦσα (fulfilling), σὲ (you) τὸν (who) διὰ (with) γράμματος (the letter) καὶ (and) περιτομῆς (circumcision) παραβάτην (are a transgressor) νόμου (of law). ²⁸ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) Ἰουδαῖός (a Jew) ἐστιν (is); οὐδὲ (neither) ἡ (the one) ἐν (outwardly), τῷ (the) φανερῷ (outward) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (flesh), περιτομή (is circumcision); ²⁹ ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (he who is) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) κρυπτῷ (inward) Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew is one); καὶ (and) περιτομὴ (circumcision is) καρδίας (of heart), ἐν (in) πνεύματι (spirit), οὐ (not) γράμματι (in letter); οὗ (of whom) ὁ (the) ἔπαινος (praise) οὐκ (is not) ἐξ (of) ἀνθρώπων (men), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) σημεῖον (the sign) ἔλαβεν (he received) περιτομῆς (of circumcision), σφραγῖδα (a seal) τῆς (of the) δικαιοσύνης (righteousness) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith) τῆς (that he had) ἐν (while in) τῇ (the) ἀκροβυστίᾳ (uncircumcision), εἰς (for) τὸ (the) εἶναι (to be) αὐτὸν (him) πατέρα (father) πάντων (of all) τῶν (those) πιστευόντων (believing), δι’ (in) ἀκροβυστίας (uncircumcision), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) λογισθῆναι (to be credited) [καὶ] (also) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὴν (the) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), ¹² καὶ (and) πατέρα (father) περιτομῆς (of circumcision) τοῖς (to those) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) περιτομῆς (circumcision) μόνον (only), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) τοῖς (to those) στοιχοῦσιν (walking) τοῖς (in the) ἴχνεσιν (steps) τῆς (of the) ἐν (during) ἀκροβυστίᾳ (uncircumcision) πίστεως (faith) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἡμῶν (of us), Ἀβραάμ (Abraham).

⁶ νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) κατηργήθημεν (we have been released) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law), ἀποθανόντες (having died) ἐν (to) ᾧ (that which) κατειχόμεθα (we were bound), ὥστε (in order for) δουλεύειν (to serve) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) καινότητι (newness) πνεύματος (of the Spirit), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) παλαιότητι (in oldness) γράμματος (of the letter).

¹⁵ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δουλείας (of bondage) πάλιν (again) εἰς (to) φόβον (fear), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐλάβετε (you have received) πνεῦμα (the Spirit) υἱοθεσίας (of divine adoption as sons), ἐν (by) ᾧ (whom) κράζομεν (we cry), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba)! ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!”

²⁶ Ὡσαύτως (Likewise) δὲ (now) καὶ (also), τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) συναντιλαμβάνεται (joins to help) τῇ (the) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) ἡμῶν (of us); τὸ (the) γὰρ (for) τί (things which) προσευξώμεθα (we should pray for) καθὸ (as) δεῖ (it behooves), οὐκ (not) οἴδαμεν (we know), ἀλλὰ (but) αὐτὸ (Himself) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) ὑπερεντυγχάνει (makes intercession), στεναγμοῖς (with groanings) ἀλαλήτοις (inexpressible). ²⁷ ὁ (The One) δὲ (now) ἐραυνῶν (searching) τὰς (-) καρδίας (hearts) οἶδεν (knows) τί (what is) τὸ (the) φρόνημα (mindset) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit), ὅτι (because) κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God), ἐντυγχάνει (He intercedes) ὑπὲρ (for) ἁγίων (the saints).

¹⁷ Ἔχω (I have) οὖν (therefore) τὴν (the) καύχησιν (boasting) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), τὰ (in the things) πρὸς (pertaining to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).

²⁹ ὅπως (so that) μὴ (not) καυχήσηται (might boast) πᾶσα (all) σὰρξ (flesh) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God). ³⁰ Ἐξ (Out of) αὐτοῦ (Him) δὲ (however), ὑμεῖς (you) ἐστε (are) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ὃς (who) ἐγενήθη (has been made) σοφία (wisdom) ἡμῖν (unto us) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God), δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) τε (and) καὶ (also) ἁγιασμὸς (sanctification) καὶ (and) ἀπολύτρωσις (redemption), ³¹ ἵνα (in order that), καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ὁ (The one) καυχώμενος (boasting), ἐν (in the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) καυχάσθω (let him boast).”

²⁵ Εἰ (If) ζῶμεν (we live) Πνεύματι (by the Spirit), Πνεύματι (by the Spirit) καὶ (also) στοιχῶμεν (we should walk).

¹³ οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) οἱ (those) περιτεμνόμενοι (being circumcised) αὐτοὶ (themselves) νόμον (the Law) φυλάσσουσιν (keep), ἀλλὰ (but) θέλουσιν (they desire) ὑμᾶς (you) περιτέμνεσθαι (to be circumcised), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) ὑμετέρᾳ (your) σαρκὶ (flesh) καυχήσωνται (they may boast). ¹⁴ Ἐμοὶ (For me) δὲ (however), μὴ (never) γένοιτο (may it be) καυχᾶσθαι (to boast), εἰ (if) μὴ (never) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σταυρῷ (cross) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), δι’ (through) οὗ (which) ἐμοὶ (to me) κόσμος (the world) ἐσταύρωται (has been crucified), κἀγὼ (and I) κόσμῳ (to the world). ¹⁵ οὔτε (Neither) γὰρ (for) περιτομή (circumcision) τί (anything) ἐστιν (is), οὔτε (nor) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision); ἀλλὰ (instead) καινὴ (a new) κτίσις (creation).

¹⁸ διὰ (through) πάσης (all) προσευχῆς (prayer) καὶ (and) δεήσεως (supplication), προσευχόμενοι (praying) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every) καιρῷ (season) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit), καὶ (and) εἰς (unto) αὐτὸ (this very thing), ἀγρυπνοῦντες (watching) ἐν (with) πάσῃ (all) προσκαρτερήσει (perseverance) καὶ (and) δεήσει (supplication) περὶ (for) πάντων (all) τῶν (-) ἁγίων (saints),

⁴ καίπερ (though) ἐγὼ (I) ἔχων (have) πεποίθησιν (confidence) καὶ (even) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh). Εἴ (If) τις (any) δοκεῖ (thinks) ἄλλος (other) πεποιθέναι (to have confidence) ἐν (in) σαρκί (the flesh), ἐγὼ (I) μᾶλλον (more): ⁵ περιτομῇ (circumcision) ὀκταήμερος (on the eighth day); ἐκ (of) γένους (the nation) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), φυλῆς (of the tribe) Βενιαμίν (of Benjamin); Ἑβραῖος (a Hebrew) ἐξ (of) Ἑβραίων (Hebrews); κατὰ (according to) νόμον (the Law), Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee); ⁶ κατὰ (according to) ζῆλος (zeal), διώκων (persecuting) τὴν (the) ἐκκλησίαν (church); κατὰ (according to) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) τὴν (which is) ἐν (in) νόμῳ (the Law), γενόμενος (having become) ἄμεμπτος (faultless). ⁷ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἅτινα (whatever things) ἦν (were) μοι (to me) κέρδη (gain), ταῦτα (these) ἥγημαι (I have esteemed), διὰ (because of) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ), ζημίαν (loss). ⁸ ἀλλὰ (But) μὲν‿ (-), οὖν‿ (therefore) γε (indeed), καὶ (also) ἡγοῦμαι (I count) πάντα (all things) ζημίαν (loss) εἶναι (to be) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) ὑπερέχον (excelling) τῆς (-) γνώσεως (knowledge) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) μου (of me), δι’ (because of) ὃν (whom) τὰ (-) πάντα (all things) ἐζημιώθην (I have lost), καὶ (and) ἡγοῦμαι (esteem them) σκύβαλα (rubbish), ἵνα (that) Χριστὸν (Christ) κερδήσω (I may gain) ⁹ καὶ (and) εὑρεθῶ (be found) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him), μὴ (not) ἔχων (having) ἐμὴν (my own) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), τὴν (which is) ἐκ (of) νόμου (the Law), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (that) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith) Χριστοῦ (from Christ), τὴν (the) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness) ἐπὶ (on the basis of) τῇ (-) πίστει (faith),

¹¹ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) περιετμήθητε (you were circumcised) περιτομῇ (with the circumcision) ἀχειροποιήτῳ (made without hands), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀπεκδύσει (removal) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) περιτομῇ (circumcision) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

²³ ἀναγεγεννημένοι (Having been born again), οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) σπορᾶς (seed) φθαρτῆς (perishable), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀφθάρτου (of imperishable), διὰ (by) λόγου (the word) ζῶντος (living) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) μένοντος (abiding), ²⁴ διότι (because), “Πᾶσα (All) σὰρξ (flesh is) ὡς (like) χόρτος (grass), καὶ (and) πᾶσα (all) δόξα (the glory) αὐτῆς (of it) ὡς (like) ἄνθος (the flower) χόρτου (of grass). ἐξηράνθη (Withers) ὁ (the) χόρτος (grass), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἄνθος (flower) ἐξέπεσεν (falls away), ²⁵ τὸ (-) δὲ (but) ῥῆμα (the word) Κυρίου (of the Lord) μένει (abides) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).” Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (word) τὸ (-) εὐαγγελισθὲν (having been proclaimed) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).
