¹² Οὐχ (Not) ὅτι (that) ἤδη (already) ἔλαβον (I have obtained it), ἢ (or) ἤδη (already) τετελείωμαι (have been perfected); διώκω (I am pursuing) δὲ (however), εἰ (if) καὶ (also) καταλάβω (I may lay hold) ἐφ’ (of) ᾧ (that for which) καὶ (also) κατελήμφθην (I was laid hold of) ὑπὸ (by) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

³ Ἐν (In) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) πορεύεσθαι (proceeding), ἐγένετο (it came to pass) αὐτὸν (as he) ἐγγίζειν (draws near) τῇ (-) Δαμασκῷ (to Damascus), ἐξαίφνης (suddenly) τε (also) αὐτὸν (him) περιήστραψεν (flashed around) φῶς (a light) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven). ⁴ καὶ (And) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἤκουσεν (he heard) φωνὴν (a voice) λέγουσαν (saying) αὐτῷ (to him), “Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (do you persecute)?” ⁵ Εἶπεν (He said) δέ (then), “Τίς (Who) εἶ (are You), Κύριε (Lord)?” Ὁ (-) δέ (And He said), “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὃν (whom) σὺ (you) διώκεις (are persecuting). ⁶ ἀλλὰ (But) ἀνάστηθι (rise up) καὶ (and) εἴσελθε (enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city), καὶ (and) λαληθήσεταί (it will be told) σοι (you) ὅ (that) τί (what) σε (you) δεῖ (it behooves) ποιεῖν (to do).”

¹⁵ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord), “Πορεύου (Go), ὅτι (for) σκεῦος (a vessel) ἐκλογῆς (of choice) ἐστίν (is) μοι (to Me) οὗτος (this man), τοῦ (-) βαστάσαι (to carry) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me) ἐνώπιον (before) (τῶν) (the) ἐθνῶν (Gentiles), τε (and) καὶ (also) βασιλέων (kings), υἱῶν (the sons) τε (then) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel);

¹⁹ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ὃ (that) θέλω (I desire) ποιῶ (I do) ἀγαθόν (good), ἀλλὰ (but) ὃ (that) οὐ (not) θέλω (I do want) κακὸν (evil), τοῦτο (this) πράσσω (I practice). ²⁰ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) ὃ (what) οὐ (not) θέλω (I do want), ἐγὼ (I) τοῦτο (this) ποιῶ (do), οὐκέτι (it is no longer) ἐγὼ (I) κατεργάζομαι (who do) αὐτὸ (it), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡ (-) οἰκοῦσα (dwelling) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (me) ἁμαρτία (sin). ²¹ Εὑρίσκω (I find) ἄρα (so) τὸν (the) νόμον (principle), τῷ (that) θέλοντι (desiring) ἐμοὶ (me) ποιεῖν (to do) τὸ (-) καλὸν (good), ὅτι (that) ἐμοὶ (me) τὸ (-) κακὸν (evil) παράκειται (is present with). ²² συνήδομαι (I delight) γὰρ (for) τῷ (in the) νόμῳ (law) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) ἔσω (inward) ἄνθρωπον (man); ²³ βλέπω (I see) δὲ (however) ἕτερον (another) νόμον (law) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μέλεσίν (members) μου (of me), ἀντιστρατευόμενον (warring against) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind) μου (of me), καὶ (and) αἰχμαλωτίζοντά (making captive) με (me) ἐν (to) τῷ (the) νόμῳ (law) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), τῷ (-) ὄντι (being) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μέλεσίν (members) μου (of me). ²⁴ Ταλαίπωρος (O wretched) ἐγὼ (I am) ἄνθρωπος (man)! τίς (Who) με (me) ῥύσεται (will deliver) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) σώματος (body) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death) τούτου (this)?

¹⁰ ὅταν (when) δὲ (however) ἔλθῃ (should come) τὸ (the) τέλειον (perfect), τὸ (the) ἐκ (in) μέρους (part) καταργηθήσεται (will be done away).

¹ Ταύτας (These) οὖν (therefore) ἔχοντες (having) τὰς (-) ἐπαγγελίας (promises), ἀγαπητοί (beloved), καθαρίσωμεν (we should cleanse) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) ἀπὸ (from) παντὸς (every) μολυσμοῦ (defilement) σαρκὸς (of flesh) καὶ (and) πνεύματος (spirit), ἐπιτελοῦντες (perfecting) ἁγιωσύνην (holiness) ἐν (in) φόβῳ (the fear) Θεοῦ (of God).

⁹ χαίρομεν (We rejoice) γὰρ (for) ὅταν (when) ἡμεῖς (we) ἀσθενῶμεν (might be weak), ὑμεῖς (you) δὲ (however) δυνατοὶ (strong) ἦτε (might be). τοῦτο (But this) καὶ (also): εὐχόμεθα (We pray for) τὴν (the) ὑμῶν (of you) κατάρτισιν (perfection).

¹⁷ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) σὰρξ (flesh) ἐπιθυμεῖ (desires), κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit), τὸ (-) δὲ (and) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit) κατὰ (against) τῆς (the) σαρκός (flesh); ταῦτα (these) γὰρ (for) ἀλλήλοις (to one another) ἀντίκειται (are opposed), ἵνα (in order) μὴ (not) ἃ (that) ἐὰν (if) θέλητε (you might wish) ταῦτα (those things) ποιῆτε (you should do).

⁴ καθὼς (just as) ἐξελέξατο (He chose) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) πρὸ (before) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), εἶναι (to be) ἡμᾶς (for us) ἁγίους (holy) καὶ (and) ἀμώμους (blameless) κατενώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love)

¹² πρὸς (toward) τὸν (the) καταρτισμὸν (perfecting) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints), εἰς (for) ἔργον (the work) διακονίας (of ministry), εἰς (for) οἰκοδομὴν (the building up) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

¹³ ἀδελφοί (Brothers), ἐγὼ (I) ἐμαυτὸν (myself) οὐ* (not) λογίζομαι (do consider) κατειληφέναι (to have taken hold of it). ἓν (One thing) δέ (however): τὰ (The things) μὲν (indeed) ὀπίσω (behind) ἐπιλανθανόμενος (forgetting), τοῖς (to the things) δὲ (now) ἔμπροσθεν (ahead) ἐπεκτεινόμενος (reaching forward), ¹⁴ κατὰ (toward) σκοπὸν (the goal) διώκω (I press on) εἰς (for) τὸ (the) βραβεῖον (prize) τῆς (of the) ἄνω (upward) κλήσεως (calling) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

¹⁶ πλὴν (Nevertheless) εἰς (to) ὃ (that which) ἐφθάσαμεν (we have attained), τῷ (by the) αὐτῷ (same) στοιχεῖν (to walk).

¹⁵ Ὁρᾶτε (See that) μή (no) τις (one) κακὸν (evil) ἀντὶ (for) κακοῦ (evil) τινι (to anyone) ἀποδῷ (has repaid), ἀλλὰ (but) πάντοτε (always) τὸ (the) ἀγαθὸν (good) διώκετε (pursue) [καὶ] (also) εἰς (toward) ἀλλήλους (one another) καὶ (and) εἰς (toward) πάντας (all).

¹³ Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) ὀφείλομεν (ought) εὐχαριστεῖν (to give thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) πάντοτε (always) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved) ὑπὸ (by) Κυρίου (the Lord), ὅτι (that) εἵλατο (has chosen) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἀπ᾽‿ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning), εἰς (unto) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), καὶ (and) πίστει (by faith) ἀληθείας (of the truth);

¹⁰ ἐν (in) ἔργοις (works) καλοῖς (good) μαρτυρουμένη (being borne witness to), εἰ (if) ἐτεκνοτρόφησεν (she has brought up children), εἰ (if) ἐξενοδόχησεν (she entertained strangers), εἰ (if) ἁγίων (saints’) πόδας (feet) ἔνιψεν (she has washed), εἰ (if to those) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed) ἐπήρκεσεν (she has imparted relief), εἰ (if) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) ἀγαθῷ (good) ἐπηκολούθησεν (she has followed after).

¹¹ Σὺ (You) δέ (however), ὦ (O) ἄνθρωπε (man) Θεοῦ (of God), ταῦτα (these things) φεῦγε (flee); δίωκε (pursue) δὲ (now) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness), εὐσέβειαν (godliness), πίστιν (faith), ἀγάπην (love), ὑπομονήν (endurance), πραϋπαθίαν (and gentleness). ¹² ἀγωνίζου (Fight) τὸν (the) καλὸν (good) ἀγῶνα (fight) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith). ἐπιλαβοῦ (Lay hold) τῆς (of the) αἰωνίου (eternal) ζωῆς (life), εἰς (to) ἣν (which) ἐκλήθης (you were called), καὶ (and also) ὡμολόγησας (did confess) τὴν (the) καλὴν (good) ὁμολογίαν (confession) ἐνώπιον (before) πολλῶν (many) μαρτύρων (witnesses).

¹⁹ ἀποθησαυρίζοντας (treasuring up) ἑαυτοῖς (for themselves) θεμέλιον (a foundation) καλὸν (good) εἰς (for) τὸ (the) μέλλον (future), ἵνα (so that) ἐπιλάβωνται (they may take hold) τῆς (of) ὄντως (that which is indeed) ζωῆς (life).

¹⁴ Εἰρήνην (Peace) διώκετε (pursue) μετὰ (with) πάντων (all), καὶ (and) τὸν (-) ἁγιασμόν (holiness), οὗ (which) χωρὶς (without) οὐδεὶς (no one) ὄψεται (will see) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord),

²³ πανηγύρει (to the assembly), καὶ (and) ἐκκλησίᾳ (to the church) πρωτοτόκων (of the firstborn) ἀπογεγραμμένων (having been enrolled) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), καὶ (and) Κριτῇ (to the judge) Θεῷ (God) πάντων (of all), καὶ (and) πνεύμασι (to the spirits) δικαίων (of the righteous) τετελειωμένων (having been perfected),

²¹ καταρτίσαι (equip) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything) ἀγαθῷ (good), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ποιῆσαι (to do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ποιῶν (working) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) τὸ (that which is) εὐάρεστον (well pleasing) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ᾧ (to whom be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

² πολλὰ (In many ways) γὰρ (for) πταίομεν (we stumble) ἅπαντες (all). εἴ (If) τις (anyone) ἐν (in) λόγῳ (what he says) οὐ (not) πταίει (does stumble), οὗτος (this one is) τέλειος (a perfect) ἀνήρ (man), δυνατὸς (able) χαλιναγωγῆσαι (to bridle) καὶ (indeed) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body).

¹¹ ἐκκλινάτω (Let him turn away) δὲ (also) ἀπὸ (from) κακοῦ (evil), καὶ (and) ποιησάτω (let him do) ἀγαθόν (good). ζητησάτω (Let him seek) εἰρήνην (peace) καὶ (and) διωξάτω (let him pursue) αὐτήν (it). ¹² ὅτι (Because) ὀφθαλμοὶ (the eyes) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπὶ (are on) δικαίους (the righteous), καὶ (and) ὦτα (the ears) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (toward) δέησιν (prayer) αὐτῶν (of them). πρόσωπον (The face) δὲ (however) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ἐπὶ (is against) ποιοῦντας (those doing) κακά (evil).” ¹³ Καὶ (And) τίς (who is) ὁ (he who) κακώσων (will harm) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐὰν (if) τοῦ (for that which is) ἀγαθοῦ (good), ζηλωταὶ (zealous) γένησθε (you should be)?

¹⁰ Ὁ (The) δὲ (now) Θεὸς (God) πάσης (of all) χάριτος (grace), ὁ (the one) καλέσας (having called) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) αἰώνιον (eternal) αὐτοῦ (of Him) δόξαν (glory) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ), ὀλίγον (a little while) παθόντας (of you having suffered), αὐτὸς (He Himself) καταρτίσει (will perfect), στηρίξει (will confirm), σθενώσει (will strengthen), θεμελιώσει (and will establish you).

⁵ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸ (very reason) τοῦτο (for this) δὲ (now), σπουδὴν (earnestness) πᾶσαν (all) παρεισενέγκαντες (having brought in), ἐπιχορηγήσατε (supplement) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith) ὑμῶν (of you) τὴν (-) ἀρετήν (virtue), ἐν (into) δὲ (and) τῇ (-) ἀρετῇ (virtue) τὴν (-) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ⁶ ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) γνώσει (knowledge) τὴν (-) ἐγκράτειαν (self-control), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ἐγκρατείᾳ (self-control) τὴν (-) ὑπομονήν (endurance), ἐν (into) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness), ⁷ ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) εὐσεβείᾳ (godliness) τὴν (-) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly affection), ἐν (in) δὲ (then) τῇ (-) φιλαδελφίᾳ (brotherly affection) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love). ⁸ ταῦτα (These things) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (in you) ὑπάρχοντα (being) καὶ (and) πλεονάζοντα (abounding), οὐκ (neither) ἀργοὺς (idle) οὐδὲ (nor) ἀκάρπους (unfruitful) καθίστησιν (make you), εἰς (as to) τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge).

¹⁸ αὐξάνετε (Grow) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) χάριτι (grace), καὶ (and) γνώσει (in knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ). αὐτῷ (To Him be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) καὶ (both) νῦν (now) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) ἡμέραν (the day) αἰῶνος (of eternity). ‹Ἀμήν› (Amen).
