¹⁴ Καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having come) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) Πέτρου (of Peter), εἶδεν (He saw) τὴν (the) πενθερὰν (mother-in-law) αὐτοῦ (of him) βεβλημένην (lying sick) καὶ (and) πυρέσσουσαν (fevering).

²⁰ Καὶ (And) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Αἱ (-) ἀλώπεκες (Foxes) φωλεοὺς (holes) ἔχουσιν (have), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατασκηνώσεις (nests); ὁ (-) δὲ (but) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man), οὐκ (no) ἔχει (has) ποῦ (place where) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) κλίνῃ (He might lay).”

²⁵ Λέγει (He says), “Ναί (Yes).” Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντα (he having entered) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house), προέφθασεν (anticipated) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), λέγων (saying), “Τί (What) σοι (you) δοκεῖ (do think), Σίμων (Simon)? οἱ (The) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), ἀπὸ (from) τίνων (whom) λαμβάνουσιν (do they receive) τέλη (custom) ἢ (or) κῆνσον (tribute)? ἀπὸ (From) τῶν (the) υἱῶν (sons) αὐτῶν (of them), ἢ (or) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (-) ἀλλοτρίων (strangers)?”

²⁹ Καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately), ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) συναγωγῆς (synagogue) ἐξελθόντες (having gone forth), ἦλθον (they came) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) Σίμωνος (of Simon) καὶ (and) Ἀνδρέου (Andrew), μετὰ (with) Ἰακώβου (James) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννου (John). ³⁰ ἡ (-) δὲ (and) πενθερὰ (the mother-in-law) Σίμωνος (of Simon) κατέκειτο (was laying sick) πυρέσσουσα (fevering). καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (immediately) λέγουσιν (they speak) αὐτῷ (to Him) περὶ (about) αὐτῆς (her). ³¹ καὶ (And) προσελθὼν (having come to her), ἤγειρεν (He raised up) αὐτὴν (her), κρατήσας (having taken hold) τῆς (of the) χειρός (hand). καὶ (And) ἀφῆκεν (left) αὐτὴν (her) ὁ (the) πυρετός (fever), καὶ (and) διηκόνει (she began to minister) αὐτοῖς (to them). ³² Ὀψίας (Evening) δὲ (now) γενομένης (having come), ὅτε (when) ἔδυ* (went down) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun), ἔφερον (they began bringing) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) κακῶς (sick) ἔχοντας (being), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) δαιμονιζομένους (being possessed by demons). ³³ καὶ (And) ἦν (was) ὅλη (all) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) ἐπισυνηγμένη (gathered together) πρὸς (at) τὴν (the) θύραν (door). ³⁴ καὶ (And) ἐθεράπευσεν (He healed) πολλοὺς (many) κακῶς (sick) ἔχοντας (being) ποικίλαις (of various) νόσοις (diseases), καὶ (and) δαιμόνια (demons) πολλὰ (many) ἐξέβαλεν (He cast out). καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἤφιεν (He would allow) λαλεῖν (to speak) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons), ὅτι (because) ᾔδεισαν (they knew) αὐτόν (Him).

³⁸ Ἀναστὰς (Having risen up) δὲ (then) ἀπὸ (out of) τῆς (the) συναγωγῆς (synagogue), εἰσῆλθεν (He entered) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) Σίμωνος (of Simon). πενθερὰ (The mother-in-law) δὲ (then) τοῦ (-) Σίμωνος (of Simon) ἦν (was) συνεχομένη (oppressed with) πυρετῷ (a fever) μεγάλῳ (great); καὶ (and) ἠρώτησαν (they appealed) αὐτὸν (to Him) περὶ (for) αὐτῆς (her). ³⁹ καὶ (And) ἐπιστὰς (having stood) ἐπάνω (over) αὐτῆς (her), ἐπετίμησεν (He rebuked) τῷ (the) πυρετῷ (fever), καὶ (and) ἀφῆκεν (it left) αὐτήν (her); παραχρῆμα (immediately) δὲ (then) ἀναστᾶσα (having arisen), διηκόνει (she began to serve) αὐτοῖς (them). ⁴⁰ Δύνοντος (At the setting) δὲ (now) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), ἅπαντες (all) ὅσοι (as many as) εἶχον (had any) ἀσθενοῦντας (ailing) νόσοις (with diseases) ποικίλαις (various), ἤγαγον (brought) αὐτοὺς (them) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him), ὁ (-) δὲ (and) ἑνὶ (on one) ἑκάστῳ (each) αὐτῶν (of them), τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐπιτιθεὶς (having laid), ἐθεράπευεν (He would heal) αὐτούς (them). ⁴¹ ἐξήρχετο (Were going out) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) δαιμόνια (demons) ἀπὸ (from) πολλῶν (many), κραυγάζοντα (crying out) καὶ (and) λέγοντα (saying) ὅτι (-), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).” καὶ (And) ἐπιτιμῶν (rebuking them), οὐκ (not) εἴα (did He allow) αὐτὰ (them) λαλεῖν (to speak), ὅτι (because) ᾔδεισαν (they knew) τὸν (the) Χριστὸν (Christ) αὐτὸν (Him) εἶναι (to be).

⁵ μὴ (No) οὐκ (not) ἔχομεν (have we) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἀδελφὴν (a sister), γυναῖκα (a wife), περιάγειν (to take about), ὡς (as) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (other) ἀπόστολοι (apostles), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀδελφοὶ (brothers) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), καὶ (and) Κηφᾶς (Cephas)?

² δεῖ (It behooves) οὖν (therefore) τὸν (the) ἐπίσκοπον (overseer) ἀνεπίλημπτον (above reproach) εἶναι (to be), μιᾶς (of one) γυναικὸς (wife) ἄνδρα (the husband), νηφάλιον (sober), σώφρονα (self-controlled), κόσμιον (respectable), φιλόξενον (hospitable), διδακτικόν (able to teach),

³ κωλυόντων (forbidding) γαμεῖν (to marry), ἀπέχεσθαι (commanding to abstain) βρωμάτων (from foods) ἃ (that) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἔκτισεν (created) εἰς (for) μετάλημψιν (reception) μετὰ (with) εὐχαριστίας (thanksgiving) τοῖς (by the) πιστοῖς (faithful) καὶ (and) ἐπεγνωκόσι (those knowing) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth).

⁴ Τίμιος (Honorable let) ὁ (-) γάμος (marriage be) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοίτη (marriage bed) ἀμίαντος (undefiled); πόρνους (the sexually immoral) γὰρ (for) καὶ (and) μοιχοὺς (adulterers) κρινεῖ (will judge) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).
