²⁵ καὶ (And) κατέβη (came down) ἡ (the) βροχὴ (rain), καὶ (and) ἦλθον (came) οἱ (the) ποταμοὶ (torrents), καὶ (and) ἔπνευσαν (blew) οἱ (the) ἄνεμοι (winds), καὶ (and) προσέπεσαν (beat) τῇ (that) οἰκίᾳ (house) ἐκείνῃ (upon); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔπεσεν (it fell), τεθεμελίωτο (it had been founded) γὰρ (for) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock).

¹⁸ κἀγὼ (I also) δέ (now) σοι (to you) λέγω (say) ὅτι (that) σὺ (you) εἶ (are) Πέτρος (Peter), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (the) πέτρᾳ (rock) οἰκοδομήσω (I will build) μου (My) τὴν (-) ἐκκλησίαν (church), καὶ (and) πύλαι (the gates) ᾅδου (of hades) οὐ (not) κατισχύσουσιν (will prevail against) αὐτῆς (it).

²² ἐπιστηρίζοντες (strengthening) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of the) μαθητῶν (disciples), παρακαλοῦντες (exhorting them) ἐμμένειν (to continue) τῇ (in the) πίστει (faith), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) “Διὰ (through) πολλῶν (many) θλίψεων (tribulations) δεῖ (it behooves) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

¹³ ἑκάστου (of each) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) φανερὸν (manifest) γενήσεται (will become); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) ἡμέρα (day) δηλώσει (will disclose it), ὅτι (because) ἐν (in) πυρὶ (fire) ἀποκαλύπτεται (it is revealed); καὶ (and) ἑκάστου (of each) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work), ὁποῖόν (what sort) ἐστιν (it is), τὸ (the) πῦρ (fire) αὐτὸ (itself) δοκιμάσει (will prove). ¹⁴ εἴ (If) τινος (of anyone) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) μενεῖ (will remain) ὃ (which) ἐποικοδόμησεν (he built up), μισθὸν (a reward) λήμψεται (he will receive). ¹⁵ εἴ (If) τινος (of anyone) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) κατακαήσεται (will be burned up), ζημιωθήσεται (he will suffer loss); αὐτὸς (he himself) δὲ (however) σωθήσεται (will be saved), οὕτως (so) δὲ (however) ὡς (as) διὰ (through) πυρός (fire).

¹⁷ κατοικῆσαι (for to dwell) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love) ἐρριζωμένοι (being rooted) καὶ (and) τεθεμελιωμένοι (being founded),

⁷ ἐρριζωμένοι (having been rooted) καὶ (and) ἐποικοδομούμενοι (being built up) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him), καὶ (and) βεβαιούμενοι (being strengthened in) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith) καθὼς (just as) ἐδιδάχθητε (you were taught), περισσεύοντες (abounding) ἐν (with) εὐχαριστίᾳ (thanksgiving).

¹² Μακάριος (Blessed is the) ἀνὴρ (man) ὃς (who) ὑπομένει (endures) πειρασμόν (trial), ὅτι (because) δόκιμος (approved) γενόμενος (having been), λήμψεται (he will receive) τὸν (the) στέφανον (crown) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) ὃν (that) ἐπηγγείλατο (He has promised) τοῖς (to those) ἀγαπῶσιν (loving) αὐτόν (Him).

⁵ τοὺς (who) ἐν (by) δυνάμει (the power) Θεοῦ (of God) φρουρουμένους (are being guarded) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith), εἰς (for) σωτηρίαν (the salvation) ἑτοίμην (ready) ἀποκαλυφθῆναι (to be revealed) ἐν (in) καιρῷ (the time) ἐσχάτῳ (last),

⁷ ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) δοκίμιον (proven genuineness) ὑμῶν (of your) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith), πολυτιμότερον (more precious) χρυσίου (than gold), τοῦ (-) ἀπολλυμένου (perishing), διὰ (by) πυρὸς (fire) δὲ (though) δοκιμαζομένου (being refined), εὑρεθῇ (may be discovered) εἰς (to result in) ἔπαινον (praise) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) ἐν (in) ἀποκαλύψει (the revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ),

¹⁹ ἐξ (From among) ἡμῶν (us) ἐξῆλθαν (they went out), ἀλλ’ (but) οὐκ (not) ἦσαν (they were) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us); εἰ (if) γὰρ (for) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us) ἦσαν (they had been), μεμενήκεισαν (they would have remained) ἂν (-) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us). ἀλλ’ (But) ἵνα (it is so that) φανερωθῶσιν (it might be made manifest) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (they are) πάντες (all) ἐξ (of) ἡμῶν (us).
