²² ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) Ἀρχέλαος (Archelaus) βασιλεύει (reigns over) τῆς (-) Ἰουδαίας (Judea) ἀντὶ (in place of) τοῦ (the) πατρὸς (father) αὐτοῦ (of him) Ἡρῴδου (Herod), ἐφοβήθη (he was afraid) ἐκεῖ (there) ἀπελθεῖν (to go); χρηματισθεὶς (having been divinely warned) δὲ (now) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream), ἀνεχώρησεν (he withdrew) εἰς (into) τὰ (the) μέρη (district) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee),

²⁰ Ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐνθυμηθέντος (having pondered), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) ἐφάνη (appeared) αὐτῷ (to him), λέγων (saying), “Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph), υἱὸς (son) Δαυίδ (of David), μὴ (not) φοβηθῇς (you should fear) παραλαβεῖν (to receive) Μαρίαν (Mary) τὴν (as the) γυναῖκά (wife) σου (of you); τὸ (that) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (her) γεννηθὲν (having been conceived), ἐκ (from) Πνεύματός (the Spirit) ἐστιν (is), Ἁγίου (Holy).

¹² Καὶ (And) χρηματισθέντες (having been divinely warned) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) μὴ (not) ἀνακάμψαι (to return) πρὸς (to) Ἡρῴδην (Herod), δι’ (by) ἄλλης (another) ὁδοῦ (route) ἀνεχώρησαν (they withdrew) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) χώραν (country) αὐτῶν (of them). ¹³ Ἀναχωρησάντων (Having withdrawn) δὲ (then) αὐτῶν (of them), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) κυρίου (of the Lord) φαίνεται (appears) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) τῷ (-) Ἰωσὴφ (to Joseph), λέγων (saying), “Ἐγερθεὶς (Having arisen), παράλαβε (take) τὸ (the) παιδίον (Child) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μητέρα (mother) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) φεῦγε (flee) εἰς (into) Αἴγυπτον (Egypt), καὶ (and) ἴσθι (remain) ἐκεῖ (there) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) εἴπω (I should tell) σοι (you); μέλλει (is about) γὰρ (for) Ἡρῴδης (Herod) ζητεῖν (to seek) τὸ (the) παιδίον (Child), τοῦ (-) ἀπολέσαι (to destroy) αὐτό (Him).”

¹⁹ Τελευτήσαντος (Having died) δὲ (now) τοῦ (-) Ἡρῴδου (of Herod), ἰδοὺ (behold), ἄγγελος (an angel) Κυρίου (of the Lord) φαίνεται (appears) κατ’ (in) ὄναρ (a dream) τῷ (to) Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph) ἐν (in) Αἰγύπτῳ (Egypt),

¹³ Τότε (Then) παραγίνεται (comes) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (the) Ἰορδάνην (Jordan), πρὸς (unto) τὸν (-) Ἰωάννην (John), τοῦ (-) βαπτισθῆναι (to be baptized) ὑπ’ (by) αὐτοῦ (him).

³⁹ Καὶ (And) ὡς (when) ἐτέλεσαν (they had performed) πάντα (everything) τὰ (-) κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) νόμον (law) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ἐπέστρεψαν (they returned) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) Γαλιλαίαν (Galilee), εἰς (to the) πόλιν (town) ἑαυτῶν (of them), Ναζαρέθ (Nazareth).

⁴¹ Ἄλλοι (Others) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ).” Οἱ (Others) δὲ (however) ἔλεγον (were saying), “Μὴ (Not) γὰρ (indeed) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἔρχεται (comes)? ⁴² οὐχ (Not) ἡ (the) γραφὴ (Scripture) εἶπεν (has said) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) σπέρματος (seed) Δαυὶδ (of David) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) Βηθλεὲμ (Bethlehem), τῆς (the) κώμης (village) ὅπου (where) ἦν (was) Δαυὶδ (David), ἔρχεται (comes) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)?”

⁵² Ἀπεκρίθησαν (They answered) καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Μὴ (Not) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) ἐκ (from) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) εἶ (are)? ἐραύνησον (Search) καὶ (and) ἴδε (see) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (Galilee) προφήτης (a prophet) οὐκ (not) ἐγείρεται (is raised).”

¹³ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) δὲ (but) Ἁνανίας (Ananias), “Κύριε (Lord), ἤκουσα (I have heard) ἀπὸ (from) πολλῶν (many) περὶ (concerning) τοῦ (the) ἀνδρὸς (man) τούτου (this), ὅσα (how many) κακὰ (evils) τοῖς (to) ἁγίοις (saints) σου (of You) ἐποίησεν (he did) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem); ¹⁴ καὶ (and) ὧδε (here) ἔχει (he has) ἐξουσίαν (authority) παρὰ (from) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests) δῆσαι (to bind) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) ἐπικαλουμένους (calling on) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) σου (of You).”
