²⁰ Καὶ (And) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Αἱ (-) ἀλώπεκες (Foxes) φωλεοὺς (holes) ἔχουσιν (have), καὶ (and) τὰ (the) πετεινὰ (birds) τοῦ (of the) οὐρανοῦ (air) κατασκηνώσεις (nests); ὁ (-) δὲ (but) Υἱὸς (the Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man), οὐκ (no) ἔχει (has) ποῦ (place where) τὴν (the) κεφαλὴν (head) κλίνῃ (He might lay).”

⁶ ἵνα (So that) δὲ (however) εἰδῆτε (you may know) ὅτι (that) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔχει (has) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ἀφιέναι (to forgive) ἁμαρτίας (sins)...” τότε (Then) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) παραλυτικῷ (paralytic), “Ἐγερθεὶς* (Having arisen), ἆρόν (take up) σου (your) τὴν (-) κλίνην (mat), καὶ (and) ὕπαγε (go) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) σου (of you).”

⁸ κύριος (Lord) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) τοῦ (of the) σαββάτου (Sabbath) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (of) ἀνθρώπου (Man).”

³² καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἐὰν (if) εἴπῃ (speaks) λόγον (a word) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man), ἀφεθήσεται (it will be forgiven) αὐτῷ (him); ὃς (whoever) δ’ (now) ἂν (-) εἴπῃ (speaks) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (-) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τοῦ (the) Ἁγίου (Holy), οὐκ (not) ἀφεθήσεται (it will be forgiven) αὐτῷ (him), οὔτε (neither) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) τῷ (-) αἰῶνι (age) οὔτε (nor) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) μέλλοντι (coming one).

⁴⁰ ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ἦν (was) Ἰωνᾶς (Jonah) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) κοιλίᾳ (belly) τοῦ (of the) κήτους (great fish) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights), οὕτως (so) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth) τρεῖς (three) ἡμέρας (days) καὶ (and) τρεῖς (three) νύκτας (nights).

³⁷ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) εἶπεν (He said), “Ὁ (The One) σπείρων (sowing) τὸ (the) καλὸν (good) σπέρμα (seed) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man);

⁴¹ ἀποστελεῖ (Will send forth) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) τοὺς (the) ἀγγέλους (angels) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) συλλέξουσιν (they will gather) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) σκάνδαλα (causes of sin) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ποιοῦντας (practicing) τὴν (-) ἀνομίαν (lawlessness),

²¹ Καὶ (And) ἐξελθὼν (having gone forth) ἐκεῖθεν (from there), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀνεχώρησεν (withdrew) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) μέρη (district) Τύρου (of Tyre) καὶ (and) Σιδῶνος (Sidon).

³¹ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἔλθῃ (comes) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) πάντες (all) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him), τότε (then) καθίσει (He will sit) ἐπὶ (upon the) θρόνου (throne) δόξης (of glory) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

²⁷ Καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (went forth) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) κώμας (villages) Καισαρείας (of Caesarea) τῆς (-) Φιλίππου (Philippi). καὶ (And) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (way), ἐπηρώτα (He was questioning) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), λέγων (saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τίνα (Whom) με (Me) λέγουσιν (do pronounce) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men) εἶναι (to be)?” ²⁸ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they answered) αὐτῷ (Him), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ἰωάννην (John) τὸν (the) Βαπτιστήν (Baptist); καὶ (and) ἄλλοι (others), Ἠλίαν (Elijah); ἄλλοι (others) δὲ (now) ὅτι (-), εἷς (one) τῶν (of the) προφητῶν (prophets).” ²⁹ Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He) ἐπηρώτα (was questioning) αὐτούς (them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however), τίνα (whom) με (Me) λέγετε (do pronounce) εἶναι (to be)?” Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering), ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ).”

³⁸ ὃς (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἐὰν (if) ἐπαισχυνθῇ (may be ashamed of) με (Me) καὶ (and) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) λόγους (words) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) γενεᾷ (generation) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (-) μοιχαλίδι (adulterous) καὶ (and) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinful), καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐπαισχυνθήσεται (will be ashamed of) αὐτὸν (him) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (He shall come) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) τοῦ (of the) Πατρὸς (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀγγέλων (angels) τῶν (-) ἁγίων (holy).”

⁴⁵ καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) οὐκ (not) ἦλθεν (came) διακονηθῆναι (to be served), ἀλλὰ (but) διακονῆσαι (to serve), καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) ψυχὴν (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him) λύτρον (as a ransom) ἀντὶ (for) πολλῶν (many).”

¹⁸ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) ἐν (as) τῷ (-) εἶναι (was) αὐτὸν (He) προσευχόμενον (praying) κατὰ (in) μόνας (solitary), συνῆσαν (were with) αὐτῷ (Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταί (disciples), καὶ (and) ἐπηρώτησεν (He questioned) αὐτοὺς (them), λέγων (saying), “Τίνα (Whom) με (Me) «οἱ (the) ὄχλοι» (crowds) λέγουσιν (do pronounce) εἶναι (to be)?” ¹⁹ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθέντες (answering), εἶπαν (they said), “Ἰωάννην (John) τὸν (the) Βαπτιστήν (Baptist); ἄλλοι (others) δὲ (also), Ἠλίαν (Elijah); ἄλλοι (others) δὲ (now), ὅτι (that) προφήτης (a prophet), τις (one) τῶν (of the) ἀρχαίων (ancients), ἀνέστη (has arisen).” ²⁰ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however), τίνα (whom) με (Me) λέγετε (do pronounce) εἶναι (to be)?” Πέτρος (Peter) δὲ (then) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) εἶπεν (said), “Τὸν (The) Χριστὸν (Christ) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

⁵¹ καὶ (And) λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to all of you), ὄψεσθε (you will see) τὸν (the) οὐρανὸν (heaven) ἀνεῳγότα (opened) καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἀγγέλους (angels) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἀναβαίνοντας (ascending) καὶ (and) καταβαίνοντας (descending) ἐπὶ (on) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).”

¹⁴ καὶ (And) καθὼς (as) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) ὕψωσεν (lifted up) τὸν (the) ὄφιν (serpent) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness), οὕτως (thus) ὑψωθῆναι (to be lifted up) δεῖ (it behooves) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man),

²⁷ καὶ (And) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔδωκεν (He gave) αὐτῷ (Him) κρίσιν (judgment) ποιεῖν (to execute), ὅτι (because) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐστίν (He is).

³⁴ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) οὖν (then) αὐτῷ (Him) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd), “Ἡμεῖς (We) ἠκούσαμεν (have heard) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Χριστὸς (Christ) μένει (abides) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), καὶ (and) πῶς (how) λέγεις (say) σὺ (you) ὅτι (that) δεῖ (it behooves) ὑψωθῆναι (to be lifted up) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man)? τίς (Who) ἐστιν (is) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man)?”

⁵⁶ καὶ (and) εἶπεν (he said), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), θεωρῶ (I see) τοὺς (the) οὐρανοὺς (heavens) διηνοιγμένους (having been opened), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand) ἑστῶτα (standing) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).”

³⁸ Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) τὸν (-) ἀπὸ (from) Ναζαρέθ (Nazareth), ὡς (how) ἔχρισεν (anointed) αὐτὸν (Him) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (with Holy) καὶ (and) δυνάμει (with power), ὃς (who) διῆλθεν (went about) εὐεργετῶν (doing good) καὶ (and) ἰώμενος (healing) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) καταδυναστευομένους (being oppressed) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil), ὅτι (because) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἦν (was) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him).

¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery). ¹⁶ Οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) δή‿ (surely) που (in that place) ἀγγέλων (the angels) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps), ἀλλὰ (but) σπέρματος (the seed) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham) ἐπιλαμβάνεται (He helps). ¹⁷ ὅθεν (Therefore) ὤφειλεν (it behooved Him) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (His) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers) ὁμοιωθῆναι (to be made like), ἵνα (so that) ἐλεήμων (a merciful) γένηται (He might become), καὶ (and) πιστὸς (faithful), ἀρχιερεὺς (high priest) τὰ (in things) πρὸς (relating to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ἱλάσκεσθαι (to make propitiation for) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people). ¹⁸ ἐν (In) ᾧ (that) γὰρ (for) πέπονθεν (has suffered) αὐτὸς (He Himself), πειρασθείς (having been tempted), δύναται (He is able) τοῖς (those) πειραζομένοις (being tempted) βοηθῆσαι (to help).
