⁴² Καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) σκανδαλίσῃ (might cause to stumble) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (these) τῶν (-) πιστευόντων (believing) ‹εἰς (in) ἐμέ› (Me), καλόν (better) ἐστιν (it is) αὐτῷ (for him) μᾶλλον (rather) εἰ (if) περίκειται (is put) μύλος (a millstone) ὀνικὸς (heavy) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) βέβληται (he has been cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea).

⁶ Ὃς (Whoever) δ’ (then) ἂν (-) σκανδαλίσῃ (shall cause to stumble) ἕνα (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these) τῶν (-) πιστευόντων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me), συμφέρει (it is better) αὐτῷ (for him) ἵνα (that) κρεμασθῇ (should be hung) μύλος (a millstone) ὀνικὸς (heavy) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) καταποντισθῇ (he be sunk) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πελάγει (depth) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea).

¹⁰ Ὁρᾶτε (See that) μὴ (not) καταφρονήσητε (you despise) ἑνὸς (one) τῶν (of the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these). λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) διὰ (continually) παντὸς (always) βλέπουσι (behold) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens).

⁴⁵ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσεται (will He answer) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (that) οὐκ (not) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), οὐδὲ (neither) ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (did you).’ ⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) ἀπελεύσονται (will go away) οὗτοι (these) εἰς (into) κόλασιν (punishment) αἰώνιον (eternal); οἱ (-) δὲ (but) δίκαιοι (the righteous) εἰς (into) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).”

¹ Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Ἀνένδεκτόν (Impossible) ἐστιν (it is) τοῦ (for) τὰ (the) σκάνδαλα (stumbling blocks) μὴ (not) ἐλθεῖν (to come), πλὴν* (but) οὐαὶ (woe to him) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) ἔρχεται (they come)! ² λυσιτελεῖ (It is better) αὐτῷ (for him) εἰ (if) λίθος (a stone) μυλικὸς (of a mill) περίκειται (is hung) περὶ (around) τὸν (the) τράχηλον (neck) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἔρριπται (he is thrown) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), ἢ (than) ἵνα (that) σκανδαλίσῃ (he should cause to stumble) τῶν (-) μικρῶν (little) τούτων (of these) ἕνα (one).

⁴ καὶ (And) πεσὼν (having fallen) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἤκουσεν (he heard) φωνὴν (a voice) λέγουσαν (saying) αὐτῷ (to him), “Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (do you persecute)?”

¹¹ καὶ (And) κατὰ (in) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) συναγωγὰς (synagogues), πολλάκις (often) τιμωρῶν (punishing) αὐτοὺς (them), ἠνάγκαζον (I was compelling them) βλασφημεῖν (to blaspheme). περισσῶς (Exceedingly) τε (then) ἐμμαινόμενος (being furious) αὐτοῖς (against them), ἐδίωκον (I kept persecuting them) ἕως (as far as) καὶ (even) εἰς (to) τὰς (-) ἔξω (foreign) πόλεις (cities), ¹² Ἐν (during) οἷς (which), πορευόμενος (journeying) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) Δαμασκὸν (Damascus) μετ’ (with) ἐξουσίας (the authority) καὶ (and) ἐπιτροπῆς (commission) τῆς (of) τῶν (the) ἀρχιερέων (chief priests), ¹³ ἡμέρας (day) μέσης (mid) κατὰ (on) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (road) εἶδον (I saw), βασιλεῦ (O king), οὐρανόθεν (from heaven) ὑπὲρ (above), τὴν (the) λαμπρότητα (brightness) τοῦ (of the) ἡλίου (sun), περιλάμψαν (having shone around) με (me), φῶς (a light); καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) σὺν (with) ἐμοὶ (me) πορευομένους (journeying). ¹⁴ πάντων (All) τε (and) καταπεσόντων (having fallen down) ἡμῶν (of us) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (ground), ἤκουσα (I heard) φωνὴν (a voice) λέγουσαν (saying) πρός (to) με (me) τῇ (in the) Ἑβραΐδι (Hebrew) διαλέκτῳ (language), ‘Σαοὺλ (Saul), Σαούλ (Saul), τί (why) με (Me) διώκεις (persecute you)? σκληρόν (It is hard) σοι (for you) πρὸς (against) κέντρα (the goads) λακτίζειν (to kick).’

¹³ Μηκέτι (No longer) οὖν (therefore) ἀλλήλους (one another) κρίνωμεν (should we judge); ἀλλὰ (but) τοῦτο (this) κρίνατε (determine) μᾶλλον (rather), τὸ (-) μὴ (not) τιθέναι (to put) πρόσκομμα (any stumbling block) τῷ (before your) ἀδελφῷ (brother), ἢ (or) σκάνδαλον (snare).

²¹ ἀλλὰ (Rather), καθὼς (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ὄψονται (They will see), «οἷς (to whom) οὐκ (not) ἀνηγγέλη (it was proclaimed) περὶ (concerning) αὐτοῦ» (Him); καὶ (and) οἳ (those that) οὐκ (not) ἀκηκόασιν (have heard) συνήσουσιν (will understand).”

¹⁷ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σκοπεῖν (to watch out for) τοὺς (those) τὰς (-) διχοστασίας (divisions) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) σκάνδαλα (obstacles) παρὰ (contrary to) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) ἣν (that) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐμάθετε (have learned) ποιοῦντας (causing), καὶ (and) ἐκκλίνετε (turn away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).

¹⁰ ἐὰν (If) γάρ (for) τις (anyone) ἴδῃ (sees) σὲ (you), τὸν (-) ἔχοντα (having) γνῶσιν (knowledge), ἐν (in) εἰδωλείῳ (an idol’s temple) κατακείμενον (eating), οὐχὶ (not) ἡ (the) συνείδησις (conscience) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀσθενοῦς (weak) ὄντος (being), οἰκοδομηθήσεται (will be built up), εἰς (so as) τὸ (the) τὰ (things) εἰδωλόθυτα (sacrificed to idols) ἐσθίειν (to eat)? ¹¹ ἀπόλλυται (Is destroyed) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἀσθενῶν (being weak) ἐν (through) τῇ (-) σῇ (your) γνώσει (knowledge), ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) δι’ (for) ὃν (whom) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died). ¹² οὕτως (Thus) δὲ (then) ἁμαρτάνοντες (sinning) εἰς (against) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) καὶ (and) τύπτοντες (wounding) αὐτῶν (their) τὴν (-) συνείδησιν (conscience) ἀσθενοῦσαν (being weak), εἰς (against) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἁμαρτάνετε (you sin). ¹³ Διόπερ (Therefore) εἰ (if) βρῶμα (food) σκανδαλίζει (snares) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) μου (of me), οὐ (never) μὴ (not) φάγω (shall I eat) κρέα (meat) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) τὸν (the) ἀδελφόν (brother) μου (of me) σκανδαλίσω (I might snare).

³² ἀπρόσκοποι (Without offense) καὶ (both) Ἰουδαίοις (to Jews) γίνεσθε (be you), καὶ (and) Ἕλλησιν (Greeks), καὶ (and) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) — ³³ καθὼς (as) κἀγὼ (I also) πάντα (all) πᾶσιν (in all things) ἀρέσκω (please), μὴ (not) ζητῶν (seeking) τὸ (the) ἐμαυτοῦ (of myself) σύμφορον (profit), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (that) τῶν (of the) πολλῶν (many), ἵνα (that) σωθῶσιν (they may be saved).

³ Μηδεμίαν (Nothing) ἐν (before) μηδενὶ (no one) διδόντες (placing) προσκοπήν (an obstacle), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) μωμηθῇ (should be blemished) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry),

¹⁰ εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to approve) ὑμᾶς (you) τὰ (the things) διαφέροντα (being excellent), ἵνα (so that) ἦτε (you may be) εἰλικρινεῖς (pure) καὶ (and) ἀπρόσκοποι (blameless) εἰς (unto) ἡμέραν (the day) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

⁶ εἴπερ (For indeed) δίκαιον (righteous it is) παρὰ (with) Θεῷ (God) ἀνταποδοῦναι (to repay) τοῖς (those) θλίβουσιν (oppressing) ὑμᾶς (you) θλῖψιν (with affliction), ⁷ καὶ (and) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (-) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed), ἄνεσιν (repose) μεθ’ (with) ἡμῶν (us) ἐν (at) τῇ (the) ἀποκαλύψει (revelation) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), μετ’ (with) ἀγγέλων (the angels) δυνάμεως (mighty) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ⁸ ἐν (in) πυρὶ (a fire) φλογός (of flame), διδόντος (inflicting) ἐκδίκησιν (vengeance) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) εἰδόσιν (knowing) Θεὸν (God) καὶ (and) τοῖς (on those) μὴ (not) ὑπακούουσιν (obeying) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ⁹ οἵτινες (who) δίκην (the penalty) τίσουσιν (will suffer) ὄλεθρον (of destruction) αἰώνιον (eternal), ἀπὸ (away from) προσώπου (the presence) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) δόξης (glory) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

¹⁴ Βούλομαι (I want) οὖν (therefore) νεωτέρας (the younger ones) γαμεῖν (to marry), τεκνογονεῖν (to bear children), οἰκοδεσποτεῖν (to manage their households), μηδεμίαν (no) ἀφορμὴν (occasion) διδόναι (to give) τῷ (the one) ἀντικειμένῳ (opposing) λοιδορίας (of reproach) χάριν (on account).

² καὶ (And) πολλοὶ (many) ἐξακολουθήσουσιν (will follow after) αὐτῶν (their) ταῖς (-) ἀσελγείαις (sensuality), δι’ (through) οὓς (whom) ἡ (the) ὁδὸς (way) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) βλασφημηθήσεται (will be maligned).

⁹ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἤνοιξεν (He opened) τὴν (the) πέμπτην (fifth) σφραγῖδα (seal), εἶδον (I saw) ὑποκάτω (under) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) τῶν (of those) ἐσφαγμένων (having been slain) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) ἣν (which) εἶχον (they had upheld). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) ἔκραξαν (they were crying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἕως (Until) πότε (when), ὁ (O) Δεσπότης (Lord), ὁ (-) ἅγιος (holy) καὶ (and) ἀληθινός (true), οὐ (not) κρίνεις (do You judge), καὶ (and) ἐκδικεῖς (avenge) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐκ (from) τῶν (those) κατοικούντων (dwelling) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth)?”

⁶ ὅτι (because) αἷμα (the blood) ἁγίων (of saints) καὶ (and) προφητῶν (of prophets) ἐξέχεαν (they have poured out), καὶ (and) αἷμα (blood) αὐτοῖς (to them) δέδωκας (You have given) πιεῖν* (to drink); ἄξιοί (worthy) εἰσιν (they are).” ⁷ Καὶ (And) ἤκουσα (I heard) τοῦ (the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) λέγοντος (saying): “Ναί (Yes), Κύριε (Lord) ὁ (-) Θεός (God) ὁ (-) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty), ἀληθιναὶ (true) καὶ (and) δίκαιαι (righteous are) αἱ (the) κρίσεις (judgments) σου (of You).”
