³⁵ ἐξῆλθον (They went out) δὲ (then) ἰδεῖν (to see) τὸ (that) γεγονὸς (having taken place), καὶ (and) ἦλθον (they came) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found) καθήμενον (sitting) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἀφ’ (from) οὗ (whom) τὰ (the) δαιμόνια (demons) ἐξῆλθεν (had gone out), ἱματισμένον (clothed) καὶ (and) σωφρονοῦντα (being of sound mind), παρὰ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). καὶ (And) ἐφοβήθησαν (they were afraid).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) ἔρχονται (they come) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) καὶ (and) θεωροῦσιν (see) τὸν (the man) δαιμονιζόμενον (possessed by demons) καθήμενον (sitting), ἱματισμένον (clothed) καὶ (and) σωφρονοῦντα (sound minded), τὸν (the one) ἐσχηκότα (having had) τὸν (the) λεγιῶνα (legion); καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they were afraid).

⁴⁶ Καὶ (And) ἐγένετο (it came to pass) μετὰ (after) ἡμέρας (days) τρεῖς (three), εὗρον (they found) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), καθεζόμενον (sitting) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) διδασκάλων (teachers), καὶ (both) ἀκούοντα (hearing) αὐτῶν (them) καὶ (and) ἐπερωτῶντα (questioning) αὐτούς (them).

²⁷ ἐξελθόντι (Having gone forth) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (He) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), ὑπήντησεν (met Him) ἀνήρ (a man) τις (certain) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city), ἔχων (having) δαιμόνια (demons), καὶ (and) χρόνῳ (time) ἱκανῷ (a long) οὐκ (not) ἐνεδύσατο (was wearing) ἱμάτιον (clothing), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) οἰκίᾳ (a house) οὐκ (not) ἔμενεν (did abide), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μνήμασιν (tombs).

³⁹ καὶ (And) τῇδε (she) ἦν (had) ἀδελφὴ (a sister) καλουμένη (called) Μαριάμ (Mary), ἣ (who) καὶ (also) παρακαθεσθεῖσα (having sat down) πρὸς (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord), ἤκουεν (was listening to) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

¹⁷ Εἰς (To) ἑαυτὸν (himself) δὲ (however) ἐλθὼν (having come), ἔφη (he was saying), ‘Πόσοι (How many) μίσθιοι (hired servants) τοῦ (of the) πατρός (father) μου (of me) περισσεύονται (have abundance) ἄρτων (of bread), ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) λιμῷ (with hunger) ὧδε (here) ἀπόλλυμαι (am perishing)?

³ “Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ἀνὴρ (a man), Ἰουδαῖος (a Jew), γεγεννημένος (born) ἐν (in) Ταρσῷ (Tarsus) τῆς (-) Κιλικίας (of Cilicia), ἀνατεθραμμένος (brought up) δὲ (now) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ταύτῃ (this) παρὰ (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) Γαμαλιήλ (of Gamaliel), πεπαιδευμένος (having been instructed) κατὰ (according to the) ἀκρίβειαν (exactness) τοῦ (of the) πατρῴου (of our Fathers) νόμου (law), ζηλωτὴς (a zealous one) ὑπάρχων (being) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (for God), καθὼς (even as) πάντες (all) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐστε (are) σήμερον (this day);

¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil), ¹⁵ καὶ (and) ἀπαλλάξῃ (might set free) τούτους (those) ὅσοι (who) φόβῳ (fear) θανάτου (of death) διὰ (through) παντὸς (all) τοῦ (their time) ζῆν (to live), ἔνοχοι (subject) ἦσαν (were) δουλείας (to slavery).

⁸ ὁ (The one) ποιῶν (practicing) τὴν (-) ἁμαρτίαν (sin), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil) ἐστίν (is), ὅτι (because) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil) ἁμαρτάνει (has been sinning). εἰς (For) τοῦτο (this reason) ἐφανερώθη (was revealed) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (so that) λύσῃ (He might destroy) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil).
