⁴ ἀλλὰ (But) ταῦτα (these things) λελάληκα (I have said) ὑμῖν (to you), ἵνα (so that) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (might have come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour) αὐτῶν (of them), μνημονεύητε (you may remember) αὐτῶν (them), ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) εἶπον (said them) ὑμῖν (to you). ταῦτα (These things) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐξ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning) οὐκ (not) εἶπον (I said), ὅτι (because) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) ἤμην (I was).

¹⁵ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) δύνανται (can) οἱ (the) υἱοὶ (sons) τοῦ (of the) νυμφῶνος (bridechamber) πενθεῖν (mourn) ἐφ’ (as) ὅσον (long as) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom)? ἐλεύσονται (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέραι (days) ὅταν (when) ἀπαρθῇ (shall have been taken away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom), καὶ (and) τότε (then) νηστεύσουσιν (they will fast).

⁷ πορευόμενοι (Going on) δὲ (also) κηρύσσετε (proclaim), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (-), ‘Ἤγγικεν (Has drawn near) ἡ (The) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens).’

²⁵ ἰδοὺ (Behold), προείρηκα (I have foretold it) ὑμῖν (to you).

¹⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Μὴ (Not) δύνανται (are able) οἱ (the) υἱοὶ (sons) τοῦ (of the) νυμφῶνος (bridechamber), ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ὁ (the) νυμφίος (bridegroom) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them) ἐστιν (is), νηστεύειν (to fast)? ὅσον (As long as) χρόνον (time) ἔχουσιν (they have) τὸν (the) νυμφίον (bridegroom) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), οὐ (not) δύνανται (they are able) νηστεύειν (to fast).

²³ ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) βλέπετε (take heed); προείρηκα (I have foretold) ὑμῖν (to you) πάντα (all things).

¹² Πρὸ (Before) δὲ (however) τούτων (these things) πάντων (all), ἐπιβαλοῦσιν (they will lay) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) διώξουσιν (will persecute you), παραδιδόντες (delivering you) εἰς (to) τὰς (the) συναγωγὰς (synagogues) καὶ (and) φυλακάς (prisons), ἀπαγομένους (bringing you) ἐπὶ (before) βασιλεῖς (kings) καὶ (and) ἡγεμόνας (governors) ἕνεκεν (on account of) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματός (name) μου (of Me). ¹³ ἀποβήσεται (It will result) ὑμῖν (to you) εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony).

¹⁹ ἀπ’ (From) ἄρτι (this time) λέγω (I am telling) ὑμῖν (you) πρὸ (before) τοῦ (-) γενέσθαι (it comes to pass), ἵνα (so that) πιστεύσητε* (you should believe) ὅταν (when) γένηται (it comes to pass), ὅτι (that) ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He).

²⁹ καὶ (And) νῦν (now) εἴρηκα (I have told) ὑμῖν (you) πρὶν (before) γενέσθαι (it comes to pass), ἵνα (that) ὅταν (when) γένηται (it shall have come to pass), πιστεύσητε (you might believe).

¹² ὅτε (When) ἤμην (I was) μετ’ (with) αὐτῶν (them), ἐγὼ (I) ἐτήρουν (was keeping) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) σου (of You), ᾧ (which) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me). καὶ (And) ἐφύλαξα (I guarded them), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (none) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἀπώλετο (has perished), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) τῆς (-) ἀπωλείας (of destruction), ἵνα (that) ἡ (the) γραφὴ (Scripture) πληρωθῇ (might be fulfilled). ¹³ Νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) πρὸς (to) σὲ (You) ἔρχομαι (I am coming); καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these things) λαλῶ (I speak) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world), ἵνα (so that) ἔχωσιν (they may have) τὴν (-) χαρὰν (joy) τὴν (-) ἐμὴν (My) πεπληρωμένην (fulfilled) ἐν (within) ἑαυτοῖς (them).

¹⁶ ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) ὑποδείξω (will show) αὐτῷ (to him) ὅσα (how much) δεῖ (it behooves) αὐτὸν (him) ὑπὲρ (for) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματός (name) μου (of Me) παθεῖν (to suffer).”

²³ πλὴν (except) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy) κατὰ (in every) πόλιν (city) διαμαρτύρεταί (fully testifies) μοι (to me), λέγον (saying) ὅτι (that) δεσμὰ (chains) καὶ (and) θλίψεις (tribulations) με (me) μένουσιν (await). ²⁴ ἀλλ’ (But) οὐδενὸς (not any) λόγου (account) ποιοῦμαι (I make) τὴν (my) ψυχὴν (life) τιμίαν (dear) ἐμαυτῷ (to myself), ὡς (so as) τελειῶσαι* (to finish) τὸν (the) δρόμον (course) μου (of me), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) διακονίαν (ministry) ἣν (that) ἔλαβον (I received) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), διαμαρτύρασθαι (to testify fully) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (grace) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁴ εἰδὼς (knowing) ὅτι (that) ταχινή (impending) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἀπόθεσις (putting off) τοῦ (of the) σκηνώματός (tabernacle) μου (of me), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐδήλωσέν (has made clear) μοι (to me).
