¹⁶ Κἀγὼ (And I) ἐρωτήσω (will ask) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), καὶ (and) ἄλλον (another) Παράκλητον (Helper) δώσει (He will give) ὑμῖν (you), ἵνα (that) ᾖ (He may be) «μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα» (age),

²³ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) με (Me), τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) τηρήσει (he will keep), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) ἀγαπήσει (will love) αὐτόν (him), καὶ (and) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him) ἐλευσόμεθα (we will come), καὶ (and) μονὴν (a home) παρ’ (with) αὐτῷ (him) ποιησόμεθα (will make).

²⁶ Ὅταν (When) ἔλθῃ (comes) ὁ (the) Παράκλητος (Helper), ὃν (whom) ἐγὼ (I) πέμψω (will send) ὑμῖν (to you) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father), τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth), ὃ (who) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) ἐκπορεύεται (goes forth), ἐκεῖνος (He) μαρτυρήσει (will bear witness) περὶ (concerning) ἐμοῦ (Me).

¹³ ὅταν (When) δὲ (however) ἔλθῃ (shall come) ἐκεῖνος (He), τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth), ὁδηγήσει (He will guide) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν* (into) τῇ* (the) ἀληθείᾳ* (truth) πάσῃ* (all); οὐ (not) γὰρ (for) λαλήσει (He will speak) ἀφ’ (from) ἑαυτοῦ (Himself), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅσα (whatever) ἀκούσει* (He may hear), λαλήσει (He will speak); καὶ (and) τὰ (the things) ἐρχόμενα (coming) ἀναγγελεῖ (He will declare) ὑμῖν (to you).

⁹ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (now) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (are) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (flesh), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (Spirit), εἴπερ (if indeed the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) οἰκεῖ (dwells) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you); εἰ (if) δέ (however) τις (anyone) Πνεῦμα (the Spirit) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has), οὗτος (he) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ¹⁰ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐν (is in) ὑμῖν (you), τὸ (the) μὲν (indeed) σῶμα (body is) νεκρὸν (dead) διὰ (on account of) ἁμαρτίαν (sin), τὸ (the) δὲ (however) πνεῦμα (Spirit) ζωὴ (is life) διὰ (on account of) δικαιοσύνην (righteousness). ¹¹ εἰ (If) δὲ (now) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (of the One) ἐγείραντος (having raised up) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) οἰκεῖ (dwells) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ὁ (the One) ἐγείρας (having raised up) «ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν» (the dead) Χριστὸν (Christ) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ζωοποιήσει (will give life) καὶ (also) τὰ (to the) θνητὰ (mortal) σώματα (bodies) ὑμῶν (of you), διὰ (on account of) τοῦ (-) ἐνοικοῦντος (dwelling) αὐτοῦ (His) Πνεύματος (Spirit) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you).

¹³ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) ζῆτε (you live), μέλλετε (you are about) ἀποθνήσκειν (to die); εἰ (if) δὲ (however) πνεύματι (by the Spirit) τὰς (the) πράξεις (deeds) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) θανατοῦτε (you put to death), ζήσεσθε (you will live). ¹⁴ ὅσοι (As many as) γὰρ (for) Πνεύματι (by the Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) ἄγονται (are led), οὗτοι (these) υἱοί (sons) εἰσιν (are) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁴ Ψυχικὸς (The natural) δὲ (however) ἄνθρωπος (man) οὐ (not) δέχεται (accepts) τὰ (the things) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God); μωρία (foolishness) γὰρ (for) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐστίν (they are), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) δύναται (he is able) γνῶναι (to understand them), ὅτι (because) πνευματικῶς (spiritually) ἀνακρίνεται (they are discerned).

¹⁶ Οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ναὸς (temple) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐστε (you yourselves are), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) «ἐν (in) ὑμῖν» (you) οἰκεῖ (dwells)?

¹⁹ ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) ὑμῶν (of you) ναὸς (a temple) τοῦ (of the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) Ἁγίου (Holy) Πνεύματός (Spirit) ἐστιν (is), οὗ (whom) ἔχετε (you have) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God)? καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (you are) ἑαυτῶν (your own),

¹⁵ Τί (What) οὖν (then) ἐστιν (is it)? προσεύξομαι (I will pray) τῷ (with the) πνεύματι (spirit), προσεύξομαι (I will pray) δὲ (however) καὶ (also) τῷ (with the) νοΐ (mind). ψαλῶ (I will sing praise) τῷ (with the) πνεύματι (spirit), ψαλῶ (I will sing praise) δὲ (however) καὶ (also) τῷ (with the) νοΐ (mind).

¹⁶ τίς (What) δὲ (now) συνκατάθεσις (agreement) ναῷ (the temple) Θεοῦ (of God) μετὰ (with) εἰδώλων (idols)? ἡμεῖς (We) γὰρ (for) ναὸς (the temple) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐσμεν (are), ζῶντος (the living), καθὼς (as) εἶπεν (has said) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ὅτι (-): “Ἐνοικήσω (I will dwell) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them), καὶ (and) ἐμπεριπατήσω* (will walk among them); καὶ (and) ἔσομαι (I will be) αὐτῶν (their) Θεός (God), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) ἔσονταί (will be) μου (to Me) λαός (a people).”

⁵ Ἑαυτοὺς (Yourselves) πειράζετε (examine) εἰ (whether) ἐστὲ (you are) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith); ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) δοκιμάζετε (test). ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) ἐπιγινώσκετε (do you recognize) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ is) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), εἰ (if) μήτι (not) ἀδόκιμοί (unapproved) ἐστε (you are)?

⁶ Ὅτι (Because) δέ (now) ἐστε (you are) υἱοί (sons), ἐξαπέστειλεν (sent forth) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us), κρᾶζον (crying out), “Ἀββᾶ (Abba), ὁ (-) Πατήρ (Father)!”

²² ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) συνοικοδομεῖσθε (are being built together) εἰς (for) κατοικητήριον (a habitation) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit).

¹⁷ κατοικῆσαι (for to dwell) τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐν (in) ἀγάπῃ (love) ἐρριζωμένοι (being rooted) καὶ (and) τεθεμελιωμένοι (being founded),

²⁷ οἷς (to whom) ἠθέλησεν (has willed) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) γνωρίσαι (to make known) τί (what is) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (of the) μυστηρίου (mystery) τούτου (this) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), ὅ* (which) ἐστιν (is) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory),

¹⁴ τὴν (The) καλὴν (good) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted to you) φύλαξον (keep), διὰ (by) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), τοῦ (the One) ἐνοικοῦντος (dwelling) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us).

²⁷ καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you), τὸ (the) χρῖσμα (anointing) ὃ (that) ἐλάβετε (you received) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him), μένει (abides) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) χρείαν (need) ἔχετε (you have) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) διδάσκῃ (should teach) ὑμᾶς (you). ἀλλ’ (But) ὡς (just as) τὸ (the) αὐτοῦ (same) χρῖσμα (anointing) διδάσκει (teaches) ὑμᾶς (you) περὶ (concerning) πάντων (all things), καὶ (and) ἀληθές (true) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ψεῦδος (a lie); καὶ (and) καθὼς (just as) ἐδίδαξεν (it has taught) ὑμᾶς (you), μένετε (you shall abide) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him).

²⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (the one) τηρῶν (keeping) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (He) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him). καὶ (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) μένει (He abides) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us), ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) οὗ (whom) ἡμῖν (to us) ἔδωκεν (He has given).

⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστε (are), τεκνία (little children), καὶ (and) νενικήκατε (have overcome) αὐτούς (them), ὅτι (because) μείζων (greater) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (the One) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) ἢ (than) ὁ (the one) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world).

⁶ ἡμεῖς (We) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐσμεν (are). ὁ (The one) γινώσκων (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἀκούει (listens to) ἡμῶν (us). ὃς (He who) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), οὐκ (not) ἀκούει (listens to) ἡμῶν (us). ἐκ (By) τούτου (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (Spirit) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) τῆς (-) πλάνης (of falsehood).

¹² Θεὸν (God) οὐδεὶς (no one) πώποτε (at any time) τεθέαται (has seen); ἐὰν (if) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) μένει (abides) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἀγάπη (love) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τετελειωμένη (having been perfected) «ἐν (in) ἡμῖν» (us) ἐστιν (is). ¹³ ἐν (By) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) μένομεν (we abide), καὶ (and) αὐτὸς (He) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us), ὅτι (because) ἐκ (from out) τοῦ (the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) αὐτοῦ (of Him) δέδωκεν (He has given) ἡμῖν (to us).

⁷ ὅτι (For) τρεῖς (three) εἰσιν (there are) οἱ (-) μαρτυροῦντες (bearing testimony):

¹⁷ Ὁ (The one) ἔχων (having) οὖς (an ear), ἀκουσάτω (let him hear) τί (what) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) λέγει (says) ταῖς (to the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches). Τῷ (The one) νικῶντι (overcoming), δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) τοῦ (the) μάννα (manna) τοῦ (-) κεκρυμμένου (having been hidden); καὶ (and) δώσω (I will give) αὐτῷ (to him) ψῆφον (stone) λευκήν (white), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) ψῆφον (stone) ὄνομα (a name) καινὸν (new) γεγραμμένον (having been written), ὃ (which) οὐδεὶς (no one) οἶδεν (has known), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the one) λαμβάνων (receiving it).
