² Ἀλλήλων (One another’s) τὰ (-) βάρη (burdens) βαστάζετε (bear you), καὶ (and) οὕτως (thus) ἀναπληρώσετε (you shall fulfill) τὸν (the) νόμον (law) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ).

¹⁷ ὅπως (so that) πληρωθῇ (it might be fulfilled) τὸ (that) ῥηθὲν (having been spoken) διὰ (by) Ἠσαΐου (Isaiah) τοῦ (the) προφήτου (prophet), λέγοντος (saying), “Αὐτὸς (Himself) τὰς (the) ἀσθενείας (infirmities) ἡμῶν (of us) ἔλαβεν (He took), καὶ (and) τὰς (our) νόσους (diseases) ἐβάστασεν (bore).”

²⁹ ἄρατε (Take) τὸν (the) ζυγόν (yoke) μου (of Me) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (and) μάθετε (learn) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (Me), ὅτι (for) πραΰς (gentle) εἰμι (I am) καὶ (and) ταπεινὸς (humble) τῇ (in the) καρδίᾳ (heart), καὶ (and) εὑρήσετε (you will find) ἀνάπαυσιν (rest) ταῖς (for the) ψυχαῖς (souls) ὑμῶν (of you). ³⁰ ὁ (The) γὰρ (for) ζυγός (yoke) μου (of Me) χρηστὸς (is easy), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) φορτίον (burden) μου (of Me) ἐλαφρόν (light) ἐστιν (is).”

⁴⁶ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Καὶ (Also) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (the) νομικοῖς (lawyers), οὐαί (woe)! ὅτι (For) φορτίζετε (you burden) τοὺς (the) ἀνθρώπους (men) φορτία (with burdens) δυσβάστακτα (heavy to bear), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (yourselves) ἑνὶ (with one) τῶν (of the) δακτύλων (fingers) ὑμῶν (of you), οὐ (not) προσψαύετε (do touch) τοῖς (the) φορτίοις (burdens).

¹⁴ εἰ (If) οὖν (therefore) ἐγὼ (I) ἔνιψα (have washed) ὑμῶν (your) τοὺς (-) πόδας (feet), ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Διδάσκαλος (Teacher), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ὀφείλετε (ought) ἀλλήλων (of one another) νίπτειν (to wash) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet). ¹⁵ ὑπόδειγμα (A pattern) γὰρ (for) ἔδωκα (I gave) ὑμῖν (you), ἵνα (that) καθὼς (as) ἐγὼ (I) ἐποίησα (did) ὑμῖν (to you), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ποιῆτε (should do).

³⁴ Ἐντολὴν (A commandment) καινὴν (new) δίδωμι (I give) ὑμῖν (to you), ἵνα (that) ἀγαπᾶτε (you should love) ἀλλήλους (one another); καθὼς (as) ἠγάπησα (I have loved) ὑμᾶς (you), ἵνα (so) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ἀγαπᾶτε (should love) ἀλλήλους (one another).

¹² Αὕτη (This) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (-) ἐντολὴ (commandment) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (My), ἵνα (that) ἀγαπᾶτε (you love) ἀλλήλους (one another) καθὼς (as) ἠγάπησα (I loved) ὑμᾶς (you).

² ὁ (-) γὰρ (For) νόμος (the law) τοῦ (of the) Πνεύματος (Spirit) τῆς (of) ζωῆς (life) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) ἠλευθέρωσέν (has set free) σε (you) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin) καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death).

¹ Ὀφείλομεν (We ought) δὲ (now), ἡμεῖς (we) οἱ (who are) δυνατοὶ (strong), τὰ (the) ἀσθενήματα (weaknesses) τῶν (of the) ἀδυνάτων (weak) βαστάζειν (to bear), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἑαυτοῖς (ourselves) ἀρέσκειν (to please).

²¹ τοῖς (To those) ἀνόμοις (outside the Law), ὡς (like) ἄνομος (outside the Law)— μὴ (not) ὢν (being) ἄνομος (outside the law) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔννομος (under the law) Χριστοῦ (to Christ)— ἵνα (so that) κερδάνω (I might win) τοὺς (those) ἀνόμους (outside the Law).

¹³ Ὑμεῖς (You) γὰρ (for) ἐπ’ (to) ἐλευθερίᾳ (freedom) ἐκλήθητε (were called), ἀδελφοί (brothers); μόνον (but) μὴ (not) τὴν (the) ἐλευθερίαν (freedom) εἰς (for) ἀφορμὴν (an opportunity) τῇ (to the) σαρκί (flesh). ἀλλὰ (Rather) διὰ (through) τῆς (-) ἀγάπης (love), δουλεύετε (serve) ἀλλήλοις (one another). ¹⁴ ὁ (-) γὰρ (For) πᾶς (the entire) νόμος (Law) ἐν (in) ἑνὶ (one) λόγῳ (word) πεπλήρωται (is fulfilled) ἐν (in) τῷ (this): “Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself).”

⁵ ἕκαστος (Each) γὰρ (for) τὸ (-) ἴδιον (his own) φορτίον (load) βαστάσει (shall bear).

¹⁴ Παρακαλοῦμεν (We exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), νουθετεῖτε (to admonish) τοὺς (the) ἀτάκτους (unruly), παραμυθεῖσθε (encourage) τοὺς (the) ὀλιγοψύχους (fainthearted), ἀντέχεσθε (help) τῶν (the) ἀσθενῶν (weak), μακροθυμεῖτε (be patient) πρὸς (toward) πάντας (all).

⁸ Εἰ (If) μέντοι (indeed) νόμον (the law) τελεῖτε (you keep) βασιλικὸν (royal), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) γραφήν (Scripture), “Ἀγαπήσεις (You shall love) τὸν (the) πλησίον (neighbor) σου (of you) ὡς (as) σεαυτόν (yourself),” καλῶς (well) ποιεῖτε (you are doing).

²⁴ ὃς (Who) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins) ἡμῶν (of us) αὐτὸς (Himself) ἀνήνεγκεν (bore) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) σώματι (body) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπὶ (on) τὸ (the) ξύλον (tree), ἵνα (so that), ταῖς (-) ἁμαρτίαις (to sins) ἀπογενόμενοι (having been dead), τῇ (-) δικαιοσύνῃ (to righteousness) ζήσωμεν (we might live). “Οὗ (By whose) τῷ (-) μώλωπι (wounds) ἰάθητε (you have been healed).”

⁸ πάλιν (Again), ἐντολὴν (a commandment) καινὴν (new) γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἀληθὲς (true) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) σκοτία (darkness) παράγεται (is passing away), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τὸ (-) ἀληθινὸν (true) ἤδη (already) φαίνει (shines). ⁹ Ὁ (The one) λέγων (claiming) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) φωτὶ (light) εἶναι (to be) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) μισῶν (hating), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness) ἐστὶν (is) ἕως (even until) ἄρτι (now). ¹⁰ ὁ (The one) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) φωτὶ (light) μένει (abides), καὶ (and) σκάνδαλον (cause for stumbling) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is). ¹¹ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) μισῶν (hating) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness) ἐστὶν (is), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σκοτίᾳ (darkness) περιπατεῖ (walks); καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) οἶδεν (does he know) ποῦ (where) ὑπάγει (he is going), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) σκοτία (darkness) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of him).

²¹ καὶ (And) ταύτην (this) τὴν (the) ἐντολὴν (commandment) ἔχομεν (we have) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτοῦ (Him), ἵνα (that) ὁ (the one) ἀγαπῶν (loving) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἀγαπᾷ (should love) καὶ (also) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him).
