¹⁹ Μὴ (Not) θησαυρίζετε (store up) ὑμῖν (for yourselves) θησαυροὺς (treasures) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ὅπου (where) σὴς (moth) καὶ (and) βρῶσις (rust) ἀφανίζει (destroy), καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) κλέπται (thieves) διορύσσουσιν (break in) καὶ (and) κλέπτουσιν (steal); ²⁰ θησαυρίζετε (store up) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (for yourselves) θησαυροὺς (treasures) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven), ὅπου (where) οὔτε (neither) σὴς (moth) οὔτε (nor) βρῶσις (rust) ἀφανίζει (destroy), καὶ (and) ὅπου (where) κλέπται (thieves) οὐ (not) διορύσσουσιν (do break in) οὐδὲ (nor) κλέπτουσιν (steal).

³³ Πωλήσατε (Sell) τὰ (the) ὑπάρχοντα (possessions) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) δότε (give) ἐλεημοσύνην (alms); ποιήσατε (make) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves) βαλλάντια (purses) μὴ (not) παλαιούμενα (growing old), θησαυρὸν (a treasure) ἀνέκλειπτον (unfailing) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens), ὅπου (where) κλέπτης (thief) οὐκ (not) ἐγγίζει (does draw near), οὐδὲ (nor) σὴς (moth) διαφθείρει (destroy).

³⁶ τὸν (the) λόγον (word) ὃν (that) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) τοῖς (to the) υἱοῖς (sons) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), εὐαγγελιζόμενος (proclaiming the gospel), εἰρήνην (peace) διὰ (by) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)— οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) πάντων (of all) Κύριος (Lord).

²⁶ Ἄνδρες (Men), ἀδελφοί (brothers), υἱοὶ (sons) γένους (of the family) Ἀβραὰμ (of Abraham), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) φοβούμενοι (fearing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἡμῖν (to us) ὁ (the) λόγος (message) τῆς (of the) σωτηρίας (salvation) ταύτης (this) ἐξαπεστάλη (has been sent).

⁶ Γνοὺς (Having known) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Παῦλος (Paul) ὅτι (that) τὸ (the) ἓν (one) μέρος (part) ἐστὶν (consists) Σαδδουκαίων (of Sadducees), τὸ (-) δὲ (but) ἕτερον (the other) Φαρισαίων (of Pharisees), ἔκραζεν (he began crying out) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) συνεδρίῳ (Council), “Ἄνδρες (Men), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἐγὼ (I) Φαρισαῖός (a Pharisee) εἰμι (am), υἱὸς (the son) Φαρισαίων (of a Pharisee); περὶ (concerning) ἐλπίδος (the hope) καὶ (and) ἀναστάσεως (resurrection) νεκρῶν (of the dead) ‹ἐγὼ› (I) κρίνομαι (am judged).”

¹⁵ ἐλπίδα (a hope) ἔχων (having) εἰς (in) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God) ἣν (which) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (they) οὗτοι (themselves) προσδέχονται (await), ἀνάστασιν (that a resurrection) μέλλειν (there is about) ἔσεσθαι (to be) δικαίων (of the just) τε (both) καὶ (and) ἀδίκων (of the unjust).

⁶ Καὶ (And) νῦν (now) ἐπ’ (for the) ἐλπίδι (hope) τῆς (of the) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) πατέρας (fathers) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐπαγγελίας (promise) γενομένης (having been made) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), ἕστηκα (I stand) κρινόμενος (being judged), ⁷ εἰς (to) ἣν (which) τὸ (the) δωδεκάφυλον (twelve tribes) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐν (in) ἐκτενείᾳ (earnestness), νύκτα (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέραν (day), λατρεῦον (serving), ἐλπίζει (hope) καταντῆσαι (to attain); περὶ (concerning) ἧς (which) ἐλπίδος (hope) ἐγκαλοῦμαι (I am accused) ὑπὸ (by) Ἰουδαίων (the Jews), βασιλεῦ (O king).

⁸ Ἀλλὰ (But) τί (what) λέγει (says it)? “Ἐγγύς (Near) σου (you) τὸ (the) ῥῆμά (word) ἐστιν (is), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) στόματί (mouth) σου (of you) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) σου (of you).” τοῦτ’ (That) ἔστιν (is), τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (word) τῆς (-) πίστεως (of faith) ὃ (which) κηρύσσομεν (we proclaim),

¹³ Νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) μένει (abide) πίστις (faith), ἐλπίς (hope), ἀγάπη (love), τὰ (the things) τρία (three) ταῦτα (these); μείζων (the greatest) δὲ (however) τούτων (of these is) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love).

¹⁹ εἰ (If) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ζωῇ (life) ταύτῃ (this), ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἠλπικότες (having hope) ἐσμὲν (we are), μόνον (only), ἐλεεινότεροι (more to be pitied) πάντων (than all) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἐσμέν (we are).

¹⁹ ὡς (how) ὅτι (that) Θεὸς (God) ἦν (was) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) κόσμον (the world) καταλλάσσων (reconciling) ἑαυτῷ (to Himself), μὴ (not) λογιζόμενος (reckoning) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (trespasses) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) θέμενος (having put) ἐν (into) ἡμῖν (us) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (-) καταλλαγῆς (of reconciliation).

⁷ ἐν (in the) λόγῳ (word) ἀληθείας (of truth), ἐν (in the) δυνάμει (power) Θεοῦ (of God); διὰ (with) τῶν (the) ὅπλων (weapons) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) τῶν (for the) δεξιῶν (right hand) καὶ (and) ἀριστερῶν (for the left);

⁵ Ἡμεῖς (We) γὰρ (for), Πνεύματι (through the Spirit) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith), ἐλπίδα (the hope) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) ἀπεκδεχόμεθα (eagerly await).

¹³ ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), ἀκούσαντες (having heard) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth), τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel) τῆς (of the) σωτηρίας (salvation) ὑμῶν (of you), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) καὶ (also) πιστεύσαντες (having believed), ἐσφραγίσθητε (you were sealed) τῷ (with the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τῆς (-) ἐπαγγελίας (of promise) τῷ (-) Ἁγίῳ (Holy),

¹⁸ πεφωτισμένους (being enlightened) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) ὑμῶν (of you), εἰς (in order for) τὸ (-) εἰδέναι (to know) ὑμᾶς (you) τίς (what) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (of the) κλήσεως (calling) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τίς (what) ὁ (are the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τῆς (of the) κληρονομίας (inheritance) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἁγίοις (saints), ¹⁹ καὶ (and) τί (what) τὸ (is the) ὑπερβάλλον (surpassing) μέγεθος (greatness) τῆς (of the) δυνάμεως (power) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (toward) ἡμᾶς (us), τοὺς (those) πιστεύοντας (believing) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐνέργειαν (working) τοῦ (of the) κράτους (might) τῆς (of the) ἰσχύος (strength) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

²³ εἴ (if) γε (indeed) ἐπιμένετε (you continue) τῇ (-) πίστει (in the faith), τεθεμελιωμένοι (established) καὶ (and) ἑδραῖοι (firm), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετακινούμενοι (being moved away) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἐλπίδος (hope) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) οὗ (that) ἠκούσατε (you have heard), τοῦ (-) κηρυχθέντος (having been proclaimed) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) κτίσει (creation) τῇ (-) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), οὗ (of which) ἐγενόμην (have become) ἐγὼ (I) Παῦλος (Paul) διάκονος (a minister).

²⁷ οἷς (to whom) ἠθέλησεν (has willed) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) γνωρίσαι (to make known) τί (what is) τὸ (the) πλοῦτος (riches) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (of the) μυστηρίου (mystery) τούτου (this) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), ὅ* (which) ἐστιν (is) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ἡ (the) ἐλπὶς (hope) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory),

¹⁶ Ὁ (The) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ἐνοικείτω (let dwell) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) πλουσίως (richly), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) διδάσκοντες (teaching) καὶ (and) νουθετοῦντες (admonishing) ἑαυτοὺς (each other) ψαλμοῖς (in psalms), ὕμνοις (hymns), ᾠδαῖς (and songs) πνευματικαῖς (spiritual), ἐν (with) τῇ (-) χάριτι (grace) ᾄδοντες (singing), ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), τῷ (to) Θεῷ (God).

¹³ Καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (also), ἡμεῖς (we) εὐχαριστοῦμεν (give thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἀδιαλείπτως (unceasingly) ὅτι (that), παραλαβόντες (having received) λόγον (the word) ἀκοῆς (by your hearing) παρ’ (from) ἡμῶν (us) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐδέξασθε (you accepted) οὐ (not) λόγον (the word) ἀνθρώπων (of men), ἀλλὰ (but) καθὼς (even as) ἀληθῶς (truly) ἐστὶν (it is), λόγον (the word) Θεοῦ (of God), ὃς (which) καὶ (also) ἐνεργεῖται (works) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) τοῖς (who) πιστεύουσιν (believe).

¹⁶ Αὐτὸς (Himself) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) Χριστὸς (Christ), καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἡμῶν (of us), ὁ (the One) ἀγαπήσας (having loved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given us) παράκλησιν (comfort) αἰωνίαν (eternal) καὶ (and) ἐλπίδα (hope) ἀγαθὴν (good) ἐν (by) χάριτι (grace),

¹⁵ Πιστὸς (Trustworthy is) ὁ (the) λόγος (saying) καὶ (and) πάσης (of full) ἀποδοχῆς (acceptance) ἄξιος (worthy), ὅτι (that) Χριστὸς (Christ) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἦλθεν (came) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) ἁμαρτωλοὺς (sinners) σῶσαι (to save), ὧν (of whom) πρῶτός (the foremost) εἰμι (am) ἐγώ (I).

⁸ λοιπὸν (From now on) ἀπόκειταί (is laid up) μοι (for me) ὁ (the) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) στέφανος (crown), ὃν (which) ἀποδώσει (will award) μοι (to me) ὁ (the) κύριος (Lord) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), ὁ (the) δίκαιος (righteous) κριτής (judge); οὐ (not) μόνον (only) δὲ (however) ἐμοὶ (to me), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) πᾶσι (to all) τοῖς (those) ἠγαπηκόσι (loving) τὴν (the) ἐπιφάνειαν (appearing) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

² ἐπ’ (in) ἐλπίδι (the hope) ζωῆς (of life) αἰωνίου (eternal), ἣν (which) ἐπηγγείλατο (promised) ὁ (-) ἀψευδὴς (who cannot lie), Θεὸς (God), πρὸ (before) χρόνων (time) αἰωνίων (eternal);

¹⁹ οὐδὲν (nothing) γὰρ (for) ἐτελείωσεν (perfected) ὁ (the) νόμος (law)— ἐπεισαγωγὴ (the introduction) δὲ (then) κρείττονος (of a better) ἐλπίδος (hope), δι’ (by) ἧς (which) ἐγγίζομεν (we draw near) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).

³ Εὐλογητὸς (Blessed be) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) Πατὴρ (Father) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the One) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) πολὺ (great) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔλεος (mercy) ἀναγεννήσας (having begotten again) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (to) ἐλπίδα (a hope) ζῶσαν (living), δι’ (through) ἀναστάσεως (the resurrection) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), ⁴ εἰς (to) κληρονομίαν (an inheritance) ἄφθαρτον (imperishable) καὶ (and) ἀμίαντον (undefiled) καὶ (and) ἀμάραντον (unfading), τετηρημένην (being reserved) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) εἰς (for) ὑμᾶς (you),

² ὡς (like) ἀρτιγέννητα (newborn) βρέφη (babies), τὸ (-) λογικὸν (reasonable) ἄδολον (pure) γάλα (milk) ἐπιποθήσατε (crave), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (by) αὐτῷ (it) αὐξηθῆτε (you may grow up) εἰς (in respect to) σωτηρίαν (salvation),

¹⁵ Κύριον (As Lord) δὲ (however), τὸν (-) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἁγιάσατε (sanctify) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you), ἕτοιμοι (ready) ἀεὶ (always) πρὸς (for) ἀπολογίαν (a defense) παντὶ (to everyone) τῷ (-) αἰτοῦντι (asking) ὑμᾶς (you) λόγον (an account) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) ἐλπίδος (hope); ἀλλὰ (yet) μετὰ (with) πραΰτητος (gentleness) καὶ (and) φόβου (fear),

³ καὶ (And) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) ἐλπίδα (hope) ταύτην (this) ἐπ’ (in) αὐτῷ (Him), ἁγνίζει (purifies) ἑαυτὸν (himself), καθὼς (just as) ἐκεῖνος (He) ἁγνός (pure) ἐστιν (is).
