¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I was well pleased).”

²⁹ Ἢ (Or) πῶς (how) δύναταί (is able) τις (anyone) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) τοῦ (of the) ἰσχυροῦ (strong man) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) σκεύη (goods) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἁρπάσαι (to plunder), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) πρῶτον (first) δήσῃ (he bind) τὸν (the) ἰσχυρόν (strong man)? καὶ (And) τότε (then) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him) διαρπάσει (he will plunder). ³⁰ Ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ὢν (being) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) κατ’ (against) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) μὴ (not) συνάγων (gathering) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) σκορπίζει (scatters).

⁵ Ἔτι (While yet) αὐτοῦ (he) λαλοῦντος (was speaking), ἰδοὺ (behold), νεφέλη (a cloud) φωτεινὴ (bright) ἐπεσκίασεν (overshadowed) αὐτούς (them); καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold), φωνὴ (a voice) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) νεφέλης (cloud), λέγουσα (saying), “Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son) μου (of Me), ὁ (the) ἀγαπητός (beloved), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) εὐδόκησα (I am well pleased). ἀκούετε (Listen) αὐτοῦ (to Him)!”

³⁴ Τότε (Then) ἐρεῖ (will say) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) τοῖς (to those) ἐκ (on) δεξιῶν (the right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ‘Δεῦτε (Come), οἱ (those) εὐλογημένοι (being blessed) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of me), κληρονομήσατε (inherit) τὴν (the) ἡτοιμασμένην (having been prepared) ὑμῖν (for you) βασιλείαν (kingdom) ἀπὸ (from the) καταβολῆς (foundation) κόσμου (of the world).

²⁴ “Ἀγωνίζεσθε (Strive) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) στενῆς (narrow) θύρας (door); ὅτι (for) πολλοί (many), λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ζητήσουσιν (will seek) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter in), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἰσχύσουσιν (will be able).

⁵³ καθ’ (Every) ἡμέραν (day) ὄντος (being) μου (of Me) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), οὐκ (not) ἐξετείνατε (did you stretch out) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) ἐπ’ (against) ἐμέ (Me); ἀλλ’ (but) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ὑμῶν (of you) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ἐξουσία (power) τοῦ (of the) σκότους (darkness).”

³⁵ Ὁ (The) Πατὴρ (Father) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) τὸν (the) Υἱόν (Son), καὶ (and) πάντα (all things) δέδωκεν (has given) ἐν (into) τῇ (the) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

²⁴ Ἀμὴν (Truly), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἀκούων (hearing), καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) τῷ (the One) πέμψαντί (having sent) με (Me), ἔχει (he has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) κρίσιν (judgment) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταβέβηκεν (has passed) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life).

³¹ νῦν (Now) κρίσις (the judgment) ἐστὶν (is) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this); νῦν (now) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (prince) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) ἐκβληθήσεται (will be cast) ἔξω (out). ³² κἀγὼ (And I), ἐὰν (if) ὑψωθῶ (I am lifted up) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), πάντας (all) ἑλκύσω (will draw) πρὸς (to) ἐμαυτόν (Myself).”

²⁴ Πάτερ* (Father), ὃ (those whom) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), θέλω (I desire) ἵνα (that) ὅπου (where) εἰμὶ (am) ἐγὼ (I), κἀκεῖνοι (they also) ὦσιν (may be) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me), ἵνα (that) θεωρῶσιν (they may behold) τὴν (-) δόξαν (glory) τὴν (-) ἐμὴν (My), ἣν (that) δέδωκάς (You gave) μοι (Me) ὅτι (because) ἠγάπησάς (You loved) με (Me) πρὸ (before) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world).

¹⁸ ἀνοῖξαι (to open) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦ (that) ἐπιστρέψαι (they may turn) ἀπὸ (from) σκότους (darkness) εἰς (to) φῶς (light), καὶ (and) τῆς (from the) ἐξουσίας (power) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), τοῦ (that) λαβεῖν (may receive) αὐτοὺς (they) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) καὶ (and) κλῆρον (an inheritance) ἐν (among) τοῖς (those) ἡγιασμένοις (having been sanctified) πίστει (by faith) τῇ (that is) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me).’

¹⁷ χάρις (Thanks be) δὲ (however) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ὅτι (that) ἦτε (you used to be) δοῦλοι (slaves) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), ὑπηκούσατε (you have become obedient) δὲ (now) ἐκ (from the) καρδίας (heart), εἰς (to) ὃν (which) παρεδόθητε (you were handed over) τύπον (to the form) διδαχῆς (of teaching). ¹⁸ ἐλευθερωθέντες (Having been set free) δὲ (now) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (sin), ἐδουλώθητε (you have become slaves) τῇ (-) δικαιοσύνῃ (to righteousness). ¹⁹ Ἀνθρώπινον (In human terms) λέγω (I speak) διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) ἀσθένειαν (weakness) τῆς (of the) σαρκὸς (flesh) ὑμῶν (of you). ὥσπερ (For as) γὰρ (for) παρεστήσατε (you yielded) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) ὑμῶν (of you) δοῦλα (in bondage) τῇ (-) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (to impurity) καὶ (and) τῇ (to) ἀνομίᾳ (lawlessness) εἰς (unto) τὴν (-) ἀνομίαν (lawlessness), οὕτως (so) νῦν (now) παραστήσατε (yield) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) ὑμῶν (of you) δοῦλα (in bondage) τῇ (-) δικαιοσύνῃ (to righteousness) εἰς (unto) ἁγιασμόν (sanctification). ²⁰ Ὅτε (When) γὰρ (for) δοῦλοι (slaves) ἦτε (you were) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), ἐλεύθεροι (free) ἦτε (you were) τῇ (-) δικαιοσύνῃ (from righteousness). ²¹ τίνα (What) οὖν (therefore) καρπὸν (fruit) εἴχετε (had you) τότε (then) ἐφ’ (in the things) οἷς (of which) νῦν (now) ἐπαισχύνεσθε (you are ashamed)? τὸ (The) γὰρ (for) τέλος (end) ἐκείνων (of those things) θάνατος (is death). ²² νυνὶ (Now) δέ (however), ἐλευθερωθέντες (having been set free) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) ἁμαρτίας (sin), δουλωθέντες (having become slaves) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), ἔχετε (you have) τὸν (the) καρπὸν (fruit) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (unto) ἁγιασμόν (sanctification); τὸ (-) δὲ (now) τέλος (the end) ζωὴν (is life) αἰώνιον (eternal).

¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βρῶσις (eating) καὶ (and) πόσις (drinking), ἀλλὰ (but) δικαιοσύνη (righteousness) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) καὶ (and) χαρὰ (joy) ἐν (in the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy).

⁹ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἄδικοι (the unrighteous ones) Θεοῦ (of God) βασιλείαν (the kingdom) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit)? μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be deceived): οὔτε (neither) πόρνοι (the sexually immoral), οὔτε (nor) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), οὔτε (nor) μοιχοὶ (adulterers), οὔτε (nor) μαλακοὶ (effeminate), οὔτε (nor) ἀρσενοκοῖται (homosexuals), ¹⁰ οὔτε (nor) κλέπται (thieves), οὔτε (nor) πλεονέκται (coveters), οὐ (not) μέθυσοι (drunkards), οὐ (nor) λοίδοροι (verbal abusers), οὐχ (nor) ἅρπαγες (swindlers), βασιλείαν (the kingdom) Θεοῦ (of God) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit). ¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

²³ Ἕκαστος (Each) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἰδίῳ (own) τάγματι (order): ἀπαρχὴ (the firstfruit) Χριστός (Christ), ἔπειτα (then) οἱ (those) τοῦ (of) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐν (at) τῇ (the) παρουσίᾳ (coming) αὐτοῦ (of Him); ²⁴ εἶτα (then) τὸ (the) τέλος (end), ὅταν (when) παραδιδῷ* (He shall hand over) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρί (Father), ὅταν (when) καταργήσῃ (He shall have annulled) πᾶσαν (all) ἀρχὴν (dominion) καὶ (and) πᾶσαν (all) ἐξουσίαν (authority) καὶ (and) δύναμιν (power). ²⁵ δεῖ (It behooves) γὰρ (for) αὐτὸν (Him) βασιλεύειν (to reign) ἄχρι (until) οὗ (that) θῇ (He shall have put) πάντας (all) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑπὸ (under) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁷ “Διὸ (Therefore) ἐξέλθατε (come out) ἐκ (from) μέσου (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) ἀφορίσθητε (be separate), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord), καὶ (and) ἀκαθάρτου (unclean) μὴ (nothing) ἅπτεσθε (touch), κἀγὼ (and I) εἰσδέξομαι (will receive) ὑμᾶς (you).” ¹⁸ Καὶ (and) “Ἔσομαι (I will be) ὑμῖν (to you) εἰς (for) Πατέρα (a father), καὶ (and) ὑμεῖς (you) ἔσεσθέ (will be) μοι (to Me) εἰς (for) υἱοὺς (sons) καὶ (and) θυγατέρας (daughters), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty).”

⁶ εἰς (to) ἔπαινον (the praise) δόξης (of the glory) τῆς (of the) χάριτος (of grace) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἧς (which) ἐχαρίτωσεν (He has freely given) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Ἠγαπημένῳ (Beloved One),

¹⁸ ἐσκοτωμένοι (being darkened) τῇ (in the) διανοίᾳ (understanding), ὄντες (being) ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι (alienated from) τῆς (the) ζωῆς (life) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) ἄγνοιαν (ignorance) τὴν (-) οὖσαν (being) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) πώρωσιν (hardness) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτῶν (of them),

⁸ Ἦτε (You were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) σκότος (darkness); νῦν (now) δὲ (however), φῶς (light) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord); ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) φωτὸς (of light) περιπατεῖτε (walk)—

¹² ὅτι (because) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἡμῖν (to us) ἡ (the) πάλη (wrestling) πρὸς (against) αἷμα (blood) καὶ (and) σάρκα (flesh), ἀλλὰ (but) πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἀρχάς (rulers), πρὸς (against) τὰς (the) ἐξουσίας (authorities), πρὸς (against) τοὺς (the) κοσμοκράτορας (cosmic powers) τοῦ (of the) σκότους (darkness) τούτου (this), πρὸς (against) τὰ (the) πνευματικὰ (spiritual forces) τῆς (-) πονηρίας (of evil) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ἐπουρανίοις (heavenly realms).

¹² παρακαλοῦντες (exhorting) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (and) παραμυθούμενοι (comforting) καὶ (and) μαρτυρόμενοι (charging) εἰς (unto) τὸ (-) περιπατεῖν (to walk) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀξίως (worthily) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τοῦ (who) καλοῦντος (calls) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of Himself) βασιλείαν (kingdom) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory).

³ Ἦμεν (Were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we ourselves) ἀνόητοι (foolish), ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), πλανώμενοι (being deceived), δουλεύοντες (serving) ἐπιθυμίαις (lusts) καὶ (and) ἡδοναῖς (pleasures) ποικίλαις (various), ἐν (in) κακίᾳ (malice) καὶ (and) φθόνῳ (envy) διάγοντες (living), στυγητοί (hateful), μισοῦντες (hating) ἀλλήλους (one another). ⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἡ (the) χρηστότης (kindness) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φιλανθρωπία (love of mankind) ἐπεφάνη (appeared), τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), Θεοῦ (God), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) ἃ (that) ἐποιήσαμεν (did) ἡμεῖς (we), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (-) αὐτοῦ (His) ἔλεος (mercy), ἔσωσεν (He saved) ἡμᾶς (us) διὰ (through) λουτροῦ (the washing) παλινγενεσίας (of regeneration) καὶ (and) ἀνακαινώσεως (renewing) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁶ οὗ (whom) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us) πλουσίως (richly) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us),

¹⁴ Ἐπεὶ (Since) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) παιδία (children) κεκοινώνηκεν (have partaken) αἵματος (of blood) καὶ (and) σαρκός (of flesh) καὶ (also), αὐτὸς (He) παραπλησίως (likewise) μετέσχεν (took part in) τῶν (the) αὐτῶν (same things), ἵνα (so that) διὰ (through) τοῦ (His) θανάτου (death), καταργήσῃ (He might destroy) τὸν (the one) τὸ (the) κράτος (power) ἔχοντα (holding) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), τοῦτ’ (that) ἔστιν (is), τὸν (the) διάβολον (devil),

⁹ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) γένος (are a race) ἐκλεκτόν (chosen), βασίλειον (a royal) ἱεράτευμα (priesthood), ἔθνος (a nation) ἅγιον (holy), λαὸς (a people) εἰς (for His) περιποίησιν (possession), ὅπως (so that) τὰς (the) ἀρετὰς (excellencies) ἐξαγγείλητε (you may proclaim) τοῦ (of the One) ἐκ (out of) σκότους (darkness) ὑμᾶς (you) καλέσαντος (having called), εἰς (to) τὸ (the) θαυμαστὸν (marvelous) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φῶς (light),

¹¹ οὕτως (In this way) γὰρ (for) πλουσίως (richly) ἐπιχορηγηθήσεται (will be supplied) ὑμῖν (to you) ἡ (the) εἴσοδος (entrance) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) αἰώνιον (eternal) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

⁸ πάλιν (Again), ἐντολὴν (a commandment) καινὴν (new) γράφω (I am writing) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἀληθὲς (true) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you), ὅτι (because) ἡ (the) σκοτία (darkness) παράγεται (is passing away), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τὸ (-) ἀληθινὸν (true) ἤδη (already) φαίνει (shines).

⁸ ὁ (The one) ποιῶν (practicing) τὴν (-) ἁμαρτίαν (sin), ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) διαβόλου (devil) ἐστίν (is), ὅτι (because) ἀπ’ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning) ὁ (the) διάβολος (devil) ἁμαρτάνει (has been sinning). εἰς (For) τοῦτο (this reason) ἐφανερώθη (was revealed) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (so that) λύσῃ (He might destroy) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil).

¹⁴ Ἡμεῖς (We) οἴδαμεν (know) ὅτι (that) μεταβεβήκαμεν (we have passed) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (to) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life), ὅτι (because) ἀγαπῶμεν (we love) τοὺς (our) ἀδελφούς (brothers). ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶν (loving) μένει (abides) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) θανάτῳ (death).
