⁴ μετὰ (with) πολλῆς (much) παρακλήσεως (entreaty) δεόμενοι (imploring) ἡμῶν (of us), τὴν (for the) χάριν (grace) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) κοινωνίαν (fellowship) τῆς (of the) διακονίας (service) τῆς (-) εἰς (among) τοὺς (the) ἁγίους (saints).

⁴² καὶ (And) ὃς (whoever) ἂν* (-) ποτίσῃ (shall give to drink) ἕνα (one) τῶν (the) μικρῶν (little ones) τούτων (of these) ποτήριον (a cup) ψυχροῦ (of cold water), μόνον (only) εἰς (in the) ὄνομα (name) μαθητοῦ (of a disciple), ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀπολέσῃ (shall he lose) τὸν (the) μισθὸν (reward) αὐτοῦ (of him).”

⁵⁰ ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), αὐτός (he) μου (My) ἀδελφὸς (brother) καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister) καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

⁴⁰ Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) ἐρεῖ (will say) αὐτοῖς (to them), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (as much as) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (you did it).’

⁴⁴ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσονται (will answer) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (themselves), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Κύριε (Lord), πότε (when) σε (You) εἴδομεν (saw we) πεινῶντα (hungering), ἢ (or) διψῶντα (thirsting), ἢ (or) ξένον (a stranger), ἢ (or) γυμνὸν (naked), ἢ (or) ἀσθενῆ (sick), ἢ (or) ἐν (in) φυλακῇ (prison), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) διηκονήσαμέν (did minister) σοι (to You)?’ ⁴⁵ Τότε (Then) ἀποκριθήσεται (will He answer) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), ‘Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐφ’ (to the extent) ὅσον (that) οὐκ (not) ἐποιήσατε (you did it) ἑνὶ (to one) τούτων (of these) τῶν (the) ἐλαχίστων (least), οὐδὲ (neither) ἐμοὶ (to Me) ἐποιήσατε (did you).’

⁷ πάντοτε (Always) γὰρ (for) τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) ἔχετε (you have) μεθ’ (with) ἑαυτῶν (you), καὶ (and) ὅταν (whenever) θέλητε (you desire) δύνασθε (you are able) αὐτοῖς (them) εὖ (good) ποιῆσαι (to do); ἐμὲ (Me) δὲ (however) οὐ (not) πάντοτε (always) ἔχετε (do you have).

²⁶ Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὖν (therefore), ἰδὼν (having seen) τὴν (His) μητέρα (mother) καὶ (and) τὸν (the) μαθητὴν (disciple) παρεστῶτα (standing by) ὃν (whom) ἠγάπα (He loved), λέγει (says) τῇ (to) μητρί (His mother), “Γύναι (Woman), ἴδε (behold), ὁ (the) υἱός (son) σου (of you).” ²⁷ εἶτα (Then) λέγει (He says) τῷ (to the) μαθητῇ (disciple), “Ἴδε (Behold) ἡ (the) μήτηρ (mother) σου (of you).” καὶ (And) ἀπ’ (from) ἐκείνης (that) τῆς (-) ὥρας (hour) ἔλαβεν (took) ὁ (the) μαθητὴς (disciple) αὐτὴν (her) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own).

²⁹ τῶν (-) δὲ (And) μαθητῶν (the disciples), καθὼς (as) εὐπορεῖτό (was prospered) τις (anyone), ὥρισαν (determined) ἕκαστος (each) αὐτῶν (of them), εἰς (for) διακονίαν (ministry), πέμψαι (to send) τοῖς (to the) κατοικοῦσιν (dwelling) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers),

¹⁵ ὡς (When) δὲ (then) ἐβαπτίσθη (she was baptized), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) οἶκος (house) αὐτῆς (of her), παρεκάλεσεν (she begged), λέγουσα (saying), “Εἰ (If) κεκρίκατέ (you have judged) με (me) πιστὴν (faithful) τῷ (to the) Κυρίῳ (Lord) εἶναι (to be), εἰσελθόντες (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οἶκόν (house) μου (of me), μένετε (abide).” καὶ (And) παρεβιάσατο (she persuaded) ἡμᾶς (us).

¹⁷ Δι’ (After) ἐτῶν (years) δὲ (now) πλειόνων (many), ἐλεημοσύνας (alms) ποιήσων (to bring) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ἔθνος (nation) μου (of me), παρεγενόμην (I arrived), καὶ (and) προσφοράς (offerings),

²⁵ Νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) πορεύομαι (I am going) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), διακονῶν (ministering) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints). ²⁶ εὐδόκησαν* (Were pleased) γὰρ (for) Μακεδονία (Macedonia) καὶ (and) Ἀχαΐα (Achaia) κοινωνίαν (a contribution) τινὰ (certain) ποιήσασθαι (to make) εἰς (for) τοὺς (the) πτωχοὺς (poor) τῶν (among the) ἁγίων (saints) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem).

³¹ ἵνα (so that) ῥυσθῶ (I may be delivered) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (those) ἀπειθούντων (refusing to be persuaded) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) διακονία (service) μου (of me), ἡ (which is) εἰς (in) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem), εὐπρόσδεκτος (acceptable) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints) γένηται (may be),

¹ Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) λογείας* (collection) τῆς (which is) εἰς (for) τοὺς (the) ἁγίους (saints), ὥσπερ (as) διέταξα (I have directed) ταῖς (the) ἐκκλησίαις (churches) τῆς (-) Γαλατίας (of Galatia), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ποιήσατε (are to do).

³ ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) παραγένωμαι (I shall have arrived), οὓς (whomever) ἐὰν (if) δοκιμάσητε (you might approve), δι’ (with) ἐπιστολῶν (letters) τούτους (these) πέμψω (I will send) ἀπενεγκεῖν (to carry) τὴν (the) χάριν (bounty) ὑμῶν (of you) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem). ⁴ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (then) ἄξιον (suitable) ᾖ (it is) τοῦ (for) κἀμὲ (me also) πορεύεσθαι (to go), σὺν (with) ἐμοὶ (me) πορεύσονται (they will go).

¹⁵ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οἴδατε (you know) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) Στεφανᾶ (of Stephanas), ὅτι (that) ἐστὶν (it is) ἀπαρχὴ (firstfruit) τῆς (-) Ἀχαΐας (of Achaia), καὶ (and) εἰς (to) διακονίαν (service) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints), ἔταξαν (they have devoted) ἑαυτούς (themselves),

¹⁸ Συνεπέμψαμεν (We have sent) δὲ (now) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) οὗ (whose) ὁ (-) ἔπαινος (praise) ἐν (is in) τῷ (the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) διὰ (through) πασῶν (all) τῶν (of the) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches); ¹⁹ οὐ (not) μόνον (only) δὲ (now), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) χειροτονηθεὶς (having been chosen) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches) συνέκδημος (fellow traveler) ἡμῶν (of us), σὺν* (with) τῇ (-) χάριτι (grace) ταύτῃ (this) τῇ (that is) διακονουμένῃ (being administered) ὑφ’ (by) ἡμῶν (us) πρὸς (toward) τὴν (the) αὐτοῦ (himself) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) δόξαν (glory), καὶ (and) προθυμίαν (readiness) ἡμῶν (of us),

¹⁰ μόνον (Only they asked) τῶν (the) πτωχῶν (poor) ἵνα (that) μνημονεύωμεν (we should remember), ὃ (that) καὶ (also) ἐσπούδασα (I was eager) αὐτὸ (the same) τοῦτο (thing) ποιῆσαι (to do).

¹⁰ Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ὡς (as) καιρὸν (occasion) ἔχομεν* (we have), ἐργαζώμεθα (we should work) τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) πρὸς (toward) πάντας (all), μάλιστα (especially) δὲ (now) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) οἰκείους (of the household) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (of faith).

¹⁰ ἐν (in) ἔργοις (works) καλοῖς (good) μαρτυρουμένη (being borne witness to), εἰ (if) ἐτεκνοτρόφησεν (she has brought up children), εἰ (if) ἐξενοδόχησεν (she entertained strangers), εἰ (if) ἁγίων (saints’) πόδας (feet) ἔνιψεν (she has washed), εἰ (if to those) θλιβομένοις (being oppressed) ἐπήρκεσεν (she has imparted relief), εἰ (if) παντὶ (every) ἔργῳ (work) ἀγαθῷ (good) ἐπηκολούθησεν (she has followed after).

⁵ ἀκούων (hearing) σου (of your) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (love) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) ἣν (that) ἔχεις (you have) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἰς (toward) πάντας (all) τοὺς (the) ἁγίους (saints), ⁶ ὅπως (so that) ἡ (the) κοινωνία (fellowship) τῆς (of the) πίστεώς (faith) σου (of you), ἐνεργὴς (effective) γένηται (might become) ἐν (in) ἐπιγνώσει (the acknowledgment) παντὸς (of every) ἀγαθοῦ (good thing) τοῦ (that is) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us), εἰς (in) Χριστόν (Christ).

¹⁰ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἄδικος (unjust is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ἐπιλαθέσθαι (to forget) τοῦ (the) ἔργου (work) ὑμῶν (of you) καὶ (and) τῆς (the) ἀγάπης (love) ἧς (that) ἐνεδείξασθε (you have shown) εἰς (toward) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) αὐτοῦ (of Him), διακονήσαντες (having ministered) τοῖς (to the) ἁγίοις (saints) καὶ (and) διακονοῦντες (still ministering).
