¹⁰ “Ὅτι (For) Αἱ (the) ἐπιστολαὶ (letters),” μέν (indeed) φησίν (they say), “Βαρεῖαι (are weighty) καὶ (and) ἰσχυραί (strong), ἡ (-) δὲ (but) παρουσία (the presence) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) ἀσθενὴς (weak), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λόγος (speech) ἐξουθενημένος (having been ignored).”

¹⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἀπέστειλέν (sent) με (me) Χριστὸς (Christ) βαπτίζειν (to baptize), ἀλλὰ (but) εὐαγγελίζεσθαι (to preach the gospel), οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) λόγου (of discourse), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) κενωθῇ (be emptied of power) ὁ (the) σταυρὸς (cross) τοῦ (of the) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

²¹ ἐπειδὴ (Since) γὰρ (for) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὐκ (not) ἔγνω (knew) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) σοφίας (wisdom) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), εὐδόκησεν (was pleased) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), διὰ (through) τῆς (the) μωρίας (foolishness) τοῦ (of the) κηρύγματος (proclamation), σῶσαι (to save) τοὺς (those) πιστεύοντας (believing).

¹ Κἀγὼ (And I), ἐλθὼν (having come) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἦλθον (came) οὐ (not) καθ’ (according to) ὑπεροχὴν (excellency) λόγου (of speech), ἢ (or) σοφίας (wisdom), καταγγέλλων (proclaiming) ὑμῖν (to you) τὸ (the) μαρτύριον (testimony) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ² οὐ (Nothing) γὰρ (for) ἔκρινά (I decided) τι (anything) εἰδέναι (to know) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ), καὶ (and) τοῦτον (Him) ἐσταυρωμένον (having been crucified). ³ κἀγὼ (And I), ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) φόβῳ (fear), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τρόμῳ (trembling) πολλῷ (much), ἐγενόμην (was) πρὸς (with) ὑμᾶς (you). ⁴ καὶ (And) ὁ (the) λόγος (message) μου (of me) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κήρυγμά (preaching) μου (of me) οὐκ (were not) ἐν (in) πειθοῖς (persuasive) σοφίας (of wisdom) λόγοις (words), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) ἀποδείξει (demonstration) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) καὶ (and) δυνάμεως (of power),

¹ Αὐτὸς (Myself) δὲ (now) ἐγὼ (I), Παῦλος (Paul), παρακαλῶ (exhort) ὑμᾶς (you) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) πραΰτητος (meekness) καὶ (and) ἐπιεικείας (gentleness) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὃς (who) κατὰ (as to) πρόσωπον (appearance) μὲν (indeed) ταπεινὸς (am humble) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), ἀπὼν (being absent) δὲ (however) θαρρῶ (am bold) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁶ εἰ (If) δὲ (however), καὶ (even) ἰδιώτης (unpolished) τῷ (-) λόγῳ (in speech I am), ἀλλ’ (yet) οὐ (not) τῇ (-) γνώσει (in knowledge); ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) παντὶ (every way), φανερώσαντες (we have been made manifest) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all things) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁵ Ὑπὲρ (Concerning) τοῦ (-) τοιούτου (such a man) καυχήσομαι (I will boast); ὑπὲρ (concerning) δὲ (however) ἐμαυτοῦ (myself), οὐ (not) καυχήσομαι (I will boast), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses). ⁶ ἐὰν (If) γὰρ (for) θελήσω (I should desire) καυχήσασθαι (to boast), οὐκ (not) ἔσομαι (I will be) ἄφρων (a fool); ἀλήθειαν (the truth) γὰρ (for) ἐρῶ (I will be speaking). φείδομαι (I refrain) δέ (however), μή (lest) τις (anyone) εἰς (to) ἐμὲ (me) λογίσηται (should credit) ὑπὲρ (more than) ὃ (what) βλέπει (he sees) με (in me), ἢ (or) ἀκούει (hears) ‹τι› (anyone) ἐξ (of) ἐμοῦ (me), ⁷ καὶ (and) τῇ (the) ὑπερβολῇ (surpassingness) τῶν (of the) ἀποκαλύψεων (revelations). Διὸ (Therefore) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ὑπεραίρωμαι (I should become conceited), ἐδόθη (was given) μοι (to me) σκόλοψ (a thorn) τῇ (in my) σαρκί (flesh), ἄγγελος (a messenger) Σατανᾶ (of Satan), ἵνα (that) με (me) κολαφίζῃ (he might buffet), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ὑπεραίρωμαι (I should become conceited). ⁸ ὑπὲρ (For) τούτου (this), τρὶς (three times) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) παρεκάλεσα (I begged), ἵνα (that) ἀποστῇ (it might depart) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me). ⁹ καὶ (And) εἴρηκέν (He said) μοι (to me), “Ἀρκεῖ (Suffices) σοι (you) ἡ (the) χάρις (grace) μου (of Me); ἡ (the) γὰρ (for) δύναμις (power) ἐν (in) ἀσθενείᾳ (weakness) τελεῖται (is perfected).” Ἥδιστα (Most gladly) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (rather) καυχήσομαι (will I boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀσθενείαις (weaknesses) ‹μου› (of me), ἵνα (so that) ἐπισκηνώσῃ (may rest) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) ἡ (the) δύναμις (power) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ).

¹³ Οἴδατε (You know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) δι’ (in) ἀσθένειαν (weakness) τῆς (of the) σαρκὸς (flesh) εὐηγγελισάμην (I proclaimed the gospel) ὑμῖν (to you) τὸ (at the) πρότερον (first); ¹⁴ καὶ (and) τὸν (the) πειρασμὸν (test) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σαρκί (flesh) μου (of me), οὐκ (not) ἐξουθενήσατε (you did despise me), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐξεπτύσατε (reject me with contempt); ἀλλὰ (but) ὡς (as) ἄγγελον (an angel) Θεοῦ (of God), ἐδέξασθέ (you received) με (me) ὡς (even as) Χριστὸν (Christ) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).
