⁷ δεῖ (It behooves him) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) μαρτυρίαν (a testimony) καλὴν (good) ἔχειν (to have) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (those) ἔξωθεν (outside), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) εἰς (into) ὀνειδισμὸν (reproach) ἐμπέσῃ (he might fall), καὶ (and) παγίδα (the snare) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμῖν (To you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) δέδοται (has been given) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ἐκείνοις (To those) δὲ (however) τοῖς (who are) ἔξω (outside), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὰ (-) πάντα (everything) γίνεται (is done),

³ ἐπισκέψασθε (Select) δέ (therefore), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἄνδρας (men) ἐξ (out from) ὑμῶν (yourselves) μαρτυρουμένους (being well attested), ἑπτὰ (seven) πλήρεις (full) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) καὶ (and) σοφίας (wisdom), οὓς (whom) καταστήσομεν (we will appoint) ἐπὶ (over) τῆς (the) χρείας (task) ταύτης (this).

²² Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said), “Κορνήλιος (Cornelius) ἑκατοντάρχης (a centurion), ἀνὴρ (a man) δίκαιος (righteous) καὶ (and) φοβούμενος (fearing) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), μαρτυρούμενός (being well testified to) τε (then) ὑπὸ (by) ὅλου (all) τοῦ (the) ἔθνους (nation) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), ἐχρηματίσθη (was divinely instructed) ὑπὸ (by) ἀγγέλου (an angel) ἁγίου (holy) μεταπέμψασθαί (to send for) σε (you) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) ἀκοῦσαι (to hear) ῥήματα (a message) παρὰ (from) σοῦ (you).”

¹² Ἁνανίας (Ananias) δέ (then) τις (certain), ἀνὴρ (a man) εὐλαβὴς (devout) κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) νόμον (law), μαρτυρούμενος (borne witness to) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all) τῶν (the) κατοικούντων (dwelling there) Ἰουδαίων (Jews),

¹² Τί (What) γάρ (for) μοι (is it to me) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside) κρίνειν (to judge)? οὐχὶ (Not) τοὺς (those) ἔσω (within) ὑμεῖς (you) κρίνετε (do judge)?

³² ἀπρόσκοποι (Without offense) καὶ (both) Ἰουδαίοις (to Jews) γίνεσθε (be you), καὶ (and) Ἕλλησιν (Greeks), καὶ (and) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) —

³ Μηδεμίαν (Nothing) ἐν (before) μηδενὶ (no one) διδόντες (placing) προσκοπήν (an obstacle), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) μωμηθῇ (should be blemished) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry),

²¹ προνοοῦμεν (We are taking great care to do) γὰρ (for) καλὰ (what is right), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἐνώπιον (before) Κυρίου (the Lord), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) ἐνώπιον (before) ἀνθρώπων (men).

⁵ Ἐν (In) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) περιπατεῖτε (walk) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), τὸν (the) καιρὸν (time) ἐξαγοραζόμενοι (redeeming).

¹² ἵνα (so that) περιπατῆτε (you may walk) εὐσχημόνως (properly) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), καὶ (and) μηδενὸς (of no one) χρείαν (need) ἔχητε (may have).

²² ἀπὸ (From) παντὸς (every) εἴδους (form) πονηροῦ (of evil) ἀπέχεσθε (abstain).

¹⁴ Βούλομαι (I want) οὖν (therefore) νεωτέρας (the younger ones) γαμεῖν (to marry), τεκνογονεῖν (to bear children), οἰκοδεσποτεῖν (to manage their households), μηδεμίαν (no) ἀφορμὴν (occasion) διδόναι (to give) τῷ (the one) ἀντικειμένῳ (opposing) λοιδορίας (of reproach) χάριν (on account).

²⁴ Τινῶν (Of some) ἀνθρώπων (men) αἱ (the) ἁμαρτίαι (sins) πρόδηλοί (manifest) εἰσιν (are), προάγουσαι (going before them) εἰς (to) κρίσιν (judgment); τισὶν (of some) δὲ (however) καὶ (also) ἐπακολουθοῦσιν (they appear later). ²⁵ ὡσαύτως (Likewise) καὶ (also), τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τὰ (-) καλὰ (good) πρόδηλα (are evident), καὶ (and even) τὰ (those) ἄλλως (otherwise) ἔχοντα (being), κρυβῆναι (to be concealed) οὐ (not) δύνανται (able).

⁹ Οἱ (Those) δὲ (however) βουλόμενοι (desiring) πλουτεῖν (to be rich) ἐμπίπτουσιν (fall) εἰς (into) πειρασμὸν (temptation) καὶ (and) παγίδα (a snare), καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) πολλὰς (many) ἀνοήτους (foolish) καὶ (and) βλαβεράς (harmful), αἵτινες (which) βυθίζουσιν (plunge) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) εἰς (into) ὄλεθρον (ruin) καὶ (and) ἀπώλειαν (destruction).

²⁶ καὶ (and) ἀνανήψωσιν (they might come to their senses) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil) παγίδος (snare), ἐζωγρημένοι (having been captured) ὑπ’ (by) αὐτοῦ (him) εἰς (for) τὸ (-) ἐκείνου (his) θέλημα (will).

⁵ σώφρονας (self-controlled), ἁγνάς (pure), οἰκουργούς (keepers at home), ἀγαθάς (kind), ὑποτασσομένας (being subject) τοῖς (to the) ἰδίοις (own) ἀνδράσιν (husbands), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) βλασφημῆται (should be maligned).

⁸ λόγον (speech) ὑγιῆ (sound), ἀκατάγνωστον (beyond reproach), ἵνα (so that) ὁ (he who is) ἐξ (of the) ἐναντίας (contrary) ἐντραπῇ (may be ashamed), μηδὲν (nothing) ἔχων (having) λέγειν (to say) περὶ (concerning) ἡμῶν (us) φαῦλον (evil).

¹⁴ Εἰ (If) ὀνειδίζεσθε (you are insulted) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), μακάριοι (you are blessed), ὅτι (because) τὸ (the) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (-) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀναπαύεται (rests). ¹⁵ μὴ (Not) γάρ (for) τις (any) ὑμῶν (of you) πασχέτω (let suffer) ὡς (as) φονεὺς (a murderer), ἢ (or) κλέπτης (a thief), ἢ (or) κακοποιὸς (an evildoer), ἢ (or) ὡς (as) ἀλλοτριεπίσκοπος (a troublesome meddler); ¹⁶ εἰ (if) δὲ (however) ὡς (as) Χριστιανός (a Christian), μὴ (not) αἰσχυνέσθω (let him be ashamed); δοξαζέτω (let him glorify) δὲ (however) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τούτῳ (this).

¹² Δημητρίῳ (To Demetrius) μεμαρτύρηται (witness has been given) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all), καὶ (and) ὑπὸ (by) αὐτῆς (itself) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth); καὶ (and) ἡμεῖς (we) δὲ (also) μαρτυροῦμεν (bear witness), καὶ (and) οἶδας (you know) ὅτι (that) ἡ (the) μαρτυρία (testimony) ἡμῶν (of us) ἀληθής (true) ἐστιν (is).
