¹² Rejoice, and leap for joy; for great is your reward in heaven: for so did they persecute the prophets who were before you.

¹ Beware of doing your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. ² When, therefore, you do a charitable deed, do not cause a trumpet to be sounded before you, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Verily, I say to you, They have their reward.

³⁵ And the vine-dressers took his servants, and scourged one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them in like manner.

³¹ So then you testify against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² Do you also fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents, generation of vipers, how can you escape the condemnation of hell? ³⁴ For this reason, behold, I send you prophets and wise men and scribes; and some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood which has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just to the blood of Zachariah, the son of Barachiah, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest those who are sent to thee, how often have I desired to gather thy children together, as a bird gathers her young under her wings, and you refused.

⁴¹ And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, that the babe in her womb leaped for joy.

⁴⁴ For, behold, when the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.

³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be sons of the Most High: for he is kind to the unthankful and the evil.

¹⁰ For this reason, I take pleasure in infirmities, in outrages, in necessities, in persecutions, in straits, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up what remains of my sufferings for Christ in my flesh for the sake of his body, which is the church,

¹⁴ For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Judea which are in Christ Jesus; for you, also, have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, that they have suffered from the Jews, ¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have persecuted us, and do not please God, and are opposed to all men,

⁵ which endurance, of yours is a proof of the righteous judgment of God, in order that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you suffer: ⁶ since, indeed, it is a righteous thing with God, to repay affliction to those who afflict you, ⁷ and to you that are afflicted, rest with us, at the revelation of our Lord Jesus from heaven with his mighty angels,

¹² if we are patient, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us;

⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith: ⁸ henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me at that day; and not to me only, but to all those who love his appearing.

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

²⁶ esteeming the reproach on account of the Christ as greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he earnestly looked to the reward.

³² And what further shall I say? For the time would fail me, were I to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah, of David also and Samuel, and of the prophets, ³³ who, through faith, subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, closed the mouths of lions, ³⁴ quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. ³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: but others were beat to death, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection; ³⁶ others had trial of mockings and scourgings, bonds also, and imprisonments. ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in. sheep-skins, in goat-skins, being destitute, afflicted, oppressed with evils, ³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy,) wandering in deserts, and in mountains, and in caverns, and in dens of the earth. ³⁹ And all these, having obtained a good reputation by faith, received not the promise,

² My brethren, count it all joy, when you fall into manifold trials,

¹³ But, inasmuch as you are partakers of the sufferings of the Christ,, rejoice, that, at the revelation of his glory, you may also be exceedingly joyful.

⁷ He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: To him that overcomes, I will give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

¹⁰ Fear none of the things which you are about to suffer; behold, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tried: and you shall have affliction ten days. Be faithful till death, and I will give you the crown of life. ¹¹ He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He that overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.

¹⁷ He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him that overcomes, I will give of the hidden manna; and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he that receives it.

²⁶ And to him that overcomes, and keeps my works to the end, will I give authority over the nations;

⁵ He that overcomes, shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot his name out of the book of life: and I will con fess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

¹² Him that overcomes, I will make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out no more; and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God, and I will write upon him my new name.

⁷ He that overcomes, shall inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
