³ And Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.

¹ Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear Jehovah: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two children to be bondmen.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous;
But Jehovah delivereth him out of them all.

⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth,
And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened [us] as seemed good to them; but he for [our] profit, that [we] may be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, [even the fruit] of righteousness.
