⁵ If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand forget [her skill].

² that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. ³ And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
⁴ And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,

² And the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid. ³ And I said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?

How amiable are thy tabernacles,
O Jehovah of hosts! ² My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of Jehovah;
My heart and my flesh cry out unto the living God.

¹⁰ For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

¹³ Thou wilt arise, and have mercy upon Zion;
For it is time to have pity upon her,
Yea, the set time is come. ¹⁴ For thy servants take pleasure in her stones,
And have pity upon her dust.

⁵ For there are set thrones for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David. ⁶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
They shall prosper that love thee. ⁷ Peace be within thy walls,
And prosperity within thy palaces. ⁸ For my brethren and companions' sakes,
I will now say, Peace be within thee. ⁹ For the sake of the house of Jehovah our God
I will seek thy good.

¹ For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burneth.

⁶ I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that are Jehovah's remembrancers, take ye no rest, ⁷ and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

⁵⁰ Ye that have escaped the sword, go ye, stand not still; remember Jehovah from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

¹⁰ And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem); and he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. ¹¹ Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.

¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.
