¹ Now all the publicans and sinners were drawing near unto him to hear him.
² And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. ³ And he spake unto them this parable, saying, ⁴ { What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? ⁵ And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. ⁷ I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.
⁸ Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? ⁹ And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost. ¹⁰ Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.}
¹¹ And he said, { A certain man had two sons: ¹² and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. ¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living. ¹⁴ And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want. ¹⁵ And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. ¹⁶ And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. ¹⁷ But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: ¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son. ²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: ²³ and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry: ²⁴ for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. ²⁵ Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ And he called to him one of the servants, and inquired what these things might be. ²⁷ And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. ²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in: and his father came out, and entreated him. ²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: ³⁰ but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf. ³¹ And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that is mine is thine. ³² But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found.}

²⁷ Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. ¹¹ And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners? ¹² But when he heard it, he said, { They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick. ¹³ But go ye and learn what [this] meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.}

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. ²⁹ And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I [go], sir: and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

²⁹ And Levi made him a great feast in his house: and there was a great multitude of publicans and of others that were sitting at meat with them. ³⁰ And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with the publicans and sinners? ³¹ And Jesus answering said unto them, { They that are in health have no need of a physician; but they that are sick. ³² I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.}

²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

³⁰ And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.}

²⁰ And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:

¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:

¹¹ And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners?

³⁰ And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with the publicans and sinners?

³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.

²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: ³⁰ but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner.

³ saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

⁹ I wrote unto you in my epistle to have no company with fornicators; ¹⁰ not at all [meaning] with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world: ¹¹ but as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.

¹² For before that certain came from James, he ate with the Gentiles; but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing them that were of the circumcision.

¹⁷⁶ I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant;
For I do not forget thy commandments.

⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

⁶ My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains; they have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting-place.

⁸ As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely forasmuch as my sheep became a prey, and my sheep became food to all the beasts of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my sheep;

¹¹ For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. ¹² As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

¹⁶ I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will feed them in justice.

³¹ And ye my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord Jehovah.

¹¹ And he said unto them, { What man shall there be of you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

¹² How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray? ¹³ And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray. ¹⁴ Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

¹⁵ But the Lord answered him, and said, { Ye hypocrites, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

⁴ { What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? ⁵ And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and his neighbors, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. ⁷ I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

¹⁰ For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.}

¹⁵ even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. ¹⁶ And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd.

²⁶ But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep. ²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: ²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.

¹ Wherefore thou art without excuse, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest dost practise the same things.

²⁵ For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

¹⁰ Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. ¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, [and] will gently lead those that have their young.

³ Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, that have been borne [by me] from their birth, that have been carried from the womb; ⁴ and even to old age I am he, and even to hoar hairs will I carry [you]; I have made, and I will bear; yea, I will carry, and will deliver.

¹⁰ Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.

⁵ For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee; and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

¹² And they shall call them The holy people, The redeemed of Jehovah: and thou shalt be called Sought out, A city not forsaken.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

⁴¹ Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul. ⁴² For thus saith Jehovah: Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

²³ Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

¹¹ Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

⁴ And he shall stand, and shall feed [his flock] in the strength of Jehovah, in the majesty of the name of Jehovah his God: and they shall abide; for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness.

¹⁷ Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

²³ and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry: ²⁴ for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

³² But it was meet to make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive [again]; and [was] lost, and is found.}

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, { To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

⁴³ And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, { My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work. ³⁵ Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.

¹¹ These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and [that] your joy may be made full.

¹ But Saul, yet breathing threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, ² and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the synagogues, that if he found any that were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. ³ And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven: ⁴ and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? ⁵ And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], { I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: ⁶ but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.} ⁷ And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no man. ⁸ And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. ⁹ And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink.
¹⁰ Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said unto him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I [am here], Lord. ¹¹ And the Lord [said] unto him, { Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth; ¹² and he hath seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.} ¹³ But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he did to thy saints at Jerusalem: ¹⁴ and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name. ¹⁵ But the Lord said unto him, { Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel: ¹⁶ for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake.}

²⁰ And Isaiah is very bold, and saith,
I was found of them that sought me not;
I became manifest unto them that asked not of me. ²¹ But as to Israel he saith, All the day long did I spread out my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

¹⁹ and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might ²⁰ which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly [places],

³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:— ⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved), ⁶ and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly [places], in Christ Jesus:

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.

⁷ whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of that grace of God which was given me according to the working of his power.

⁵ how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and [in] much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.

²⁶ and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will.

³ For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared, ⁵ not by works [done] in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour; ⁷ that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

² looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of [our] faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁵ who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹⁰ Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn over her; ¹¹ that ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men in whom he is well pleased.

⁷ I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.

¹⁰ Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.}

²⁴ for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

²⁹ He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is made full.

¹⁴ Ye are my friends, if ye do the things which I command you.

²³ who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord:

³ They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

⁴ always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,

¹⁷ Yea, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all:

¹ Wherefore, my brethren beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my beloved.

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of glorying? Are not even ye, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

⁷ for this cause, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith: ⁸ for now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanksgiving can we render again unto God for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

¹⁰ who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes,
And yet are not washed from their filthiness.

¹³ And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray.

³² I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.}

²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and [yet] thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

¹⁵ And he said unto them, { Ye are they that justify yourselves in the sight of men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

⁹ And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought: ¹⁰ { Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

⁹ And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;

⁶ as touching zeal, persecuting the church; as touching the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless. ⁷ Howbeit what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ.

¹² As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

¹⁶ And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd.

⁵² and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.

¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh:

¹³ And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.
¹⁴ Now after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate; and he compassed Ophel about [with it], and raised it up to a very great height: and he put valiant captains in all the fortified cities of Judah. ¹⁵ And he took away the foreign gods, and the idol out of the house of Jehovah, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of Jehovah, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. ¹⁶ And he built up the altar of Jehovah, and offered thereon sacrifices of peace-offerings and of thanksgiving, and commanded Judah to serve Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁷ Nevertheless the people sacrificed still in the high places, but only unto Jehovah their God.
¹⁸ Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel, behold, they are written among the acts of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ His prayer also, and how [God] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.

³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah: wherefore turn yourselves, and live.

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.

¹⁴ Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, who hath been crucified. ⁶ He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. ⁷ And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead; and lo, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

¹ Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Cζsar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled. ² This was the first enrolment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria. ³ And all went to enrol themselves, every one to his own city. ⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judζa, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David; ⁵ to enrol himself with Mary, who was betrothed to him, being great with child. ⁶ And it came to pass, while they were there, the days were fulfilled that she should be delivered. ⁷ And she brought forth her firstborn son; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
⁸ And there were shepherds in the same country abiding in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock. ⁹ And an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. ¹⁰ And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people: ¹¹ for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this [is] the sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.

⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little.}

⁵ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.}

¹⁹ But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them out, and said,

³ He saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius. ⁴ And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God. ⁵ And now send men to Joppa, and fetch one Simon, who is surnamed Peter:

¹⁸ And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, [a repentance] which bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

¹⁵ For perhaps he was therefore parted [from thee] for a season, that thou shouldest have him for ever;

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?

¹¹ And I saw, and I heard a voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a great voice,
Worthy is the Lamb that hath been slain to receive the power, and riches, and wisdom, and might, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every created thing which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things that are in them, heard I saying,
Unto him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, [be] the blessing, and the honor, and the glory, and the dominion, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped.

²³ And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? ²⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto them, { I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men?} And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him? ²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, { Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

¹⁶ then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the first-born before the son of the hated, who is the first-born: ¹⁷ but he shall acknowledge the first-born, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the first-born is his.

⁵ Jehovah is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:
Thou maintainest my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places;
Yea, I have a goodly heritage.

¹⁴ From men by thy hand, O Jehovah,
From men of the world, whose portion is in [this] life,
And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:
They are satisfied with children,
And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

⁴⁴ for they all did cast in of their superfluity; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, [even] all her living.}

³⁰ but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

¹ Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. ² And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, after the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel. ³ For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baalim, and made Asheroth, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. ⁴ And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, whereof Jehovah said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. ⁵ And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of Jehovah. ⁶ He also made his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom; and he practised augury, and used enchantments, and practised sorcery, and dealt with them that had familiar spirits, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. ⁷ And he set the graven image of the idol, which he had made, in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever: ⁸ neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers, if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law and the statutes and the ordinances [given] by Moses. ⁹ And Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did evil more than did the nations whom Jehovah destroyed before the children of Israel.
¹⁰ And Jehovah spake to Manasseh, and to his people; but they gave no heed.

¹³ They spend their days in prosperity,
And in a moment they go down to Sheol. ¹⁴ And they say unto God, Depart from us;
For we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?
And what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us;
And, What can the Almighty do for us? ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things:
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

⁴ The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, [saith],
He will not require [it].
All his thoughts are,
There is no God. ⁵ His ways are firm at all times;
Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:
As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them. ⁶ He saith in his heart, I shall not be moved;
To all generations I shall not be in adversity.

²⁷ For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish:
Thou hast destroyed all them that play the harlot, [departing] from thee.

⁸ Remove thy way far from her,
And come not nigh the door of her house; ⁹ Lest thou give thine honor unto others,
And thy years unto the cruel; ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with thy strength,
And thy labors [be] in the house of an alien, ¹¹ And thou mourn at thy latter end,
When thy flesh and thy body are consumed, ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction,
And my heart despised reproof; ¹³ Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers,
Nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was well-nigh in all evil
In the midst of the assembly and congregation.

²⁶ For on account of a harlot [a man is brought] to a piece of bread;
And the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.

⁹ He also that is slack in his work
Is brother to him that is a destroyer.

¹⁷ He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:
He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

²⁰ There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise;
But a foolish man swalloweth it up.

¹⁹ Hear thou, my son, and be wise,
And guide thy heart in the way. ²⁰ Be not among winebibbers,
Among gluttonous eaters of flesh: ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty;
And drowsiness will clothe [a man] with rags. ²² Hearken unto thy father that begat thee,
And despise not thy mother when she is old.

⁸ As a bird that wandereth from her nest,
So is a man that wandereth from his place.

⁷ Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son;
But he that is a companion of gluttons shameth his father.

³ Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father;
But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh; for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.

⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that deal corruptly! they have forsaken Jehovah, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are estranged [and gone] backward.

¹³ and behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we shall die.

¹¹ get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

¹² Come ye, [say they], I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to-morrow shall be as this day, [a day] great beyond measure.

⁵ Thus saith Jehovah, What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

¹³ For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

¹⁷ Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, when he led thee by the way? ¹⁸ And now what hast thou to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? or what hast thou to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? ¹⁹ Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? wherefore say my people, We are broken loose; we will come no more unto thee?

³ —ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ that sing idle songs to the sound of the viol; that invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
⁷ Therefore shall they now go captive with the first that go captive; and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass away.

³ O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

¹ And he said also unto the disciples, { There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he was wasting his goods.

¹⁹ Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, faring sumptuously every day:

¹³ Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

¹³ But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are made nigh in the blood of Christ.

³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴ wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of [you]:

¹³ suffering wrong as the hire of wrong-doing; [men] that count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you;

¹¹ Wherefore Jehovah brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

²⁷ Behold therefore, I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary [food], and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, that are ashamed of thy lewd way.

⁹ Therefore will I take back my grain in the time thereof, and my new wine in the season thereof, and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness. ¹⁰ And now will I uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of my hand. ¹¹ I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feasts, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies. ¹² And I will lay waste her vines and her fig-trees, whereof she hath said, These are my hire that my lovers have given me; and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. ¹³ And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, unto which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith Jehovah.
¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.

⁹ And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day. ¹⁰ And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning for an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
¹¹ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord Jehovah, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Jehovah. ¹² And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.

³ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

²² And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz.

⁵ Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

⁹ Except Jehovah of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
¹⁰ Hear the word of Jehovah, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ What unto me is the multitude of your sacrifices? saith Jehovah: I have had enough of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; new moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies,—I cannot away with iniquity and the solemn meeting.

¹⁷ For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid [my face] and was wroth; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

³ O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

⁴ Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Shall men fall, and not rise up again? Shall one turn away, and not return? ⁵ Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return. ⁶ I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repenteth him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turneth to his course, as a horse that rusheth headlong in the battle.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself [thus], Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed [to the yoke]: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

⁵² Thou also, bear thou thine own shame, in that thou hast given judgment for thy sisters; through thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.

⁶³ that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more, because of thy shame, when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord Jehovah.

⁶ And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazing-stock.

⁹ Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have had respect of persons in the law.

³² Now there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they entreated him that he would give them leave to enter into them. And he gave them leave. ³³ And the demons came out from the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, and were drowned. ³⁴ And when they that fed them saw what had come to pass, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country.

¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living.

²⁴ Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves: ²⁵ for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
²⁶ For this cause God gave them up unto vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:

²² But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.

⁹ Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

² wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart; ¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

¹¹ and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them; ¹² for the things which are done by them in secret it is a shame even to speak of.

⁵ Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; ⁶ for which things' sake cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience: ⁷ wherein ye also once walked, when ye lived in these things;

²⁵ in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will.

³ For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

²¹ And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth not to repent of her fornication. ²² Behold, I cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of her works.

²² So brutish was I, and ignorant;
I was [as] a beast before thee.

⁴ Look on [my] right hand, and see;
For there is no man that knoweth me:
Refuge hath failed me;
No man careth for my soul.

²⁰ He feedeth on ashes; a deceived heart hath turned him aside; and he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

² Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

³ But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the harlot.

⁵ They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets:
They that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

¹ Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

² And he said,

I called by reason of mine affliction unto Jehovah,
And he answered me;
Out of the belly of Sheol cried I,
[And] thou heardest my voice. ³ For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas,
And the flood was round about me;
All thy waves and thy billows passed over me. ⁴ And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes;
Yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. ⁵ The waters compassed me about, even to the soul;
The deep was round about me;
The weeds were wrapped about my head. ⁶ I went down to the bottoms of the mountains;
The earth with its bars [closed] upon me for ever:
Yet hast thou brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my God. ⁷ When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah;
And my prayer came in unto thee, into thy holy temple. ⁸ They that regard lying vanities
Forsake their own mercy.

¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members [as] servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members [as] servants to righteousness unto sanctification. ²⁰ For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness. ²¹ What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh,
So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that [they go] to the dead.

¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

⁷ Jerusalem remembereth in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of old:
When her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and none did help her,
The adversaries saw her, they did mock at her desolations.

²⁸ Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

³⁵ And they went out to see what had come to pass; and they came to Jesus, and found the man, from whom the demons were gone out, sitting, clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus: and they were afraid.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: ¹⁹ I am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

³⁷ Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

²⁹ And he called for lights and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell down before Paul and Silas, ³⁰ and brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

¹¹ And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities. ¹² Whereupon as I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, ¹³ at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me. ¹⁴ And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying unto me in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the goad. ¹⁵ And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, { I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. ¹⁶ But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things wherein thou hast seen me, and of the things wherein I will appear unto thee; ¹⁷ delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee, ¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.} ¹⁹ Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),

¹⁴ Wherefore [he] saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.

⁴ But when the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared, ⁵ not by works [done] in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

¹⁶ Be not deceived, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning. ¹⁸ Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

⁴⁰ And they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me, and also that, because they walked contrary unto me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary unto them, and brought them into the land of their enemies: if then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity;

⁴⁷ yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captive, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedly; ⁴⁸ if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
³¹ And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save thy life.

³ Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? ⁴ If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there; and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

¹² And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed unto him; and he was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.

¹⁹ His prayer also, and how [God] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.

²⁷ He singeth before men, and saith,
I have sinned, and perverted that which was right,
And it profited me not: ²⁸ He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit,
And my life shall behold the light.

⁸ And if they be bound in fetters,
And be taken in the cords of afflictions; ⁹ Then he showeth them their work,
And their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly. ¹⁰ He openeth also their ear to instruction,
And commandeth that they return from iniquity.

¹¹ For thy name's sake, O Jehovah,
Pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.

³ When I kept silence, my bones wasted away
Through my groaning all the day long. ⁴ For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:
My moisture was changed [as] with the drought of summer. [Selah
⁵ I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
And mine iniquity did I not hide:
I said, I will confess my transgressions unto Jehovah;
And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. [Selah

³ For I know my transgressions;
And my sin is ever before me. ⁴ Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
And done that which is evil in thy sight;
That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest,
And be clear when thou judgest. ⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity;
And in sin did my mother conceive me.

³ The cords of death compassed me,
And the pains of Sheol gat hold upon me:
I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then called I upon the name of Jehovah:
O Jehovah, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. ⁵ Gracious is Jehovah, and righteous;
Yea, our God is merciful. ⁶ Jehovah preserveth the simple:
I was brought low, and he saved me. ⁷ Return unto thy rest, O my soul;
For Jehovah hath dealt bountifully with thee.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child;
[For] if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.

¹⁶ For thou art our Father, though Abraham knoweth us not, and Israel doth not acknowledge us: thou, O Jehovah, art our Father; our Redeemer from everlasting is thy name.

¹⁹ But I said, How I will put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of the nations! and I said, Ye shall call me My Father, and shall not turn away from following me.

⁶ For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto Jehovah our God.
⁷ For thus saith Jehovah, Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Jehovah, save thy people, the remnant of Israel. ⁸ Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, [and] with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall they return hither. ⁹ They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.

²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a darling child? for as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my heart yearneth for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith Jehovah.

⁴ In those days, and in that time, saith Jehovah, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek Jehovah their God. ⁵ They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces thitherward, [saying], Come ye, and join yourselves to Jehovah in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

¹⁸ And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.
¹⁹ Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me. ²¹ This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope. ²² [It is of] Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

²⁹ Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

²⁶ And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

⁶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths. ⁷ And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.

¹ O Israel, return unto Jehovah thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. ² Take with you words, and return unto Jehovah: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good: so will we render [as] bullocks [the offering of] our lips. ³ Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, [Ye are] our gods; for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

⁴ And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes;
Yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

⁹ Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

⁶ and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁹ After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

¹⁴ For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

¹¹ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

² And he said unto them, { When ye pray, say, Father, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.

²¹ And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight: I am no more worthy to be called thy son.

¹³ But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be thou merciful to me a sinner.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the lovingkindnesses, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two companies.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were sore afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now, behold, we are in thy hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.

⁶ Wherefore I abhor [myself],
And repent in dust and ashes.

¹⁰ For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

²⁶ And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs. ²⁷ But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

⁸ But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

⁶ And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: ⁷ wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.

⁹ For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

¹³ though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; ¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: ¹⁶ howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you.

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

¹⁴ And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.

²⁹ And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen; and he presented himself unto him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

² and shalt return unto Jehovah thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul; ³ that then Jehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither Jehovah thy God hath scattered thee. ⁴ If [any of] thine outcasts be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will Jehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:

⁵ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive,
And abundant in lovingkindness unto all them that call upon thee.

¹⁵ But thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.

¹⁰ He hath not dealt with us after our sins,
Nor rewarded us after our iniquities. ¹¹ For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is his lovingkindness toward them that fear him. ¹² As far as the east is from the west,
So far hath he removed our transgressions from us. ¹³ Like as a father pitieth his children,
So Jehovah pitieth them that fear him.

¹⁵ Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, these may forget, yet will not I forget thee.

⁶ Seek ye Jehovah while he may be found; call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. ⁸ For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

¹⁸ I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

⁶ And when I passed by thee, and saw thee weltering in thy blood, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live; yea, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live. ⁷ I caused thee to multiply as that which groweth in the field, and thou didst increase and wax great, and thou attainedst to excellent ornament; thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair was grown; yet thou wast naked and bare. ⁸ Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou becamest mine.

⁸ How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I cast thee off, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboiim? my heart is turned within me, my compassions are kindled together.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness. ¹⁹ He will again have compassion upon us; he will tread our iniquities under foot; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.

³⁷ And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him,

⁴ Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,
And done that which is evil in thy sight;
That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest,
And be clear when thou judgest.

² And enter not into judgment with thy servant;
For in thy sight no man living is righteous.

¹³ Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against Jehovah thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith Jehovah.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

¹² And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.

⁴² And Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

²⁵ Thy bars shall be iron and brass;
And as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.

² And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

³³ He maketh my feet like hinds' [feet]:
And setteth me upon my high places.

¹³ The king's daughter within [the palace] is all glorious:
Her clothing is inwrought with gold.

⁹ Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness;
And let thy saints shout for joy.

¹⁶ Her priests also will I clothe with salvation;
And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

¹ How beautiful are thy feet in sandals, O prince's daughter!
Thy rounded thighs are like jewels,
The work of the hands of a skilful workman.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with a garland, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

⁹ Then washed I thee with water; yea, I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. ¹⁰ I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and covered thee with silk. ¹¹ And I decked thee with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. ¹² And I put a ring upon thy nose, and ear-rings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head. ¹³ Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper unto royal estate.

³ Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. ⁴ And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take the filthy garments from off him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with rich apparel. ⁵ And I said, Let them set a clean mitre upon his head. So they set a clean mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments; and the angel of Jehovah was standing by.

¹¹ But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: ¹² and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.

²² even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction;

¹⁵ For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof].

²⁷ For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.

⁵ that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. ⁶ And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

¹³ in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,—in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, ¹⁴ which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of [God's] own possession, unto the praise of his glory.

²² that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit; ²³ and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind, ²⁴ and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

¹⁵ and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

¹⁷ He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.

⁴ But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments: and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy. ⁵ He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and [that] the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.

¹¹ And there was given them to each one a white robe; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little time, until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, who should be killed even as they were, should have fulfilled [their course].

⁹ After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of [all] tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands;

¹³ And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, These that are arrayed in the white robes, who are they, and whence came they? ¹⁴ And I say unto him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they that come out of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

⁸ And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright [and] pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

⁷ And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto the servant; and he hasted to dress it.

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;

² She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine;
She hath also furnished her table:

⁶ And in this mountain will Jehovah of hosts make unto all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

¹³ Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be put to shame; ¹⁴ behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for vexation of spirit.

² { The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son, ³ and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come. ⁴ Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast. ⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; ⁶ and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them. ⁷ But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. ⁸ Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast. ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests. ¹¹ But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: ¹² and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few chosen.}

²⁸ and Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.

¹⁰ and the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

¹¹ that ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.

¹² And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of Jehovah, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ¹⁴ And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith Jehovah.
¹⁵ Thus saith Jehovah: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not. ¹⁶ Thus saith Jehovah: Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith Jehovah; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. ¹⁷ And there is hope for thy latter end, saith Jehovah; and [thy] children shall come again to their own border.

⁴ The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought back that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with rigor have ye ruled over them.

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.

¹² How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray? ¹³ And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth over it more than over the ninety and nine which have not gone astray.

²² And they come unto Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him.

¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.

⁴ { What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and having lost one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

⁷ I say unto you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, [more] than over ninety and nine righteous persons, who need no repentance.
⁸ Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it? ⁹ And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.

²⁵ Jesus said unto her, { I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live;

¹¹ Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.

¹³ neither present your members unto sin [as] instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them [is] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

²⁶ And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or [one] member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died; ¹⁵ and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.

¹ And you [did he make alive], when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins,

⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),

¹³ And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, [I say], did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses;

⁶ But she that giveth herself to pleasure is dead while she liveth.

¹² These are they who are hidden rocks in your love-feasts when they feast with you, shepherds that without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

¹ { And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:
These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead.

²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

¹⁴ And David danced before Jehovah with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

¹¹ Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing;
Thou hast loosed my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

¹ A Song of Ascents.

When Jehovah brought back those that returned to Zion,
We were like unto them that dream.

³ Let them praise his name in the dance:
Let them sing praises unto him with timbrel and harp.

⁴ Praise him with timbrel and dance:
Praise him with stringed instruments and pipe.

⁴ a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

⁴ Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

³² They are like unto children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; who say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not weep.

¹¹ And he said, { A certain man had two sons: ¹² and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

¹⁷ And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

¹³ came unto me, and standing by me said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And in that very hour I looked up on him.

¹⁶ no longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

⁵ but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And Jehovah said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? ⁷ If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door; and unto thee shall be its desire; but do thou rule over it.

²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

⁸ And Saul was very wroth, and this saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

⁵ that say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me, for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

⁵ Hear the word of Jehovah, ye that tremble at his word: Your brethren that hate you, that cast you out for my name's sake, have said, Let Jehovah be glorified, that we may see your joy; but it is they that shall be put to shame.

¹ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. ² And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repentest thee of the evil. ³ Therefore now, O Jehovah, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. ⁴ And Jehovah said, Doest thou well to be angry?

⁹ And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

¹¹ And when they received it, they murmured against the householder,

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen [gathereth] her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!

² And both the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

² But the Jews that were disobedient stirred up the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil affected against the brethren.

¹⁹ But there came Jews thither from Antioch and Iconium: and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee forth far hence unto the Gentiles.
²² And they gave him audience unto this word; and they lifted up their voice, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

¹⁹ But I say, Did Israel not know? First Moses saith,
I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation,
With a nation void of understanding will I anger you.

²⁰ We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech [you] on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always: but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of Jehovah: I have performed the commandment of Jehovah. ¹⁴ And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

² Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near unto God. ³ Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labors.

³ [and] to speak unto the priests of the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

¹² But ye profane it, in that ye say, The table of Jehovah is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even its food, is contemptible. ¹³ Ye say also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith Jehovah of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering: should I accept this at your hand? saith Jehovah.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?

¹² saying, These last have spent [but] one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.

¹⁰ Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do.}

⁹ And he spake also this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought:

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get.

²⁰ Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and mother.} ²¹ And he said, All these things have I observed from my youth up.

²¹ for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow.

²⁰ because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law [cometh] the knowledge of sin.

²⁷ Where then is the glorying? It is excluded. By what manner of law? of works? Nay: but by a law of faith.

³ For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

⁴ though I myself might have confidence even in the flesh: if any other man thinketh to have confidence in the flesh, I yet more: ⁵ circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; ⁶ as touching zeal, persecuting the church; as touching the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:

⁷ And Jehovah spake unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, that thou broughtest up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

¹¹ And Moses besought Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, that thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

¹² and the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of [thy] substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. ¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country; and there he wasted his substance with riotous living.

²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: ²³ and bring the fatted calf, [and] kill it, and let us eat, and make merry:

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

¹³ But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling? ¹⁴ Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee. ¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good? ¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last.}

²⁷ And he said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs. ²⁸ But she answered and saith unto him, Yea, Lord; even the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²² He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow; ²³ then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest?

⁴ who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises;

¹ I say then, Did God cast off his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

³⁵ or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

⁸ Make me to hear joy and gladness,
That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

⁹ Who is wise, that he may understand these things? prudent, that he may know them? for the ways of Jehovah are right, and the just shall walk in them; but transgressors shall fall therein.

¹⁰ And Jehovah said, Thou hast had regard for the gourd, for which thou hast not labored, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: ¹¹ and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

⁴ God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written,
That thou mightest be justified in thy words,
And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

⁹ and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,
Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles,
And sing unto thy name. ¹⁰ And again he saith,
Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again,
Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles;
And let all the peoples praise him. ¹² And again, Isaiah saith,
There shall be the root of Jesse,
And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles;
On him shall the Gentiles hope. ¹³ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹ And you [did he make alive], when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins, ² wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:— ⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved), ⁶ and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly [places], in Christ Jesus: ⁷ that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus: ⁸ for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, [it is] the gift of God; ⁹ not of works, that no man should glory. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.
