⁴ But Jehovah sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

¹³ And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and Jehovah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

¹⁹ And Jehovah turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and Jehovah caused the sea to go [back] by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them:
They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

³¹ And there went forth a wind from Jehovah, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits above the face of the earth.

²³ They that go down to the sea in ships,
That do business in great waters; ²⁴ These see the works of Jehovah,
And his wonders in the deep. ²⁵ For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
Which lifteth up the waves thereof. ²⁶ They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths:
Their soul melteth away because of trouble. ²⁷ They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits' end. ²⁸ Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,
And he bringeth them out of their distresses. ²⁹ He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still. ³⁰ Then are they glad because they are quiet;
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven. ³¹ Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!

⁷ Who causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
Who maketh lightnings for the rain;
Who bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries;

¹³ For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought; that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth—Jehovah, the God of hosts, is his name.

²⁴ And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. ²⁵ And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save, Lord; we perish. ²⁶ And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. ²⁷ And the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

¹³ And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close in shore. ¹⁴ But after no long time there beat down from it a tempestuous wind, which is called Euraquilo: ¹⁵ and when the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way [to it], and were driven. ¹⁶ And running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat: ¹⁷ and when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, under-girding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast upon the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and so were driven. ¹⁸ And as we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw [the freight] overboard; ¹⁹ and the third day they cast out with their own hands the tackling of the ship. ²⁰ And when neither sun nor stars shone upon [us] for many days, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved was now taken away.
