¹¹ Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

²⁰ But the prophet, that shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.

²³ Yet, Jehovah, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me; forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight; but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thou with them in the time of thine anger.

⁴ Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them: for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

⁶⁶ what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death.

¹ And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate. ² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cζsar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king. ³ And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest. ⁴ And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man. ⁵ But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judζa, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.

³⁰ They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

⁷ The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

¹¹ Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council, ¹³ and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against this holy place, and the law: ¹⁴ for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered unto us.

²² And they gave him audience unto this word; and they lifted up their voice, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

⁴ But, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I entreat thee to hear us of thy clemency a few words. ⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: ⁶ who moreover assayed to profane the temple: on whom also we laid hold:

⁸ from whom thou wilt be able, by examining him thyself, to take knowledge of all these things whereof we accuse him. ⁹ And the Jews also joined in the charge, affirming that these things were so.

² And the chief priests and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul; and they besought him, ³ asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem; laying a plot to kill him on the way. ⁴ Howbeit Festus answered, that Paul was kept in charge at Cζsarea, and that he himself was about to depart [thither] shortly. ⁵ Let them therefore, saith he, that are of power among you go down with me, and if there is anything amiss in the man, let them accuse him.
⁶ And when he had tarried among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down unto Cζsarea; and on the morrow he sat on the judgment-seat, and commanded Paul to be brought. ⁷ And when he was come, the Jews that had come down from Jerusalem stood round about him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove; ⁸ while Paul said in his defense, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Cζsar, have I sinned at all. ⁹ But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me? ¹⁰ But Paul said, I am standing before Cζsar's judgment-seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou also very well knowest. ¹¹ If then I am a wrong-doer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die; but if none of those things is [true] whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up unto them. I appeal unto Cζsar. ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Thou hast appealed unto Cζsar: unto Cζsar shalt thou go.
¹³ Now when certain days were passed, Agrippa the King and Bernice arrived at Cζsarea, and saluted Festus.
