³⁵ and all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

¹⁸ And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what seemeth him good.

⁴ [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength:
Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?—

¹² Behold, he seizeth [the prey], who can hinder him?
Who will say unto him, What doest thou?
¹³ God will not withdraw his anger;
The helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.

¹³ But he is in one [mind], and who can turn him?
And what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

¹² Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just;
For God is greater than man.
¹³ Why dost thou strive against him,
For that he giveth not account of any of his matters?

¹⁴ If he set his heart upon himself,
[If] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; ¹⁵ All flesh shall perish together,
And man shall turn again unto dust.

¹⁹ That respecteth not the persons of princes,
Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;
For they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment they die, even at midnight;
The people are shaken and pass away,
And the mighty are taken away without hand.
²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,
And he seeth all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,
Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he needeth not further to consider a man,
That he should go before God in judgment. ²⁴ He breaketh in pieces mighty men [in ways] past finding out,
And setteth others in their stead.

²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?
And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?
Alike whether [it be done] unto a nation, or unto a man:

² Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty?
He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

⁹ Or hast thou an arm like God?
And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
¹⁰ Deck thyself now with excellency and dignity;
And array thyself with honor and majesty. ¹¹ Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger;
And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, [and] bring him low;
And tread down the wicked where they stand.

² I know that thou canst do all things,
And that no purpose of thine can be restrained.

⁸ Let all the earth fear Jehovah:
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. ⁹ For he spake, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast. ¹⁰ Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought;
He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect. ¹¹ The counsel of Jehovah standeth fast for ever,
The thoughts of his heart to all generations.

¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looketh forth
Upon all the inhabitants of the earth,

Hear this, all ye peoples;
Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,

³ But our God is in the heavens:
He hath done whatsoever he pleased.

⁶ Whatsoever Jehovah pleased, that hath he done,
In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps;

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding
Nor counsel against Jehovah.

²⁴ Jehovah of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely, as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: ²⁵ that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder. ²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. ²⁷ For Jehovah of hosts hath purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

⁹ With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee earnestly: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

¹⁵ Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. ¹⁶ And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering. ¹⁷ All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

²² [It is] he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in; ²³ that bringeth princes to nothing; that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. ²⁴ Yea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.

¹³ Yea, since the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who can hinder it?

⁹ Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? ¹⁰ Woe unto him that saith unto a father, What begettest thou? or to a woman, With what travailest thou?
¹¹ Thus saith Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: Ask me of the things that are to come; concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands, command ye me.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not [yet] done; saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure; ¹¹ calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country; yea, I have spoken, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed, I will also do it.

²⁵ At that season Jesus answered and said, { I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: ²⁶ yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight.

²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

³⁹ but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God.

⁵ And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he [said], { I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:

¹⁷ If then God gave unto them the like gift as [he did] also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?

¹⁹ Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will? ²⁰ Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out! ³⁴ For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? ³⁵ or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? ³⁶ For of him, and through him, and unto him, are all things. To him [be] the glory for ever. Amen.

¹⁶ For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

²² Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

¹¹ in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his will;

¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven and [things] on earth and [things] under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
