⁶ I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spoke: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

²⁸ And he said to his brothers, My money is restored; and, see, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God has done to us?

⁶ And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁰ And the king said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Why have you done so?

¹ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? ² O my God, I cry in the day time, but you hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

¹ To you will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if you be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

⁷ LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled.

³ I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

³ I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

⁴ O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?

⁹ My eye mourns by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily on you, I have stretched out my hands to you. ¹⁰ Will you show wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise you? Selah. ¹¹ Shall your loving kindness be declared in the grave? or your faithfulness in destruction? ¹² Shall your wonders be known in the dark? and your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? ¹³ But to you have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent you. ¹⁴ LORD, why cast you off my soul? why hide you your face from me?

²⁸ Then shall they call on me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

¹ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not. ² I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.

² I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

⁴ My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him.

¹ Where is your beloved gone, O you fairest among women? where is your beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with you.

¹⁷ And I will wait on the LORD, that hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

¹ And in that day you shall say, O LORD, I will praise you: though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comforted me.

² Why, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinks, because there is no water, and dies for thirst.

⁶ For the LORD has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when you were refused, said your God. ⁷ For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you. ⁸ In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on you, said the LORD your Redeemer.

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

² Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.

⁶ They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them.

¹⁵ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

¹³ Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, said the LORD of hosts:

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, you son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and sought him, saying, Send her away; for she cries after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith: be it to you even as you will. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said to him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁷² And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said to him, Before the cock crow twice, you shall deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock crow, you shall deny me thrice. ⁶² And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
