¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

¹¹ Who is like to you, O LORD, among the gods? who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

¹⁵ And as they that bore the ark were come to Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overflows all his banks all the time of harvest,)

¹⁵ These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, see, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

²¹ Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

² Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproves God, let him answer it. ³ Then Job answered the LORD, and said, ⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand on my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yes, twice; but I will proceed no further. ⁶ Then answered the LORD to Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ⁷ Gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you to me. ⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

¹⁰ None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

³ Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. ⁴ Hear, I beseech you, and I will speak: I will demand of you, and declare you to me. ⁵ I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear: but now my eye sees you.

⁷ You, even you, are to be feared: and who may stand in your sight when once you are angry?

⁶ For who in the heaven can be compared to the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the LORD?

⁸ O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like to you? or to your faithfulness round about you?

⁵ Who is like to the LORD our God, who dwells on high, ⁶ Who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

² And enter not into judgment with your servant: for in your sight shall no man living be justified.

²⁵ To whom then will you liken me, or shall I be equal? said the Holy One.

⁷ The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

⁵ If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling of Jordan?

²¹ And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the middle of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach to me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach to me? said the LORD.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

³ There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.

¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
