¹⁴ And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children's children, to the third and to the fourth generation.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

¹ Have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving kindness: according to the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

⁵ For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy to all them that call on you.

¹⁵ But you, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. ⁹ He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. ¹⁰ He has not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. ¹¹ For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. ¹² As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. ¹³ Like as a father pities his children, so the LORD pities them that fear him. ¹⁴ For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

¹⁵⁶ Great are your tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to your judgments.

⁴ But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.

⁹ The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

¹⁰ A righteous man regards the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

⁶ I was wroth with my people, I have polluted my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you did show them no mercy; on the ancient have you very heavily laid your yoke.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

² And he prayed to the LORD, and said, I pray you, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before to Tarshish: for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repent you of the evil.

¹⁸ Who is a God like to you, that pardons iniquity, and passes by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retains not his anger for ever, because he delights in mercy.

¹⁵ And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I to this hour.
