⁵ For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as you know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

² The wicked in his pride does persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. ³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors.

¹¹ So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

²⁰ And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. ⁸ And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ⁹ Of sin, because they believe not on me; ¹⁰ Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more; ¹¹ Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. ¹² I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. ¹³ However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. ¹⁴ He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it to you. ¹⁵ All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it to you.

³³ Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear.

⁴⁴ While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. ⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. ¹⁷ For as much then as God gave them the like gift as he did to us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? ¹⁸ When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then has God also to the Gentiles granted repentance to life.

²¹ And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned to the Lord.

¹⁴ And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended to the things which were spoken of Paul.

¹⁸ And when they were come to him, he said to them, You know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, ¹⁹ Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

³³ I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. ³⁴ Yes, you yourselves know, that these hands have ministered to my necessities, and to them that were with me. ³⁵ I have showed you all things, how that so laboring you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹⁶ In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not worked by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, ¹⁹ Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about to Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

²⁴ But to them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

² For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. ³ And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. ⁴ And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: ⁵ That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

¹⁶ Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

⁹ For I think that God has set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place; ¹² And labor, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things to this day.

²⁰ For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

¹⁹ For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; ²¹ To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. ²² To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. ²³ And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

³³ Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ⁹ To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ But all these works that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

⁶ Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; ² But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

³ Giving no offense in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: ⁴ But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings; ⁶ By pureness, by knowledge, by long-suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, ⁷ By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, ⁸ By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; ⁹ As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; ¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) ⁵ Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

⁸ But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. ⁹ As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel to you than that you have received, let him be accursed. ¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. ¹¹ But I certify you, brothers, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. ¹² For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

² And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

² This only would I learn of you, Received you the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? ³ Are you so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are you now made perfect by the flesh? ⁴ Have you suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. ⁵ He therefore that ministers to you the Spirit, and works miracles among you, does he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

⁵ For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

¹⁷ That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: ¹⁸ The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, ¹⁹ And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, ²⁰ Which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;)

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.

²⁰ Now to him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

¹³ For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

⁹ Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

² That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

¹ For yourselves, brothers, know our entrance in to you, that it was not in vain: ² But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as you know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much contention. ³ For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: ⁴ But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which tries our hearts. ⁵ For neither at any time used we flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness: ⁶ Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children: ⁸ So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted to you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us. ⁹ For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail: for laboring night and day, because we would not be chargeable to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. ¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how piously and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you that believe: ¹¹ As you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his children,

¹³ For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe. ¹⁴ Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁷ For yourselves know how you ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; ⁸ Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing; but worked with labor and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: ⁹ Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample to you to follow us.

¹² Let no man despise your youth; but be you an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. ¹³ Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. ¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. ¹⁵ Meditate on these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all. ¹⁶ Take heed to yourself, and to the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this you shall both save yourself, and them that hear you.

⁸ Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

¹⁰ Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

⁵ Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; ⁶ Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;

³ How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard him; ⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

¹¹ And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:

¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us: ¹⁹ Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil;

²² Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brothers. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no ficklenss, neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

¹² To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to us they did minister the things, which are now reported to you by them that have preached the gospel to you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

³ Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

¹⁰ Why the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall:

¹⁹ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto you do well that you take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
