And Saul said, God has delivered him into my hand; for he is shut in, by entering into a town that has gates and bars. ⁸ And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. ⁹ And David knew that Saul secretly practiced mischief against him; and he said to Abiathar the priest, Bring here the ephod. ¹⁰ Then said David, O LORD God of Israel, your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake. ¹¹ Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech you, tell your servant. And the LORD said, He will come down. ¹² Then said David, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver you up. ¹³ Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went wherever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he declined to go forth. ¹⁴ And David stayed in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And they told David; why he came down into a rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. ³⁶ For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

⁷ Then you shall rise up from the ambush, and seize on the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.

But he answered him not that day.

²⁰ And now, behold, I know well that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.

¹ And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. ⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray you, bring me here the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David. ⁸ And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for you shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. ⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed. ¹⁰ But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred stayed behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.

²¹ And Abner said to David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a league with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires. And David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.

¹ Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; ² Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah. ⁴ Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. ⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah. ⁶ I said to the LORD, You are my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. ⁷ O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. ⁸ Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. ⁹ As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.

¹⁶ For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

²¹ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁷ Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

¹² If a ruler listen to lies, all his servants are wicked.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment comes from the LORD.

⁹ Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. ¹⁰ For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falls; for he has not another to help him up. ¹¹ Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? ¹² And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

¹⁴ There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: ¹⁵ Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

¹⁴ My beloved is to me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

¹⁵ Woe to them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

³ Strengthen you the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

¹⁰ Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Fear not, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel; I will help you, said the LORD, and your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, said the LORD.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, you that tremble at his word; Your brothers that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

²³ O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps.

¹⁸ And the LORD has given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then you showed me their doings. ¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

⁵ If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the swelling of Jordan?

³ Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.

²⁶ But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand on it from Engedi even to Eneglaim; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many.

¹¹ The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean on the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come on us.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

¹⁵ You shall sow, but you shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but you shall not anoint you with oil; and sweet wine, but shall not drink wine.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: ⁸ For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

¹ After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

¹⁰ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them. ¹¹ And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁴³ For the days shall come on you, that your enemies shall cast a trench about you, and compass you round, and keep you in on every side, ⁴⁴ And shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone on another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.

³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you are converted, strengthen your brothers.

⁴³ And there appeared an angel to him from heaven, strengthening him.

² And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus often resorted thither with his disciples. ³ Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, comes thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

³⁹ But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it; lest haply you be found even to fight against God.

²⁴ But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

⁶ They were ware of it, and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the region that lies round about:

¹⁶ And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. ¹⁷ Then Paul called one of the centurions to him, and said, Bring this young man to the chief captain: for he has a certain thing to tell him. ¹⁸ So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to him, and prayed me to bring this young man to you, who has something to say to you.

¹⁶ And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.

¹⁵ Their feet are swift to shed blood: ¹⁶ Destruction and misery are in their ways:

³¹ What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

²⁴ Whenever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company.

⁸ For we would not, brothers, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life:

¹⁰ Finally, my brothers, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹ You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions, which came to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.

¹⁷ Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me to his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹² Why lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; ¹³ And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me.

¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

⁹ And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
