³¹ And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passes away.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them.

²⁰ As a dream when one wakes; so, O Lord, when you wake, you shall despise their image.

⁴ One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth stays for ever.

²⁴ There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. ²⁵ For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?

¹² I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. ¹³ And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God.

¹⁸ Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor that he takes under the sun all the days of his life, which God gives him: for it is his portion. ¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. ²⁰ For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answers him in the joy of his heart.

⁷ Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God now accepts your works. ⁸ Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment. ⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you take under the sun. ¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be on the earth.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know you, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

⁴⁸ But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; ⁴⁹ And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; ⁵⁰ The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods. ¹⁵ And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. ¹⁶ Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. ¹⁸ But he that had received one went and dig in the earth, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ After a long time the lord of those servants comes, and reckons with them. ²⁰ And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. ²¹ His lord said to him, Well done, you good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. ²² He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. ²³ His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your lord. ²⁴ Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you that you are an hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not strewed: ²⁵ And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: see, there you have that is yours. ²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed: ²⁷ You ought therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received my own with usury. ²⁸ Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him which has ten talents. ²⁹ For to every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

¹ And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he had wasted his goods. ² And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of you? give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.

¹⁷ And he said to him, Well, you good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have you authority over ten cities. ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, your pound has gained five pounds. ¹⁹ And he said likewise to him, Be you also over five cities. ²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is your pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: ²¹ For I feared you, because you are an austere man: you take up that you layed not down, and reap that you did not sow. ²² And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: ²³ Why then gave not you my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required my own with usury? ²⁴ And he said to them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that has ten pounds. ²⁵ (And they said to him, Lord, he has ten pounds.) ²⁶ For I say to you, That to every one which has shall be given; and from him that has not, even that he has shall be taken away from him.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come on you unawares.

¹⁸ What is my reward then? Truly that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; ¹⁸ That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it wither the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

¹⁴ Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

¹ Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corroded; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

²⁴ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass wither, and the flower thereof falls away:

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: be you therefore sober, and watch to prayer.

¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God stays for ever.
