1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report of Jesus,
2 and he said to his boys, This is John the immerser. He has risen from the dead, and because of this the powers work in him.
3 For Herod having arrested John, bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.
4 For John said to him, It is not permitted for thee to have her.
5 And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the multitude because they held him as a prophet.
6 But Herod's birthday being brought, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.
7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.
8 And she, having been put forward by her mother, says, Give me here on a platter the head of John the immerser.
9 And he became sad, but because of the oaths, and of those dining together, the king commanded it to be given.
10 And having sent, he beheaded John in the prison.
11 And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the maiden, and she brought it to her mother.
12 And after coming, his disciples took up the body and buried it, and having gone, they informed Jesus.
13 Now when Jesus heard it, he departed from there in a boat into a desolate place in private. And when the multitudes heard of it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 And having come forth, Jesus saw a great multitude, and he felt compassion toward them, and healed the feeble of them.
15 And having become evening, his disciples came to him, saying, The place is desolate, and the hour is now past. Send the multitudes away, so that having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.
16 But Jesus said to them, They have no need to depart. Give ye them to eat.
17 And they say to him, We have not here, except five loaves and two fishes.
18 But he said, Bring them here to me.
19 And after commanding the multitudes to sit down on the grass, having taken the five loaves, and the two fishes, having looking up to heaven, he blessed. And having broken them in pieces, he gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
20 And they all ate, and were filled. And they took up that which remained of the fragments, twelve baskets full.
21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 And straightaway Jesus compelled the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, until he would dismiss the multitudes.
23 And having dismissed the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain in private to pray. And having become evening, he was there alone.
24 But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, being buffeted by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking upon the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost, and they cried out from fear.
27 But straightaway Jesus spoke to them, saying, Cheer up. It is I, fear not.
28 And having answered him, Peter said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come to thee on the waters.
29 And he said, Come. And having come down from the boat, Peter walked upon the water to go to Jesus.
30 But seeing the boisterous wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And straightaway having stretched forth his hand, Jesus took hold of him, and says to him, O thou of little faith, why did thou doubt?
32 And when they entered into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 And those who came in the boat worshiped him, saying, Thou really are the Son of God.
34 And when they crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 And when they recognized him, the men of that place sent into that whole region round about, and brought to him all those faring badly.
36 And they besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment. And as many as touched were healed.

9 For when the people were numbered, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead there.
10 And the congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
11 And this is the thing that ye shall do: Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that has lain by man.
12 And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known man by lying with him, and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
13 And the whole congregation sent and spoke to the sons of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.
14 And Benjamin returned at that time, and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead. And even so they were not sufficient for them.
15 And the people regretted for Benjamin, because LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
16 Then the elders of the congregation said, What shall we do for wives for those who remain, since the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?
17 And they said, There must be an inheritance for those who are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not blotted out from Israel.
18 However we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the sons of Israel had sworn, saying, Cursed be he who gives a wife to Benjamin.

21 and watch. And, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch for you every man his wife from the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
22 And it shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, Grant them graciously to us, because we took not for each man of them his wife in battle, neither did ye give them to them, else ye would now be guilty.

41 Therefore Saul said to LORD, the God of Israel, Show the right. And Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, but the people escaped.
42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did certainly taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand. And, lo, I must die.
44 And Saul said, God do so and more also, for thou shall surely die, Jonathan.
45 And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far from it. As LORD lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he did not die.

36 And thou shall make a plate of pure gold, and engrave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLY TO JEHOVAH.
37 And thou shall put it on a lace of blue, and it shall be upon the miter. It shall be upon the forefront of the miter.
38 And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead. And Aaron shall bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the sons of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts. And it shall always be upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before LORD.
39 And thou shall weave the tunic in checker work of fine linen. And thou shall make a miter of fine linen. And thou shall make a sash, the work of the embroiderer.
40 And for Aaron's sons thou shall make tunics. And thou shall make for them sashes, and head-coverings thou shall make for them, for glory and for beauty.
41 And thou shall put them upon Aaron thy brother, and upon his sons with him, and shall anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister to me in the priest's office.
42 And thou shall make for them linen breeches to cover the flesh of their nakedness, from the loins even to the thighs they shall reach.
43 And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they go in to the tent of meeting, or when they come near to the altar to minister in the holy place, that they not bear iniquity, and die. It shall be a statute forever to him and to his seed after him.

38 Speak to the sons of Israel, and bid them that they make for them hems in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the hem of each border a cord of blue.
39 And it shall be to you for a hem, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of LORD, and do them, and that ye not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to play the harlot,

9 if we are examined today about a good deed, of a feeble man, by what this man has been healed,

14 And seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to contradict.
15 But after commanding them to go outside of the council, they conferred among each other,
16 saying, What will we do to these men? For that indeed a notable sign has happened by them, is apparent to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
