⁴ And I gave to Isaac, Jacob and Esau. And I gave to Esau mount Seir to possess it. And Jacob and his sons went down into Egypt.

²⁴ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. ²⁵ And the first came forth red all over like a hairy garment, and they called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after that his brother came forth, and his hand had hold on Esau's heel, and his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.

⁸ And Esau dwelt in mount Seir. Esau is Edom.

¹ And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. ² And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here I am. ³ And he said, I am God, the God of thy father. Fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will there make of thee a great nation. ⁴ I will go down with thee into Egypt, and I will also surely bring thee up again, and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes. ⁵ And Jacob rose up from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. ⁶ And they took up their goods, and all their property, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, they came into the land of Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him: ⁷ the sons, and the sons of his sons with him, his daughters, and the daughters of his daughters. And he brought all his seed into Egypt.

⁵ Do not contend with them, for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on, because I have given mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

²³ Israel also came into Egypt, and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.

¹⁵ And Jacob went down into Egypt, and he perished, he and our fathers.
