⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴ Then I said, Surely these are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of LORD, nor the law of their God. ⁵ I will go to the great men, and will speak to them, for they know the way of LORD, and the law of their God. But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

²⁵ Jesus having responded at that time, said, I extol thee, O Father, Lord of the heaven and the earth, because thou hid these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to the childlike.

²⁶ And lo, he speaks in public, and they say nothing to him. Perhaps the rulers really know that this really is the Christ?

⁵⁰ Nicodemus says to them (he who came to him by night, being one of them),

⁴² Yet, nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess, so that they would not become excommunicated from the synagogue,

⁷ And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a large company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

²⁰ Where is a wise man? Where is a scholar? Where is a researcher of this age? Did not God make foolish the wisdom of this world?

²² And because Jews demand a sign and Greeks search for wisdom, ²³ but we proclaim Christ crucified, it is truly to Jews a stumbling-block and to Gentiles foolishness. ²⁴ But to them, to the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weak thing of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For notice your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to flesh, not many powerful, not many eminent. ²⁷ But God chose the foolish things of the world, so that he might humiliate the wise, and God chose the weak things of the world, so that he might humiliate the powerful. ²⁸ And God chose the common things of the world, and the disdained things, and the things that are not, so that he might make useless the things that are,

⁸ which none of the rulers of this age have known. For if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
