¹ As the hart pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after thee, O God.

¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herbage for the service of man, that he may bring forth food out of the earth,

⁶ And the wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail because there is no herbage.

¹⁸ How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because they have no pasture, yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. ¹⁹ O LORD, to thee do I cry. For the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field. ²⁰ Yea, the beasts of the field pant to thee, for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
