¹¹ And ye came near and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

¹⁶ And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of an exceedingly loud trumpet. And all the people who were in the camp trembled. ¹⁷ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stood at the lower part of the mount. ¹⁸ And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because LORD descended upon it in fire, and the smoke of it ascended as the smoke of a furnace. And the whole mount quaked greatly.

¹⁸ And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. And when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off. ¹⁹ And they said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear, but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

²³ And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, that ye came near to me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders.

¹⁸ For ye have not come to a mountain being felt, and which burned with fire, and to darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, ¹⁹ and a sound of a trumpet, and a voice of words, of which those who heard begged that a word not be added to them.
