¹² Go and speak to David, Thus says LORD, I offer thee three things. Choose thee one of them, that I may do it to thee.

⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity,

⁴³ The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

⁹ Why have thou despised the word of LORD, to do that which is evil in his sight? Thou have smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be thy wife, and have slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house, because thou have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

¹⁴ However, because by this deed thou have given great occasion to the enemies of LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born to thee shall surely die.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise thou the chastening of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he injures, and binds up. He wounds, and his hands make whole.

¹² For whom LORD loves he reproves, and he whips every son whom he receives.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves he chastens. And he whips every son whom he receives. ⁷ Because of chastening ye endure; God is treating you as with sons, for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? ⁸ And if ye are without chastening, of which all have become participants, then ye are bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Besides, we indeed have had chastisers-the fathers of our flesh-and we were turned around. Shall we not much more be subordinate to the Father of the spirits, and we will live? ¹⁰ For those men indeed for a few days chastened us according to that which seemed good to them, but he for that which is advantageous, in order to be partakers of his holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.
